Anyone on the Ticketmaster mailing list will know that tickets are on sale as of today and the event is reserved seating, so if you want to get a seat at the front, get in there quick. I also have an initial lot of around 1,200 tickets so any fighter or instructor needing some please get in touch. Tickets can obviously be bought from us directly, local fighters or instructors or any ticketmaster outlet or on:

http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/event/1F003D96A2B95421?artistid=953077&majorcatid=10004&minorcatid=102.

If you are looking for Ringside or VIP Ringside with full corporate hospitality, please contact me directly, as you cannot purchase these tickets from ticketmaster.

It is only just been created and we have left out most of the content till we were ready to announce it, but will be fully up and running soon.

I’d just like to thank everyone that has helped John and I over the last few months with organising this event, I’m sure it will be a great success!

Also before anyone points out that Michael and Craig are fighting in Febuary, we are aware of this and are preparred to take a risk to get both guys on, they are hardy fighters and I'm sure it won't be a problem. Nico fought a few weeks before the last tournament and came through to win it!

Pisand, your just showing off as you know I'm struggling to get my basic text and images up! See you soon indeed mate, 8 weeks and counting!

well done getting Jose and Dicks up!i know anything can happen in a tournament depending on the draw and injuries but of the ones i ve seen Dicks is the best by a mile (in my opinion)!!
Good luck whoever gets him first.

Thanks Dave, hopefully finalising MMA this week, I'll give you a shout if I've any still unmatched.

Yeah Davy, really pleased with the final line up! I think it's a hard one to predict a winner, I'm expecting and hoping for a lot of conflicting predictions! I think the UK Ax'ers will go for the home fighters, but International fighters are also a good shout!

The last draw was made live on BBC Radio Scotland the day before POS 1, this time we'll either do the same or do it on the day at, at the start of the event!

...CELTIC. LOL. Just remind me which bars are Rangers' bars when we're over.

This will be a fantastic show and I hope it sells out. The 8-man alone is a gift for fans!!!!

dicks to win...only person could see possibly troubling him is craig jose. Kulebin and Duricca best get on the weights cos durica fights at 63 and Kulebin can make 61.5 they are both good but not big enough to win 3x in one night at that weight...........Good luck beagley and Deano aswell.

agee with you about Jose Liam, he is definately the other one to watch in the tournament.
Is it the same as last time Gary with no elbows until the final?
Gary D
Posted: 2007-01-07 07:08:37
what a line up! can't wait

Michael dicks - fantastic fighter ( is this his first tournament does anyone know)

Craig jose - never actually seen him fight but heard he's tough as nails.

Lloyd Cochran - was in the tournament last year and knows what he needs to do was unlucky not to get to the final with a clash of heads stopping the fight excellent work rate and can cause an upset.

Stevie Meikle - Stevie keeps improving all the time and again has a really good work rate which i think is gonnay help him.

Alex Sneddon - Don't think many people outside of scotland have seen him fight, brilliant fighter and i think he can go far.

Don'y know anything about the other guys but should be a fantastic tournament?

A Class
Rung (Thailand / Scotland) Vs. Richard Cadden (Bad Company - England) 63.5kg
Can't pic a winner

John Dick (GTBA - Scotland) Vs. Dean James (Pra Chao Suua - England) 57kg
Big step up for john never seen james fight so i'm lookin forward to this 1

Hilary Mack (Caledonian - Scotland) Vs. Jennifer Martinez (France) [No Elbows] 53kg

B Class
Rab Burt (Base - Scotland) Vs. Gürkan Yalcin (Belgium) 70kg
Can't wait to see big rab back, good luck!

John Douglas (NKT - Scotland ) Vs. Levon Akopian (Team HTK - Belgium) 67kg
Obviously backing john on this one big oppertunity to show what he can do and big thanks to gaz for getting an opponentover from belgium.

John Cullen (NKT - Scotland) Vs. Marc De Luca (USA - Sit Kangmongkorn) 63.5kg
never seen marc fight but will be gd to see a fighter from the u.s over, backing john tho, i think john has come along way since he first started and hopefully he can keep it up.

WOW! Great line up for the 8-man.
I thought Craig Jose moved up to 70kgs, so I reckon he will have a height and weight advantage.
Durica has just vacated his 61kgs world title, but he can still make 63.5, so I dare say he will wlak around at at least 65/67kgs anyway. When I saw him in Thailand this year he looked very stocky, but will be a little shorter than the others....would be a good match between durica and kulebin after not meeting in the I-1 Tournamnet in Hong Kong.
I think Dicks will be of average height and build for this tournament, however his aggressive style will be a force to be reckoned with...I think the 3-round/tournament style will suit him.

I havent really seen enough of the scottish guys to make an assessment.

I am really looking forward to my re-match with Rung after the close fight we had in June last year....

Let the games begin! :)
DaveA
Posted: 2007-01-07 08:31:11
Really looking forward to this - it works for me on so many levels!
After watching Noi and Rung last year I think you should have the beating ofd him this time Rich, with a little more preparation time to make the weight... but then I guess Rung will have had more preparation time too given that! Gonna be one helluva fight

Really looking forward to seeing Rudy Durica fight too. I shared digs with him in BKK a couple of years back, just after he'd won his world title (I think) in Hong Kong. Top bloke and if his skin colour was a little different he could pass for a thai in the ring. Still gonna be hard to call a winner for the eight man... but Rudy has had quite a lot of experience with the format in I1... Gonna be interesting.

Rich, you got mail mate

this is gonna be a great show. cant wait.

i think:

dicks is gonna win it, the guy is a machine walks through anything, none stop work. does depend alot on the luck of the draw though but does dicks actually ever feel pain? i dont think so and if he does he covers it up well with his ruthless aggression lol.

Cadden to beat rung on points, cant see cadden losing this one to be honest especially after rung beat him in leeds, which i hear was a good fight. what weight did they fight at last time? is this a day before weighin? big factor!

John dick will be too strong for james, looking forward to seeing james in action as heard good things about him so far. john has been improving fight by fight and seems very confident at the moment, he has a high work rate. should be interesting. is dean going up in weight as he seems to be fight at 57-58ish recently?

Cant wait to see Rab back in doin his thing. good luck to all

Michael Dicks all the way, the guy is one mean hombre. Total aggresion all the way. If not then I'd like Sneddon to win. Hope Meikle goes a long way too.

I think Dean James will win.
I hope Rab Burt, and John Cullen both win.

As for Rung V Cadden, I think Rich will take it this time.

The British fighters will all have a bit of an advantage in terms of size, as 67kg would be the top end of the scale for Andrei, Rudolf and Somphot, but their fight experience is about the same as all the British fighters combined! I’ve seen some footage of Somphot and he’s had about 180 fights and I’ve been told from a few people that when he’s training he’s a decent fighter, so you wouldn’t count him out. Andrei and Rudolf also have a silly amount fight experience and obviously they are used to the tournament format and will be tough opponents. The also have a bit of history, which will add to the mix hopefully! These tournaments are all about the luck of the draw IMO, which is why they are exciting to watch and I hope I get a chance to take in some of the action as it will be great to see all of these guys in the ring! Craig Jose does usually fight around 70, but said he’ll make 67kg of which I have no doubt. Will also be great to see Alex Sneddon fighting in Scotland again, many people won’t have seen him fight in the flesh, yet I’d bet all have heard of his reputation, that alone will make it brilliant!

Davy, yeah the 8to1 is the same format as last time with elbows only allowed in the final. I personally would prefer elbows throughout as a spectator, but it could wreck the tournament at the end of the day. I also think that with the danger of going out on cuts early reduced, it will mean that the better fighters will go through and win the £3,000.

Noi, the arena can hold a full capacity of 5,200, but we have capped it at 3,200, as we have had to submit our plans already. We’re hoping for a crowd around 3,000 and with the reserved seating, every seat will be filled and should create an amazing atmosphere. I heard your first fight with Rung was great, so really looking forward to having the rematch on our show.

Deano could fight much lower than 57, but has also fought a lot higher to get experience. The weigh-in for Deano and John plus another two of the domestic fights will be on the day though, all other fights will be as Noi said, between 6pm-8pm the night before.

Jabber, Dave and Rave aren’t on board yet, but no doubt they’ll want in on the action! Saying that, if they are on board it’ll just give me a problem trying to figure out who is who! LOL!
Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2007-01-07 13:32:30
Thanks Duncan! Stop showing off though, thats what I was trying to do when I started the other thread, you'll need to show me how mate.

Forgot to say, all the tickets I’ll be giving out to fighters will be adult only, as with the reserved seating you obviously have to know any junior tickets you want in advance. The best option if you have any family’s coming would be to send them to the box office. I will be making a block booking of family tickets at the end of January, so if anyone wants seats in this family section let me know.

8 man tourney / 5 star lineup / £500 on Michael Dicks to win. I reckon Mr Sneddon will be pushing hard for a place in the final, and I would love to see him there.

Having said all that, there is of course Stevie Meikle. This guy seems to have ice water running through his veins. If he has a nervous system at all then he seems to leave it wrapped up in his kit bag and locked away in the dressing room. The guy is every fighters worst nightmare ..... An intelligent thug!

Cullen v De Luca, John Cullen is turning into one of the slickest fighters in Scotland. I think he has the repertoir and desire to win. De Luca is, however, not to be underestimated. A quick learner, as we saw a couple of years ago in Motherwell.

Dick v James. I cant honestly call this one but its got class written all over it.

Big good luck to Hilary Mack. If this show was a trifle, then she would be the cream.

Noi, its an afternoon show, kicking off at 2pm, but with the amount of fights we have it'll finish on the following Wednesday! I'd expect you'll be on around 6pm if that helps, we can shuffle your fight about if it helps any? If you are looking for hotels and know the numbers then let me know as we can get a deal as we're booking so many rooms.

Yeah Noi, I've seen a few references to his record sitting around 70, but on this Belarussian website -
http://www.kingsofmuaythai.com/index_en/rating_en.php
it says 112 fights and 102 wins, either way, still a lot. Rudolf isn't far off, around 90 fights as far as I'm aware. Here is a couple of links to some video footage of the foreign fighters to give everyone a little idea of what to expect:

Andrei with a nice finish over Benny Ritter in the last I-1 in Hong Kong but dodgy footage:

Rudolf highlight video with his usually aggressive style:

Thats right Noi, I think it was kicks that done the damage. As far as I'm aware, he was a decent stadium fighter, but has been fighting abroad and in Pattaya mostly in recent years. I'm not sure about titles or ranking, but his basic stats are:

Date of Birth: 03-10-1979
Weight: 63-68 kg / 139 - 150 lbs
Height: 174 cm / 5,7 ft
Fights: 200
Win: 160 (80 k.o.)

i just watched the somphot fight against nico, now it might just be me but was that a home town win or what? anyway somphot looks good but like thaisoon im gonna go for dicks, his tough walk forward through anything style will go in his favour. reckon rungvcadden 2 will be a good one as they both will have trained properly for it and be on weight correct. im gonna go for dean against jon dick even though biased. going to be a great day/ night. see you all there.

Posted: 2007-01-11 04:04:30
I think Mike Dicks is favourite too (plus he's a fellow Darlo lad)...strong aggresive walk-forward fighter who would be hard to beat/slow down over 3 rounds - only downside is the possibility of picking up knocks going through the rounds towards the final with his style - and not allowing the elbow will take away a big part of his game - but then i guess its the same for everyone !!

These tournaments often throw up a surprise winner !

im not sure if walk through is a good game plan for 3 fights in a night but i reckon all the bashings he has walked through at 67-69kg will prob have conditioned him to take a good few shots from boxers usually 60-3 gonna be good

Hi Stewart, there are still loads of tickets left, they only went on sale last Sat and I think we'll get close to the capacity, but expect there will be some tickets left on the day as well. However, it is reserved seating, so the sooner you book tickets the closer to the action you'll be.

I've got one half of the areana tickets just now and I am distributing them as we speak, the other half of the Arena is on the ticketmaster system until I need the next batch. If any fighter or their representative needs tickets please let me know asap.

We've sorted out the MMA fights thanks to Paul McVeigh, so should be able to get them on the website at the weekend along with a few good domestic fights.

BTW paulinthailand, thanks for reminding me that its only 7 weeks, as if I wasn't stressed as it is! LOL

The full lineup is nearly there, most are all matched, just waiting on final confirmation on the domestic and MMA before we put them on the web. No changes to the fights announced so far.

Also trying to match a lad, Ritchie Hocking, he's 71kg (on the day) and 15yrs old and his record is 1W, 3L, but he's better than his record suggests. He has fought an adult non-padded at the Bad Co show in Dec, so happy to fight whatever rules if we can get someone reasonably close to his age. If anybody has any fighter or have any suggestions, please get in touch.

Job Vacancy: Co-promotor wanted!

Just to let everyone know that I will be looking for a replacement for John O’Brien to help promote POS. As you know John appeared on X-factor and as a result has been offered a job as a Kelis lookalike as of immediate affect. Although this is a big blow to Muay Thai in Scotland, the good news is that he will be performing the Milkshake at POS2 and the afterparty. We wish john all the best and can’t wait for performances!

Keepyerguardup, we've already started to contact the reserved list and got a full block on hold and we will be in touch with everyone this week to finalise them.

Sorry for the hold up on the lineup, don't want to post before everything is finalised and aware, nothing worse than finding out on the net.

Gary GTBA, do you not remember the ones on the POS1 thread, I thought they were worse, particularly the one I put up off John and Yoda in drag! I think Yoda must have been drunk that night, as he took about a week to realise it was him!

Raj mate, sort that picture out, what kind off Scotsman where's a thigh level kilt, your bro and dad look perfect as well! I was going to doctor it for you, until I went to save the image and you've got it saved under skirt! LOL.

I sent Webdunk the lineup as is, so should be up soon. Hoping to also add Ed the Jinja Ninja (aka Andrew Henderson) to the lineup around the 66-67kg.

I like the Lumpini style one like last year. A real Beauty. The colours were very well chosen. It is such a pritty thing that when I feel tired and look at it at the gym, I get all worked up and train like hell ;)So I would go with the lumpini style, all the way.

Btw, congratulations O'Brians, the line up is once again a cracker.

I am especially curious about the tournament (somphot, Duriga and Kulebin and as I heard also Dicks) will spice things up a bit.

Also the fight between Rung and our good friend NOI66666 is a very good match up. I wonder what will happen this time. Best luck to both of them as both are very good and nice fellows. How are you feeling Noi6666? Everything going well?

Next to that, I hope that all the Belgian fighters will show what they can. We have send some very good upcomming fighters.

Cheers Nico.
I am doing well and looking forward to the bout.
I am feeling good and getting some fantastic training in with our thai trainer.

Speaking to Dean White the other day and apparently Somphot has fought upto 69kgs and is a very strong puncher, so this should make for some interesting match ups.

Not long now guys!

John just told me that Muay Thai in Scotland has just recieved another unexpected boost as Lloyd Cochran has made it through to the final shortlist for Renfrewshire sport personality of the year award. The award ceremony will be held on February 17th and we wish Lloyd the best of luck type of events are important to having Muay Thai accepted as a mainstream sport if Lloyd wins he will become the second Muay Thai fighter to recieve this award, joining Ed the JinJa Ninja who was the first ever recipient of this award from the sport of Muay Thai.

wot a lineup for wot looks like a good show.a lot of good scottish and foreign fighters.wouldn't want to bet on who would win each fight.
but here are some predictions and i know some folk won't agree.
i reckon alex sneddon will get to the final of the 8 man tournament.
rung to beat richard caddon.
rab burt to get beat. john d to win.
marc de luca to win. and paul mcviegh to win his mma fight.
for some to fight andrew henderson from a scottish point of view gordon ross or alan jamieson would be good oppenents.
have any of these 2 fought sinse the last braehead show?

Thanks for the interest Botha, but I'm afraid our lineup is pretty much sorted now and the budget is blown for our foreign fighters as it is, as only about 60% of the fighters on the show are Scot's and the lineup is massive.

dlhbadboy, Alan and Gordon haven't fought since POS1, although Alan was meant to fight Stavie Meikle for the STBA title in October, but got decked by one of his cow's the day before! We were hoping to get him on the show, but he is off to Oz travelling for a bit and wouldn't be ready for the event. I'm surprised more Scot's haven't backed Alex to be in the final, I thought he would have got quite a few peoples bets.

As much as i think Rung is a top fella and very humble also , i can not see him beating Richard esp with proper training and not having to kill himself on diet, as i understand is wot happened the first time round .... dont get me wrong Rung is very tough and weathered some cracking kicks from mike and yes he caught mike flush on the button (it can happen to anyone ) but in my opinion it wouldnt have gone past the 3rd round if he hadnt have caught him ... Rung was the first to admit his legs were mullered and didnt know how much longer he would have lasted ..So again as much as Rung is a top fella my money is on Mr Caddon ........ but yes it would be so much easier if bettin was like thailand .

I've had the pleasure of watching him a few times now and he is one tough tough wee guy :) admittedly i've only seen Richard fight once in manchester at Master Skens show when he fought the belerussian fighter ( apologies if thats not correct - geography not one of ma strong points lol ) A good point that alot of people are making is that both fighters will have time to prepare for this one hence my backing for Rung.

We'll hopefully be updating the lineup at the weekend, got a few little changes and additions, looking good though!

I'm looking forward to the Rung V Cadden fight, heard the first one was good and also that both feel they'll be better this time, so should be cracking.

Gary D, it would be great to if there was betting like in Thailand, the atmosphere is amazing, you'd need to get working on your hand signals though!

Rung, if your reading this, can you get in touch and let us know when your back from Thailand, as we've got a bit of media interest in you and need to arrange photoshoots if possible.
Gary O'Brien STBA

Liam the draw was made live on BBC Radio Scotland last year the day before the event. We're trying to get some media interest again, so not exactly sure when it'll be made. Either on the day or the day of the weigh-in.

Had a few people emailing about Ringside tickets, there are still some available, but they are not available through ticketmaster as we need control of the floor and seating plan as we have to organise all the catering etc. So if anyone is looking for some Ringside or VIP, please contact us directly.

nice flyers for the show. how recent are the photos as i heard that rab didn't defend the title and gave it up and stevie miekle evenyually fought for it and won it.is this right or does meikle and rab hold different titles?
stevie nisbet
Posted: 2007-01-26 17:14:35
thats right, rab had retired and gave the title up, stevie was matched to fight alan jameson, alan had to pull out the day before the fight after being assulted in a work related rage attack so andrew obrien stepped in.

Hi Rung, I've told John you're back as he was arranging the Newspaper's and he'll contact you soon and see if we can arrange something.

dlhbadboy, a few of the photo's used are new, but most are ones I took last year, as to wait for everyone to send in photo's would have meant the would have been ready by April. There are a few fighters missing, but need to get them out.

Stevie, you forgot to add "by a demented coooo!"

There is now a rough layout of the venue with block letters on the website under Ticket Info if anyone needs to know where they are sitting. The front row is A and works its way back up and the numbers start on the left hand side if you are on the floor looking up.

Just to again mention there are Ringside and VIP tickets available even though they are not on the Ticketmaster system.

I am hoping to have the Full updated lineup tomorrow. Everyone is matched and just one or two waiting to finalise terms.

Just to update the fight card, all fights remain as they are on the website, except that:

Rab Burt (Base) fill now fight Paul Grant (Sit Ayuthaya) [72kg] and will now be A-class rules.

Greg Melville (Sor Taksin - Scotland) will fight Gürkan Yalcin (Belgium) [70kg] B-Class rules.

James Doolan (Dinky Ninja’s - Scotland) will fight Jamie Mckenzie (Freestyle Fighters - Scotland) 65.8kg

How could I forget, Andrew Henderson (NKT Paisley) will be fighting Tommy Young (Caledonian) [64kg] B-Class rules.

Really looking forward to this fight, should be a cracker! Will be great to see the Jinja Ninja back in the ring and Tommy is great to watch, I thought his fight with John Cullen was the best fight at POS1, so hopefully will be as good as it sounds on paper.

Rab Burt Vs Paul Grant [72kg] A-class rules. gonnay go with a burt win, paul's a top guy but i think rab is too experienced with alot of power

Gary O'Brien STBA

Yeah its a tough test for Paul, but remember Rab hasn't fought in 2 years so, might take a few rounds to get pack into it and its also the first time fighting Full Rules for both. It'll be good to see Rab in the ring again aswell.

I'm also looking forward to McAskill Vr. McTavish, both exciting, really quick and have nice styles. All the big names will be getting tha attention but I always like watching the lighter fights and I reckon it'll probably be one of the best individual fights.

I'll be getting a second allocation of tickets tomorrow, which will probably be our second last batch. Anybody that needs some of them let me know asap! We have 30,000 of the latest flyers, so will try and get them out over the next few days. Again, if you've not arranged for me to get you them then give me a shout.

No changes to the lineup yet, which is good news. The show has a packed lineup and will have to run like clockwork on the day and will kick off at 2 as planned, assuming no disasters again!

I've got a couple of images of the match ups which I'll put up now.

Just back to normal service today. Been laid up for a few days after a territorial dispute with a Ford Maverick. OK, the Maverick won, but seeing as the disputed area was a stretch of pavement, and I was on foot, I suspect that a combination of Mr Shiny Buttons and my lawyers will ensure that the dog-brained pustule driver will spend the rest of his worthless time on this planet in abject poverty.

The updated lineup looks damn good.

Greg Melville - Ooohhhh what a fighter, and a great prospect for the future considering hes just a young lad

Rab Burt coming out of retirement to fight Paul Grant. And its full rules!
This is a big one for young Paul. Huge test of his resilience, determination and maturity. This fight could really launch his career into the next level

Andrew Henderson V Tommy Young - I love watching both of these guys. Very different styles but they both give till it hurts. If it goes the distance it WILL be a corker
.
.
.
.
Anyway, to ask a question of the promoters please! (I asked this question of the relevant camp after POS1 and got no response at all)

What rule book will be used for both the normal MT fights, and for the 8Man tourney? WMC, WMF, or STBA?
I noticed that the continental fighters at POS1 had a tendancy to hook their opponents leg if they were being overpowered in the grapple. They appeared to be doing this to get the referee to break the grapple. AND MOST OF THE TIME IT WORKED!
OK, I accept that there are regional variations regarding rules. I read a great article by Tony Myers about Dutch MT coming from a mainly Kickboxing background and untrained Dutch judges applying KB rules to MT in error. But I think all fighters and referees should be clear on what rules apply before the event takes place.
Correct me if im wrong, but isnt hooking the leg classed as a spoiling tactic, and therefore a foul? Just like holding the ropes, or deliberately falling down if your opponent catches your kick?

Also, how will the rules on bandages and protective wear be modified (if at all) for the 8Man Comp?
I think all the rule books state that a single elastic bandage or anklet can be worn on each ankle. One of the POS1 competitors was clearly wearing 2 sets of anklets, with a huge lump of padding sandwiched between them on top of each foot

.
.
.
One last question!
Will there be another guest referee this year?
And if so, please tell me its not that cynical Git who appeared last year.
The way he behaved during the first MMA fight was scandalous.
Oh, and I usually dont like to get personal (doh, lying again, I know) but for a sport that tries very hard to advocate a healthy lifestyle, might I suggest that a big 'pie eatin', 'beer swillin' titty bar doorman, is probably not the way to go!
Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2007-02-01 12:59:24
Hi BLZbub, glad to hear the Mavrick didn't completly wipe the floor with you!

BTW, sorry I never noticed your first question.

The Muay Thai rules will be that of the STBA, which are almost identical to that of the WMC and the event is also sanctioned by the WMC. The great news is that Tony Myers will be the main Ref for the event, so issues like fouls and spoiling will I'm sure be picked up. All fighters will get a brief run through of the rules as they do at all events, wither the follow them is another matter.

As for anklets and the reg's on wraps, obviously rules are there for a reason, but I think a bit of common sense has to be used as well. Everyone wraps hands and knuckles significantly and its done to protect the boxer's hands. Hands aren't designed for punching, as I'm sure most pro fighters out there who have bust there hands will testify. Within reason, I think it is fair to allow the knuckles to be taped. As for anklets, I know what you mean and I'm sure Tony will be on top off any problem, I have no doubt! On the other hand, you often see double anklets worn in fights, I've also seen it in Thailand.

The only non-scot guest Ref will be Tony, saying that he is an honourary Scot!

I also think that was a bit unfair on the last Ref, alright some might have questioned his performance and he is a big lad, but I'm also pretty sure the big man can fight! LOL.

Damn it! I was going to make that quick as I'm just running our the door and I'm now late!

BTW Stevie, Ed asked me what we're going to call him now he ain't ginger! LOL.

Thanks for the reply Gary!

Somehow managed to curl sideways and mould myself to the shape of the front of the bloody big lump of a thing, so no broken bones from the collision. Just some hefty bruises on the thigh. What did the damage was being hurled through the shop window. Falling plate glass has no conscience! Another inch to the left and i'd be singing 'soprano' for the rest of my life.

I asked the question last year from the Belgian coach, as I assumed it was commonplace for them to fight that way.

Fantastic news that Tony Myers will be with us for the show. With all aspects of the Scottish MT scene making such huge leaps forward, I think its fitting that we bring the top man in the UK. It can only add more style, polish and credibility to our sport up here. Great for our own judges and referees to work along side Tony at the sharp end as well. They will all benefit from it im sure.

As for my remarks about last years guest ref. I understand and respect your conservative approach as a promoter. Thankfully, I am not burdened in that way, and take pleasure in speaking my mind where the notion takes me.

Yes, I agree, I'm sure the big man can fight! But I'll bet it's only ever on his own terms. I'll say again, "Big, pie eatin, beer swillin, titty bar doorman"
The kind of guy that the Gas Board send to your door when they're going to cut your supply off. Probably runs a small shady business doing 'questionable' PI work, and 'fixing' things. No doubt has some grubby business cards which say something like "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap".

You can tell I was impressed!

Ticket Info:

Just to make sure that all fighters and Rep’s know that they will get 10% commission on all ticket sales on top of their agreed purse.

All issued tickets have been Adult. If you have any Under-16’s wanting tickets, please retain the ticket and take the customers details. Then please return the tickets to me and I will take them to Ticketmaster to be re-classified. Sorry about the extra hassle, but it’s the only way to get advanced batch tickets with the reserved seating.

Tickets are starting to really move now, so anyone that is looking for more than 10 tickets please contact me asap, as I do not have many large blocks left to allocate.

Yes colin stba morton, the ref does indeed check the anklets prior to the start of the bout.

In fact the same ref (our friend from the titty bar) checked the same anklets, on the same ankles, on more than one occasion that day. So why were they allowed if they were in breach of the rules? (and after reading through the WMC rules, which Gary has said are almost identical to the STBA rules, I can confirm that one pair only are allowed, with no extra padding)

My point is that in a knock out tourney, where a fighter may progress to a second or third fight, injury and wear and tear are a major consideration, and a little extra protection could easily give the fighter an unfair edge.
I reckon all fighters should have exactly the same gear, applied in exactly the same way, and then the playing field would stay level (ish), and the only difference would be what the fighter brings to the ring in the way of skill / desire etc.

I also think that there should be a strict marshalling process in the dressing room, to enforce the rules. Sure it's nice to believe that we are all fair minded sports people, and just take these things on trust. But in reality, winning is winning, and if theres a prize, theres a potential cheat (I stress the word POTENTIAL). Lets be absolutely honest with ourselves here!

Heck, I've been on the receiving end of it myself. (not in the UK btw) Got knocked spark out in my first MT fight. Never been hit that hard in my life, it was like a hammer. And the guy just didnt have the build or the technique to hit that way naturally. I saw him ungloved a few minutes before the fight, and his wrapped hands looked like the talc counter at Boots. Naive and stupid I know but I said nothing at the time. Lesson learned!

Stevie i will bet with you £40 quid on the James dean fight and £40 on the Cadden vs Rung fight.

Cadden is lookin best ive seen him for a good while Rajasak has saved him a bit of ££ and a trip to thailand and is working with him on some wicked techniques and gameplans for the demise of Rung....which will be a shame cos hes a nice guy and a right laugh but i hope he gets decked. (even more so that he was wishing the guy im fighting luck and not me) :-)
Heard Rung has been back to Thailand to train for this. what gym is he at?

Ringname:TONGTCHAILEK
Real Name: SAKDINON THAEKRATOK
Thai Boxing 176 Times Win 129 Times ( 25 by KO )
Lose 40 Times
Draw 7 Times
Ranked N°2 Lumpini Stadium 2000

So, Gary did a great job indeed adding Thongtchailek to the tourny. Somphod Thotla withdraw from the tourny was bad news but adding Thongtchailek is just great and i think the other fighters will have to consider him as the man who could take the winning spot in the end.

But as i heard yesterday, Gary is coming with some more great news during the day so.. Stay on ax, do not go to work, do not eat, no sleep because some news will be in every moment now!!

Thats right Liam, Rudolf gave Thongtchailek a bad cut in the 3rd that made the Doc stop it, which to be honest I think adds to the mix, as a bit of history between the fighters could add to the draw.

I should be confirming the lineup today hopefully!

I know we are all having a laugh but as Liam R said earlier,Dean is treating this fight and his opponent with upmost respect,Dean realises he has had some sucess in his early fights but he understands as does everybody in our camp that he is still at the very early stage of what we all hope to be a bright career.Dean has only fought 7 times so far,no interclubs or am fights so we still class him as a fighter in the very early stages of learning.Dean has got to where he has so far by being willing to learn and training very very hard....the last thing he would ever want to do is come across as cocky or arrogant.
We view every fight we take on as a 50/50 chance of winning so thats why we train so hard and try to learn and improve for every fight.Just wanted to clear up that Dean and his team are taking this fight very very seriously.

wont be talking your bet liam , im not much of a gambler, no doubt dean and johns fight will be good, im going with my mate john dick and hoping he will win, hes worked hard and is a tidy wee fighter, he canme through 5 rounds on sunday without a scratch and i wish him well. as for rung V richard of course your gonna back your man, good luck to him, i like richard hes a nice guy, but this time rungs actually trained, and training bloody hard, hes just back from a month in thailand, i dont hope that richard gets "decked" i didnt enjoy it the last time when kotsur stoped him, im not much of a fan of KO's, but i do hope he gets beat.

As I said before, I think the Cadden V Rung match will also be a cracker, missed the first encounter, but think both believe they weren't at there best and have something to prove, so looking forward to it!

Liam

The only 'training' Rung had for the last fight was his daily 2 mile jog home from work unlike Cadden who had been training for the biggest fight of his life. Oh, and shall i also mention Cadden weighed in a good 3 kgs heavier than Rung so come on boys, enough of the excuses, Rung won fair and square. Lets let that be the end of it.

No excuses Louise.
We weighed the same on the day at 6pm before the bout at the town hall, but that became academic as I admit, I did not win that particular fight, with all three judges giving it 49:48.... It was close....

I respect Rungs fantastic wealth of experience(200+ fights), and I would be a fool to step in the ring with such an exponent and not prepare myself properly.

However, given the situation, it was not ideal for either of us, and I dare say it will be a very different fight this time.

Every single fight I have I train like its "the biggest fight of my life".....I always put in 100% and never under-estimate my opponent, just ask any of the guys I train with!

I understand that you will obviously be protective of your fella, I wouldnt expect anything less. Thats true love for ya! :)

As you know Thongtchailek has replaced Somphot, I think this is a great addition to the lineup and it’s also good that him and Rudolf have a bit of history. Kulebin had to pull out as he was supposed to be in London for a while, but his plans have changed and I understand that he will be going to Thailand for a bit, however, John Jarvis helped out again by securing another fighter from Kulebin's gym. Denis has a fight record of 87Fights, 76 Wins, 21 KO’s and usually fights around 65kg, so naturally a little heavier than Andrei and has a lot of experience.

I think these new changes will add to the mix and drama of the draw and really happy with the new lineup.

Posted: 2007-02-20 07:20:08
I had already put Tim on standby months ago and said if we had any home fighters pullout, he’d have first refusal, so I kept to my word on it. I understand the situation with Tim and other promoters isn’t good just now and understand why he is getting a hard time. I need to point out, that Tim not fighting on the other promotion had nothing to with us, we only approached Tim on Thurs/Friday last week (the week after he pulled out the fight with Michael Wakling). I have to admit that we had our concerns and I've spoken to some of the promoters/managers involved. It is not my place to comment on the other situations, but with only a couple of weeks to go we needed a good replacement. You’ve got to understand that tournaments are difficult to keep matched and to be fair, Tim and Jon have always been very professional with us, fighting on both of the shows I’ve promoted with John. Tim also really wanted to be involved and his involvement should add to the draw, with some good potential domestic fights.

The draw was done by BBC Radio Scotland last year the day before and Radio Scotland are also wanting to do more coverage of the event, as is Reporting Scotland on BBC 1, which will feature a 2min report after the event, so we might use the Radio angle for some pre-event publicity. We're also going over some options for doing it on the day at the start of the event, we'll let you know.

I’ve put them on hold for you now anyway. There really isn’t many more Ringside left, with a few tables getting taken up today, so let me know asap!

Saying that the Belarus doesn't look to be trifled with! They're generally pretty tough! Good luck to all! Don't over look the Slovakian ; )

What you should be saying is don't forget Dicks, he is the man, Belarus, Slovakian forget them, Dicks will dishevel all that is in his way.

I personaly think the tourny is very even because of weight/level/power. The more skilled expirienced fighter will have to cope with the weightdifference making the tourny very interesting indeed and could go every way possible. I think the fact that Round 1 & 2 will be without elbows is an addition to the difficulty to pick a winner. The final with elbows could turn things around very fast again like last year with Nico Verresen. Showing why elbows are dangerous weapons even if weight is against you. So let's see what to think or hope for a first fight to have to most excitment in there.

Cochran vs Jose would be nice as being an short time rematch. Things learned and see how this work out in a tourny.

Thongchailek vs Duriga should be nice to see the two fresh and ready to get in to a rematch long wanted bye Thongchailek. (Read Interview later today)

Dicks vs TNT Thomas should take the powerhouse fighters in a clash that would be very interesting to see.

Meikle vs Varaxa as being the fight i do know not so much about yet so those should give a nice one as homecrowd will get behind Meikle and Varaxa will be ready to show he's up to it and a more than good replacement for Kuleibin. But what i heard is that Varaxa is the works so will big nice to watch closely!!

As for who will win etc.. Don't count on me on any predictions.. I hope the people that come over with us will do great offcourse and win if possible but just hope that everybody can show their best and show great sportmanship and fantastic fights to a very nice crowd. (Packed Breahead Arena would be an extra boost for all the fighters so you Scottish, be there!!)

Michael dicks is the favourite to win but i honestly can't decide. most of them like to push forward and stay on top of ther opponents but anything can happen like last year i thot Lloyd would have made the final but he got cut with a clash of heads and the fight got stopped so you never know!
CageWarrior

Dicks v Thomas would be interesting to see because Dicks would destroy Thomas with ease.

Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2007-02-23 17:30:42
I've got your tickets aside for you Dougie!

Your right Guy, you need a bit of luck in the tourny and although size is a factor, nico showed last year that its not a dciding factor, he was far lighter than any of them!

You mean Cochran Vs. Thomas Guy? The last fight was quite close, but I thought Tim was quite comfortable and Lloyd wasn't himself, I'm sure it'll be different this time and would make a good fight over 3 rounds. I think all the domestic fights would be interesting! When doing the matchmaking I deliberatly chose fighter that tend not to take a backward step, at least stand their ground if not go forward constantly, and it'll be great to see how dominates the attacking position, I think this will be a key factor in most of the fights!

Good luck staying active Dave, keep in touch and we'll see what we can do, we'll hopefully be announcing our next show next week at the show, so watch this space, since your not coming! LOL
Gary O'Brien STBA
Posted: 2007-02-23 17:37:27
I think Craig Jose will surprise some folk, he is tough as boots and I think he's under-rated as a fighter and definitly has the size advantage! I think it'll be interesting how he deals with cutting that weight, but we'll find out when he gets in the ring!

Pisand, the weigh-in will be in the hotel from 6-8pm, same as last year.

There are a few people flying in around 7 & 8pm, so we will stay till everyone is weighed-in and we will also record the weigh-in as well as have the usual witnesses for anyone coming late.

I'll see you on Fri, Pisand! I think Guy is picking you up, if not I'll get you mate, but I'll catch up with you later anyway. Do you have any plans for your short? Rudolf is coming over on Wed, so I'm going to try and get some stuff for him to do, so you might want to tag along on Fri, if your not to tired etc.

Dicks has already beat Thomas before although it was a little while ago and both fighters have improved a lot since then. Thomas beat Cochran recently but i think Dicks will be too strong and i think he'll win the whole thing. Dont know anything about the thai fighter but you can never really right them off.
Good Luck Dean James aswell looking sharp!

Interview THONGCHAILEK

INTERVIEW

Source: www.superpro.be

February: THONGCHAILEK

1. Hi Thongchailek, is everything ok?
- Yes, despite the cold. I have to say Thailand is a bit warmer! (LoL)

2. Could you tell us a bit on your life here up until now?
- Life in Thailand is hard. Since I was a little boy there was thaiboxing in the family. I guess it’s easy to figure out why I went that way as well. I started at the age of 5 and my first fight was at 9. I have considered and planned a life outside of Thaiboxing, but I keep missing it and then I need to get back into that ring. I became n° 2 at the age of 27 in Thailand.

3. Did you have a lot fights in Europe?
- About 3 times. With nice memories. It’s kind of fun fighting here, different than Thailand!

4. Who were the European opponents?
- Well-known guys like Karim Saada, Tarik Benfik , Dida Diafat and Rudolf Duriga. I won from the first three, Dida was in Thailand but I lost from Duriga when he hit my forehead and it opened up.

5. Who do you look up to?
- Farid Villaume & Petrosian are my European favourites. In the boxing world THE legends are Mike Tyson, Marven Hagler and Sugar Ray Leonard!! Anuwat rocks in Thailand!

6. You travel to Scotland, 4 March, for the prestigious tournament POWER OF SCOTLAND 2 in Glasglow. A -67kg tournament with quite some good fighters in that class. Do you know your opponents?
- I only know Rudolf Duriga to tell the truth.

7. Didn’t you fight each other before? Duriga is one of the favourites to win the tournament.
- Yes, last year in Bratislava, in February.

8. How did the fight go?
- In round 1 and 2 it went glorious for me. But in round 3 I was too relaxed and Rudolph got me there! With an elbow blow to the head I was injured. The corner people cleaned it well, and stopped the bleeding, but the ref stopped the fight. Well, that’s thaibox I guess.!! lol

9. So you must be eager to fight Duriga in the tournament now, to set things straight?
- Yes of course, that would be great. Despite the fact we’ve been training together in Korat (TH), I’d really like to fight him again now!!

10. Message to your opponents on 4 March?
- May the best win!!

11. Maybe something for the crowd in Scotland as well?
- Everybody told me that the crowd in Scotland is great. Always warm and supporting with lots of respect for all the fighters. I’ll try to do my very best not to disappoint them!

LOL Pisand! The Limo is just for Mark, you're getting a taxi!

Thanks for that Guy, looking forward to seeing him in action!

Just to let everyone know that the weigh-in will be 6-9pm next Sat in the Holiday Inn at Glasgow Airport.

But more importantly, the aftershow party is going to be in the popular new(ish) club in Glasgow, Karbon. Anyone with a Fighter/Cornerman wristband, or a Ringside Wristband will get free entry. Anyone with a Standard Wristband will get Half Price entry. Hopefully we'll get a good turnout and has the makings of a good night!

The new K1 Max star Murat Direcki, who just smashed Albert Kraus will again be coming over for our show with the Superpro team. So the aftershow party would be a good opportunity to meet him and the big names on the show!

Had a few changes to the lineup in the last week.

Andy O'Brien stepping in for an injured Jinja Ninja. Mokhtar Daidi replacing his fellow Belgian Levon Akopian against John Douglas. Plus a change to the MMA fight with John Nicolson with him now being matched Paul Jenkins, which is attracting a fair bit of interest, with Paul having a ridiculous fight record of:

Total Fights: 89
Professional MMA Record: 33-29-5
Semi-Professional MMA Record: 2-3-1
Amateur MMA Record: 5-5-6

I'll post the running order just now!

Sorry Craig, Keiran walks about about 53kg, so he'll already be lighter, thats why we arranged it for on the day. However, it would be good for you to bring him along on Sat so we can get the medical over and done with.

We can do the medical on the day if its a problem, but it would be much easier to do it on Sat. We're going to the expense of arranging 2 doctors, so that we don't have delays between fights, as its a long show as it is! last year Ian broke his leg and obviously the Doc had to spend a lot of time with him. Hopefully this should result in a very smooth flow of fights!

Sorry to hear about Andrew Henderson having to call off. I was looking forward to seeing him back in the ring. Gritty gutsy lad. Hope to see him again soon.

Great news that Andrew O'Brien is replacing him. I honestly think that he is one of the most stylish fighters in Scotland, and Tommy has a similar approach. I reckon this will be one that will please the purists.

From guy at the griphouse - it's been a blast watching you guys, and 1 girl, train your hearts out over the last few months. its been worth mopping up the blood and sweat each and every time. So to paul, james, john nic, hil, stevie, tommy, and all your bruised and battered training partners, all the best for sunday, you have truly been an inspiration to me. BLZbub, yeah shame about the Ninja, he had put on a lot of weight on with his time out and still has a lot to go, but had got it down to 67 last week and was on course for a good comeback, but hopefully we've not seen the last of him in the ring! We felt bad asking Andrew O'B to step in again, but he is a good replacement, he's always in decent shape and has good technique so will be a nice fight.

Any final predictions?

Liam, I'm going to make you miss you're flight to Thailand for that!

Guy, I can here the sounds of Neil Diamond already! See you soon guys.

Just noticed another mistake above, Chris Shaw Vs. Gürkan Yalcin should read 70kg. As I said, only change in weight from the original was Ritchie and Bjorn!

Good luck Caly and Dinky Ninja fighters, IMO i think Tommy will just be too good for Andy O Brien although i know O Brien is more experienced, also think Hilary and Rab Burt might be too strong for their opponents as well. I dont know any of the foreigners in the 8 man but of the 5 british guys i have seen i think Michael Dicks is in a different league from the rest, i honestly think Jose is the only one that would test him but you never know in a tournament situation. Think Cadden v Rung and De Luca v John Cullen are almost too close to call and could go either way. Just my opinion.

Nearly there and everything is going well, its going to be a great day! The rest of the away fighters will be coming to Glasgow tomorrow, so have a good journey and hopefully a good weigh-in tomorrow night!

We're going to be making the draw live at the start of the event, that way everyone can see that its fair and will add to the drama of the draw!

There should be tickets on the door if people are waiting till the last minute, but I would advise coming directly to us at is cheaper, but only if its more than 2 tickets.

Getting excited now!!!

1pm doors, 2pm first fight!

Weigh-in went quite well, only Gürkan Yalcin failing to make the weight, so Chris Shaw's fight won't be on. If any 72kg fighter out there fancies a fight with Gürkan tomorrow, give me a shout, worth a try! LOL

This is going to be amazing!
