hi MTK probly a mistake from j o'brien, he reads this and will probly confirm
Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2005-09-26 11:22:51
The aim was to make this an A-class show with Full Thai Rules over 5x3mins, so hopefully all most will be in that format. The only matchup that isn't under FTR is Johnathon Dick Vs. Colin Morton, which will be modified rules over 5x2mins rounds. There have been a few changes of the line-up for this, which is getting rearranged just now, so there should hopefully be a few additions soon.

MTK - John O'Brien told me that it was a typing mistake from which he “humbly apologises”, your fight is FTR over 5x3mins, so you can look forward to that extra air in between rounds! Good luck with the training!

Thailion – I’m not sure if Dave Edwards had retired from fighting, but if that’s correct, I’m assuming he has reconsidered as his flights are booked to come up for the show.

As far as the female fight, I am not sure what rules they will be fighting under, but if I find out the details I will let you know.

Dave fought Full contact on my show 3 weeks ago..Don't think he's ever retired, just gone a bit quite. I spoke to him weeks ago and he mentioned this fight in Scotland. He was meant to fight Thai rules this coming sat in stevenage but that fell through.

Best of luck to him.

Dave has now seemingly the time to train properly for his fights where maybe in the past his training has been hampered for what ever reasons. Aso he's seemingly took alot of fights very short notice, and against heavier opponents.

So now that he's got a chance to train properly for future fights it should be good to watch, also interesting viewing for myself as I am matched with him for November 12th....Yeee Ha

No! I haven't seen Mykey Price, Conor O,Reagan or Daniel Brisset fight, so can't really comment. As for the rest, most are really close matches and could go either way.

I think that Robert Weir will win, sorry Dave but I think Robert will be too strong for you, also I would expect Graeme Ness too win (the form MTK is in just now I can't see him losing),Guy Ramsay V Rab Burt is way too close to call but I think that could be fight of the night. John Dick V Colin Morton I expect John to rise to the challenge (as he tends to do) and take home the belt (either by winning it or pinching later on when no one's looking) lol.

Rung is a Thai who now lives in Inverness (Yeah I know from Thailand to Sheepland - what was he thinking!!...lol) I think he's fought many times in the top Thai stadiums in both Western & Thai Boxing. Not sure exactley though so I aint going to stick my neck out - maybe someone who knows of him more will answer you better. Stevie Nisbett had him do a Seminar, so he should know a wee bout about him.

Stevie, has Rung moved here for good now? He told me he was basically back and forward, here for 6 months then in Thailand for 6 months.

Yeah Liam, I think it will be a tough fight for Ian, but It'll be close! Without being disrespectful to him, Rung's best days are gone, but he is still quick and sharp! He isn't giving away much weight away either, he normally sits about 62-63kg and told me he was fighting in Thailand recently against a foreigner at 70kg. I reackon it might come down to how Ian copes with coming down to that weight as he looks a good bit bigger (could be wrong though). I wonder if Rung will see and block Ian's spinning hook kick!

Yoda, I agree about Rab and Guy's fight, I think it is shaped up to be the highlight of the night! I haven't seen Guy fighting for years, so its hard to imagine how he will perform, but he will have to be good and shake of the ring rust fast to take the title from Rab! I think Daniel B will have his hands full with Graeme. I was really impressed with him during his fight with Stephen and he had improved so much since the last time I seen him fight! I think he'll be flying up the Brittish Bantamweight Rankings! Have you seen Dave Edwards fight Yoda, I thought I had seen him but i have confused him with someone else! As for John and Colin's fight, I'm obviously hoping Colin comes home with the belt, but I think it again is a close one!
Muaythai King
Posted: 2005-09-29 17:16:48
I wouldn't write Dave Edwards off too quickly.

As the majority of the fights are Full Rules then anything can happen. All it can take is one of those little elbows and the fight is finished!

Should be a good show!
Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2005-09-29 17:42:45
I take it you have seen Dave fight then Graeme, any inside info on his style or main weapons for us?

Spot on, FTR changes everything and makes it so much harder to predict, as even people that don't normally have a dig, suddenly have stopping power with elbows! I'm so jealous, I wish I could get some of the elbow fum and games!

Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2005-09-30 03:43:18
Brian they don't have electricity up in Inverness never mind internet access! LOL

Its not exactly a secret, every time I've seen him fight he has thrown some quick spinning kicks. If you were fighting Ian then you would be expect a spinning hook or back kick to be thrown at some point, but chances are it will still land, as it is a peach!

MTK, sorry to put more pressure on you mate but you know me I have huge problems trying to keep my opinions to myself. Gary:
No I haven't seen Dave fight before. Will do though on the 16th, and will be facing him on our gym's show, which is on NOVEMBER, 12th!

He's been around for a while, and has fought some good guys. Da Silva, Crooke, and also Damien Trainor I heard. He used to take alot of fights at short notice without having time to train properly for it but now he's seemingly got the time to get training 100%.

He's a southpaw that's about all I know.

Yoda:
I am hopeless at cards, I know how to play Snap and that's about it! It would be like taking sweets from a baby, and I'll tell you this mate, if you take my sweets there will be f*ck*n hell to pay!!.......lol ;-P

Looks like a top show,

I trained with Rung in Bangkok and really wish I could be there for this fight.

While Rung's no spring chicken, he puts 100% into both training and fighting. From what I've heard Ian is capable, so I'm sure this fight will be a cracker! Ian has a bit of a size advantage, but Rung's got a huge heart and is used to fighting bigger farang, so I'm sure the punters will get there moneys worth!

brilliant show, high drama and excitement throughout.

gotta mention a few, the gordon smith fight was real rocky stuff, micky price came out guns a blazing ,gave smith no end of trouble in the first and hammered him in the second, witha resouning 8 count the fight seemed in the bag , when his stamina went, smith turned the tables on on price and "rag dolled him" in the third, by this time price was dead on his feet and retired in his corner.

the greame ness danniel bisset was also briliant, full thai rules it waas nice and sedate in the beginning both giving and taking equally, thier was a grapple and ness seemed to slip and go down , he grabbed his nose and when he got up thier was a cut on the bridge and immediatte swelling, the first went to bissset. ness picked up in the second and managed to evade any punches or elbows to the nose to take the second round, then bammm right hook inthe early third and bisset goes down with his lights out.

rung v mucully, ian put in a briliant performance , probably one o the best i have seen and boy was he ready for it , buit rung was just too good in every dept and while ian certainly gave a superb account for himself , rung was just too good for him.

matt duncan v james doolan, last time i saw matt fight he was outstanding and went toe to toe hell for leather for the 5 rounds, he started of in the same fashion only to find james came for the same kind o fight, mid first round matt went down (hook i think) and stayed down, well doen to james

last was colin carson v dougie clarke, the fight was 1 sided in the favour of carson from the start during the first clarke went down clutching his ribs obviously winded and by a heroic effort made it back up and continued, he fought on reguardless of the barrage that was thrown at him up until, the second half of the third when ref kenny burnett stopped it, as tough and as determined as clarke was , he was taking a pounding. carson took the fight well , but i thik people will remember clarke for his sheer balls, he took the fight at 2 weeks notice against a much more experienced opponent, im sure hel be back and a lot better.

thier were a lot moer cracking fights but that was my personal highlights of the day.

well doen john , herr bob and everyone else for a cracking show,

stevie

A great day some great fights and a bumper crowd!! many thanks to everybody who helped make it a special show as I type this Rung is still in the Normandy bar downing beers a plenty and teaching the bar staff to dance.

Got to echo Gary`s comments about Dave Edwards, an absolute gem of a guy, not many fighters take time to thank the crowd and promoters for letting them fight. Dave if your reading this book yourself another flight and come up and sample a Scottish winter and all the beers are on me.

Big shout to Robert Weir who actually got to fight somebody his own weight and put up a fine composed performance.

Rung will probably be there when we go back for the next show! John, I notice your not offering to pay for Rung's drink, you'd need a 2nd Mortgage!

To be fair to Rab, Dave at 54kg was still heavy for our little midget, who walks around about 52, I reckon he could actually cut to under 50, I would love to see him fight someone around 50-52kg!

The cut nose incident was the result of me falling against the ropes in the clinch and Daniel falling in to - it was just unlucky that he caught me with his head on the beak as we fell......Shit happens.

Well done to all the fighters, once again the bar has been raised by Scottish Muay Thai.
Big respect goes to Colin STBA Morton, a very skilful and talented fighter with a huge future ahead of him. You’ve won the respect of everyone at the GTBA and we’re looking forward to supporting you in your future fights. MTK, your fight has to be a strong contender for knock out of the year, spectacular!
John Dick, once again you’ve made me and everyone connected with the GTBA immensely proud, John O’Brien I am ashamed of you for being associated with Scotland’s answer to Simon Cowel, Stevie Nisbit.

Yep really good show! I was actually quite dissapointed at the amount of knock outs! Most of them were surprisingly equal fights, but then a lucky punch lands and bam it's over before it began. I wish some had got to go the distance as they would have been brilliant to see! However it was really good anyway!
Another great show from the S.T.B.A...well done guys! :)

No problem corkmuaythai, conor seemed like a top guy and i really enjoyed the fight, obviously i wish it hadnt ended how and when it did because i felt it was turning out to be a good fight, but i know these things happen and it s just the nature of the sport. Tell him i said good luck for any fights coming up and you never know, maybe we can get a rematch sometime in the future.
