Posted: 2008-06-12 07:57:04
Scott Quigg had his 7th Pro Boxing fight last Saturday. He weighed in at 9 stone half a pound, his opponent 9 8 and a half pounds. The bloke had boxed at 10 stone three weeks earlier winning (I think by stoppage)

Scott stopped him, the bloke retired on his stool after the 2nd round, eye was a mess.

It's on You tube, going to try and paste it on here.

Scott next boxes on 4th July at the Liverpool olympia on the undercard of David Barnes British title fight. I will have tickets hsould anybody be interestd in going

Well done quigg! Darren does he have any fights in Aug/Sep? I'll be home then!!

All right Martin, I think he goes away in Augsut, so if he is going to fight it wil be late Sept, but doubt it. You gonna show your face down at the gym Martin??

This was a different fight to the last one, as last time out Scott boxed behind his jab and picked off a shorter, dangerous opponent with out really allowing the lad to land a decent shot. He ahs great varieity, is extreamly discaplined and a great lad also

Trasher you are are funny fooker aren't you!! It's a valid tactic to gay-up your opponent and then hit em with a sneaky shot, you taught me that when you asked me to "get to training early, I've something I wanna talk to about before everyone else arrives"

Darren's first post said he fights again on the 4th July on David Barnes undercard. Unless it's been cancelled, not sure? Good luck Quigg if it hasn't.

Just had the call to say Scott Quigg has just won his 8th Pro - fight in impressive style, on a big televised show too.

I couldn't make it along to this one tonight , but I've been told that he controlled it from the start, got caught with a left hook in first round for a flash knockdown, ....then he basically got up and knocked the living Sh*t out of his opponant, stopping him in the second round.

I know for sure it would have been a flash knock down too, as Scott trains like a world champion - and can take some disgusting shots, due to his fantastic fitness and conditioning.
I was sparring with Scott once in Thai and (he was probably about 2-3 stone lighter than me at the time) I threw a left hook as he came in and it landed far too hard for sparring - he carried on as if nothing happened, it wasn't untill the round ended and he got out the ring to go to toilets that we noticed his nose was half way across his face, I'm not boasting by the way !!!!!!!, I'm just pointing out that Scott is dertermined, dedicated and probably the most proffesional fighter I know both in boxing and Muay-Thai - I really do think He is going to be Britains next Big name - and a real big name too - not just a money pig for some crafty promotor - so come on the Ax community get behind this true sportsman,he's so down to earth and modest that he deserves the best - lets just hope he will start getting bigger and better fights in the not too distant future

Found this report on Scott's last fight

19-year-old Collyhurst and Moston Academy super-featherweight Scott Quigg shone like the brightest beacon on a very foggy night in his 6x3 round International contest against the 26-year-old classy Italian amateur champion Angelo Villani, who had lost only once in his eight bout professional career at the Everton Park Sports Centre in Liverpool on Friday night (4/7/2008) on this SKY TV in this seven-fight championship tournament.

*************

What a cracking contest this bout turned out to be!

It put the other contests on the bill in the shade for excitement. The taller Italian looked a class act as the bell for the first round sounded and he came out throwing a lovely left jab then hooking to head and body. Quigg, wanting to show that he was improved in his 8th contest traded punch for punch. In a split second he found himself on the floor looking up at the arch lights above the ring.

Villani caught the C/M youngster with a corking left hook that had 'finish' written all over it. Quigg fell backwards and another bright prospect looked to have bitten the dust. But the British boxer took an eight count and exchanged punch-for-punch much to the spectators delight and the cheering nearly tore the roof of the building.

Quigg would not be denied. The second round saw Scott attack in non-stop fashion throwing a beautiful old-fashioned straight English left jab which hurt and rocked the Italian's head back on his shoulders. These were mixed up with powerful-body punches that almost broke the Italian in half.

One of these rib-bending punches put Villani on the floor. The swarthy Italian was badly shaken and only just beat the count. But the young C/M boxer was like a lion after its prey as he attacked him remorselessly using two-handed combination punches. The crowd were stood on their feet screaming encouragement as Quigg drew his opponent to the ropes where he smashed him unmercifully with a combination before the referee jumped in and stopped the onslaught with Quigg the winner.

A truly brilliant and momentous victory. "This was a great victory for Scott," said Chief Coach Brian Hughes. "I didn't want him on television at this early stage of his development. But the Sky officials pleaded with us. These are the different levels these youngsters have to surmount if they are to progress further."

Saw the dvd of Scott fight last night.
Class.

When the camera zoomed in on his face after the flash knockdown in the first, you could see him think "B*****d! I'm gonna get a right rollicking for that one" :)
But even after the knockdown Scott continued to pick away with his jab, and at the end of the round it was 20:1 on the jabs landed count.
In the second Scott upped the pace, again landing that sweet jab straight down the middle, and then started to pile on the pressure. The body shot took everything out of him and Scott got that glint in his eye and unleashed a bludgering attack before the referee stepped in.
8 from 8.

I like the nice slick power style.
I thought it was funny how Brian (Scotts coach) said "you can keep your Amir Khans, we have the real deal right here! We are taking it back to old-school boxing and Scott is the future"

Nice one.

Give us plenty of notice before the next one and I'd love to come along.

Want to take a big "Thai" crowd next chance I get. Scott boxes in Liverpool on 19th July and then goes to America to train for four weeks (Take notice Hammer Khan)

After that....

Best thing about it, he is still one of the nicest lads you could find. He took Andy T down to Leeds yesterday for sparring, took my son Luke along for the ride, bought him his tea, wouldn't take any money of Andy or Me/Luke for his tea.

After he fights he tries to thank everyone personally for coming to watch him.

Total breath of fresh air

Scott ko's his African opponent in the first round and got 30 press ups for finishing him to quick!! Brian is a little worried that if Scott keeps bangin ghtem out he wont get the matches he needs to learn. 9f 9w 5 inside the distance. most at feather weight and he can make super bantamweight

30-press ups as a punishment.... thats a walk in the park. :)
Good work.

Who's in the top 10 in his weight catagories (feather/super bantam)?

Whens his first "test" against a top 10'er? Fight #15 or before then?
thrashpants
Posted: 2008-07-22 03:08:51
Scott didn't actually fight the African , as he was deemed "not good enough" for Scott - can't remember the name of his actual opponant - but he was no mug - went the Distance with British Champ a while ago - Scott is too sharp, and is like a shark when he smells blood - in fact I'm torn over the nickname i call him now - Shall I stick with "Sawn-off Scott-gun" or "Shark Quigg"
And true to form of what a toplad Scott is - he was on the blower to me straight away in Tenerife to see how I'd got on - Alot of people in the game are blowing their trumpet about him - it's only a matter of time in my opinion before we see Scott hit the big time - Fingers crossed it's sooner rather than later.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Scott fought again tonight - not sure of all the details as I couldn't make it ( I hope he only fights on a Saturday night from now on )
I know he fought an African - well from what I heard he half killed an African !! - stopped him first round
Another scalp for Sawn off - think thats 11 - 0
Will have more details tomorrow but would just like to say a massive well done to him - he trains so hard he deserves every win - and like I've said before I reckon we'll be hearing alot more about him in future - the show was televised on Sky and something tells me scott will be making an appearence ;-)

Scott got just 20 press ups this time for finishing the lad in the first, Scott wanted it to go on, but in his words "probably best it didn't"

He wasn't happy with his performance (don't think he ever has been!)

He may be boxing on a show in Manchester 6th Dec, promoted by....Oliver Harrison!!

Oliver has his promoters licence and has his first show tomorrow, with another one planned for the 6th.

Scott's record is now 10 fights 10 wins, 6 by ko. He is boxing at 9 stone but has never troubled to make weight, I think he could go lighter, god help anyone below that with his fire power!! I sometimes hold the pads for him in his boxing gym and he as hard as the light middle's in there

Scott fights again this Saturday 6th December at Wigan Robin park - think his opponant is the Romanian he fought earlier in the year - Scott has been training hard as always and it will be a cracking fight - anyone interested in tickets contact myself or Darren

Scott won again, this time had to settle for a points win against a tough lad who has never been down. He won every round and showed not just some good skills but also maturity in not getting involved in the scrap that the Romanian wanted.

Scoot should be boxing for Frank Maloney next year so hopefully onwards and upwards
