MAGB Fight Night
Sunday Feb 8th
Really looking forward to this one – heading the bill is Rob Stevens & Mike Nudd, its nice to be able to showcase Mike in the Midlands, a lot of people are familiar with Nathans club & Mikes name, but they haven’t seen them go to work…. Been quite funny because a lot of the kids & parents at the gym have reacted to Mikes picture with – ‘ he looks REALLY tough!!’ which of course we know he can be!
Some nice novice fights, IKF has its first Midland area title, Shawn Hurdman has really impressed me with his training ethic, he has trained really hard, not even having a drink over Christmas, and has taken on board feedback about kicking more from his last fight, its nice to offer these opportunities to someone who takes it seriously.
The line up has changed again over the last couple of days so I will post it when I have re done it!
Please email info@magb.com or 07961 4000 93 for tickets – or contact any of the participating clubs

The top of the bill is a very interesting fight and one I cant wait to see. (thats if I get to see it)

Its just got so many unknowns in it. Mike Nudds fighting heavier, Rob at a much lighter weight than before. Could be a cracker.

Everyone at my gym loves to see diesel fight and talks about him all the time. Its great that we have people like this in full contact right now and we need more of them. people with great styles not afraid to put it on the line against anyone and also worth pating to see!

jake gladwish is fighting jake richards on the 28th march for the iska title jr holds. is it a possibility that gladwish can fight the winner of rafiq and hurdman for the ikf next time round
magb
Posted: 2009-02-05 06:14:42
that would be a good natural direction, and certainly before either of these midland opponants can even think of progressing, gladwish would have to be tackled, whether that be sooner or later.

i will propose to the winner after sunday. let me know if you want to come down to the show pete.

UPDATE
Please find update of opponants, may thanks to Douggy, Nathan, H & Gary for accommodating the changes.

WEATHER
Update on weather – today all main roads were absolutely fine, and moterways clear too. Luckily the venue is only 5 mins away from the M42, and travel is on a main road all the way except the last few yards. I’ve been to tesco to buy salt, so if locals see a strange woman gritting a small stretch, just know that its all in the life of a promoter!!

I am really happy with some of these matches. I was excited to see the return of Vicky Ranson after her long break, but unfortunately she has incurred a bruised coxics – which of course cannot allow her to fight, but Gemma Marshall is a tough fighter and I am just as excited to see her & Lucy Payne, who I have also heard good things about. Obviously I am happy to see the females strutting their stuff, I can’t see these two disappointing!

On the female front, we have two other novices who I will be watching with interest. I am not familiar with Kirsty James, but Arthur is a credible coach and Racheal showed her potential in November, so again a fight I am looking forward to.

Myah Williams had a cracking demo in November with James Fenning. Myah is matched with a new comer from St. Georges – you know that’s going to a be good one, and James is matched with Newark, quality cadets from quality clubs, & these guys are our next pro generation, I am expecting these 2 fights to be setting the barr.

Some old names – Frank Preston, welcome back, and some new names, Christian Harris, Ian Johnson and Danny Harkin & Ricky Atkins welcome also…

The clubs hosted are B’ham Martial Arts, Lincoln KB, Pride KB, Bridgewater, Newark MA, TS Kickboxing, Fite Rite, Touchgloves, Crown KB, & St. Georges.

This has to be a great night in the making as the fighters have come from some of our country’s top instructors, and of course the promoter will try to find a way to take some credit too!!

magb
Posted: 2009-02-06 18:32:13
we haved moved on... its not at this point about comparing the progression to any other sport, its comparitive to where we were not too long ago.

6 years ago, there was no sign of an amateur/ pro definition or divide, there now is.

we have a set of truelly indepenadant pro rankings which influence things more than any single sanctioning body.

uncredible titles are still offered, & fought, but we also have some damn credible titles fought, and they are brilliant.

we really do now have a pyramid forming pushing the very best to the top where they should be, and genuine respect comes from that.

we have become far more transparent ( i know the internet also contributes to that) but also co-operation in sharing info has come on leaps & bounds.

the rules are more consolidated

the geographical boundries have opened up, with people fighting each other from all over the place.

if you were to anyalise how it was then, to now, then progression can definitly be concluded.

some of the novices who have come through my shows have performed to a standard that is synonamus to many pro shows, & thats not me just saying that as a promoter, thats been a fact and there are many who would vouch for that. As existing pro's are given more challenging opportunities, they get better & better & as the amateurs come through to pro, they are raising the standards too.

is there anything i have missed out?

looking forward to this show, started the year off with a few injuries at our club, the return of Vikki ranson has been put on hold as dawn has stated due to badly bruised back, Vikki is gutted as she has been out with injury for over a year now and was looking forward to returning to the ring. Also Duane Hughes was meant to be on the show and has sustained a broken bone in his hand, again we were hoping for a big year for Duane who is a great prospect and we were looking to kick it off in birmingham :( Im sure the two of them will recover and be on top form throughout the year.
Cant wait for the Diesel and Nudd fight its gonna be a great battle. Also looking foward to seein Lucy Payne fight again too, she is another great talent with lots of skills, heard good things about Gemma too so looking forward to watchin these two ladies and hopefully Vikki and Gemma can meet each other later in the year.
Good Luck to everyone fighting and To Dawn and H with the promoting!!!

All the every best to Diesel, he is a true talent and has flourished into a really exciting fighter, obviously much better and more effective since dropping the weight Mike will test him for sure, but heart and head is with Rob on this one. Good Luck.

rob will appreciate that alan, thank you. Are you & tyler coming down?

ts kb have had a stretch of bad luck with injury's lately, but i'm sure they will all be back with avangance soon!

h couldn't think of anything worse than being involved in the promoting side trevor - he has too much fun making my promoting difficult by being a difficult coach!!

also, he likes to call 'us' (promoters) names, apart from you, i think your the only one who gets away with it!

true dawn the last show had all amateurs and they were good enough to grace the show and any other show, jake r and my jake are fighting soon and hopefully that will be a great fight it is on paper and it is showing through ticket sales
go back so many years and who would pay good money to see ams, ikf all the way showing the way forward for the sport and the ams aswell as the pro
magb
Posted: 2009-02-07 06:05:23
i'm really looking forward to jake vs jake... its local too, so thats even better!

just spoken to the touchgloves team, mike nudd is confident, strong & within his comfort zone..

we are having the weigh in on the day, rob was 63kg on thursday, so thats on track.

nudd hopefully will be no lighter than 62 - going to feed hime up later, thats if nathan exposing himself to the solihull ladies doesn't get in the way!

the other 2 girls i refered to are both absolute novices, so they would need a little time before being ready for your girl i think, but there not that far away....

i also have 1 other females details who has a 2 fights if i recall, this was last year, so i will dig it out - leave that with me.

Rob beatMike, absolutely great fight, Nudd was strong, but Rob was phenomenal.

The showmanship was great – I haven’t ever seen fighters talk so much while fighting!

Decision unan points. Mike also took an 8 count in round 8, from what I think was a side kick, which resulted in the paramedics diagnosing a broken jaw.

Great night, well done Dawn.

Once again some excellent amateur fights with an extremely exciting title fight between Haroon and Shaun. Both lads were very pumped up and this made it a little messy at times, but understandable and as I say very very exciting.

Mike as Dean has said was very tough but Rob at this weight will take some beating. Great performance.

Highlights for me were as I say Haroon/Shaun..Danny Harkin and Joss Gilbert (both great potential)...Nathans massive fan in the corner....and my chicken and chips!

Good to see so many people there. Jag, Big Dave, Neil Kelly, Dean, Shaun (ST George), Gary from Fite rite who I met for the first time, Mark Gibbs and Mickey Blackburn, not seen since he was fighting and there last night to watch his son make an excellent debut.

and home by 2am, which considering the weather was not bad.

Good show and once again demonstrating how to run one in the correct manner.

New gloves on the night, lace up adidas fight gloves, handwraps checked and signed, good judges and medics.

The Rob Stevens fight was worth the money on its own. In this sport we have very few fighters that people look up to. As I said to Rob last night, to all the young fighters in my gym he is a bit of a hero and they were all in the crowd shouting his name along with his fans. We need more of this if we are to progress as a sport!

On the night Mike Nudds could just not get near him as Rob used fast kicks off the front leg, good evasive movement and fast combos, never staying still for long. He looked fit in all the 8 rounds and still at the end had plenty in the tank. At 62k he will be a match for anyone!

I spoke to Nathan just after the fight and he said that the medics thought the jaw was broken.

He got a rock solid chin and as i left he was still being examined by the doctor. But even when he eventually had to take a standing count in the last round you could tell he did not want to but knew something was wrong. Respect to Mike first time I have seen him fight Tough Tough Tough fighter. But I would agree with comments made Diesel is a very exciting prospect especially at that weight.

Rob - Great entertainment and Quality fighter, cant wait to see him again in action. H - would love to put him on in May or Oct. Ring me when you recovered your lovely missis (Dawn) has got my number :)

Firstly, thank you to all the clubs – it was a bad weekend weather wise but everyone made it, and also thank you to the spectators, because by 6.00pm, it was really snowing hard, so it would have been a slippery journey even for the locals.

Just to update on Mike Nudd, saw him this morning, he decided not to go to hospital last night, but I don’t think his jaw is broken…. Last night his jaw was out of line, this morning it is swollen (but he said he has had worse!) and he is chattering away, it definitely should be looked at, but think he’ll be fine.

I was really looking forward to Lucy & Gemma, lucy’s knee popped early in round 1 so the fight had to stop – but was a bout which looked like it would have been a good one… will someone please put that match on again..
Rachael Ball (56kg) has had 1 loss & 1 demo, so a real novice, took my eye She beat Kirsty who was a gallant opponent, I think she will grow into a real female contender at that weight. I would like to see Rachael come back & fight Lucy.

Myah Williams again, a real novice only having 1 demo previously, fought really well. Shaun’s lad is still 15, 60kg, Myah not long turned 16, 61.5kg, but Myah was 5ft 2 & Jordon was 6ft 2! Really good performance by Myah, & I really think he will develop into a class fighter. That said, Jordon has his first fight out the way now, and I am expecting him to come back with the St. Georges winning reputation soon.

From what I saw of Joss Gilberts fight, this again is someone who will make a good mark in FC, please keep the 2 disciplines Joss!

Danny Harkin was superb… this being only his 2nd fight and he performed with comfort in all departments…

Ricky Atkins also had his 1st fight and again, his performance indicates that he is a definite prospect.

Dalton gave a wicked performance, well done..

I don’t think I saw any of these fights all the way through, so these comments are limited & based on what I saw… I’m sure others can elaborate!

Shaun Hurdman deservingly took the midland area title, he & Haroon had a real battle… its 1 win each now… this is definite a trilogy in the making, but I can’t wait! Worth also mentioning that both lads weighed in at 61.5kg, so I think we have established the weight that they belong in, the title category reflecting this lighter weight.

I didn’t see enough of the other fights, apart from Rob & Mike….
Rob stole the show really, with a complete & faultless performance. Did you all see the 360 kick???!!! At such close range, to do a 360 & land it was brilliant… ! Mike is a diamond though, tough through & through, a real sportsman, and entertained the crowd in his own unique way. He officially has the best ‘nutter face’ in the ring that I have ever seen. He called Rob on, laughing (with phsyco eyes!!) giving real value entertainment. I would recommend the Touch Gloves team to any show, a pleasure to deal with from start to finish and great people.

On a personal note, just wanted to talk about the amateur developement. When we first started MAGB shows, the only 2 clubs really who embraced the definition was H & Neil. Rob & Sam were fighting full contact by then.
In fairness, Paul Sutton & Paul Hennessy would accommodate it, but there was still restrictions as to where to take these fighters.
On a lot of shows, seasoned pros were still fighting 3 rounds and many novices were getting in the ring with them… The experiment was to push the am / pro divide.

I can remember getting to a point where MAGB was still the only show to be consistent with the am rules, & the realisation that maybe no one else would do it ( do you remember that conversation at the emerald neil!!). Colin Payne finally budged & changed his mind & took the magb concept to his show… CJP did it on wako shows and things began to shift.

With Carl & Colin joining IKF & making the decision to endorse the concept of a proper amateur circuit, we are moving to a place where the whole mind set is being turned. Even Douggy Harrison & Shaun Greatex!!! & I though changing Colin’s mind was a victory!!

This is not a political post – its an emotional one. The original 3 amigo’s, Rob Sam & then Qas are proof of the pudding, but there are now SOOO many others now… I am really really proud of so many performances from novices, to watch them develop through an amateur career, & then to see them turn into pro fighters who do the word ‘pro’ justice… well, it makes it all worth it!

Again thanks to everyone, well done.

Good job as usual guys (the scores are on previous post with the results), its half the battle to have confidence in the officials.

hi guys,just got back.
great show and good to meet mr burton, dean, mark, etc etc, also to catch up with the ts crew inc sukhy sukhy sukhy and stacey stacey stacey.;-)

highlight of the show was the bridgewater teams disgraceful goading of the ring girls, how can you live ith yourself joe and arthur .lol

mike v rob was very entertaining even though mike lost convincingly he stayed off the ropes(unlike usual) and controlled the ring centre.rob was just too quick and slick for him-end of. great entrances from both and mike can truly live up to his name of iron mike after this performance as not many fighters would have taken clean shots like that.
i have never declared mike as a world class fighter but domestically is so entertaining, and dosent duck anyone--he is still up for stacey next month, then will probably end up taking qas on at some point whilst the others play quack games.:-).it was also great to prove mikes weight as a naturally 60kg fighter as after a 2 course carvery only 2 hours before and he still weighed 61.6kg

joss was ace and has learnt to tighten up after a bad knockout in his last fight,i just wish this one was on p4tv as well.well done to his opponent who was certainly no mug!and in his first contest.

gutted for lucy,i wanted to show her off as she has improved loads and in 10 fights time i believe her to be the next julie, but her knee keeps letting her down and because it dosent happen regularly i have to keep her busy.sorry to her opponent as it was warming up to be good and gemma would have tested lucy out big time im sure.
thanks to h and dawn, next time ill make sure i get you both drunk.

just wanted to highly reccomend the photography company. pete expalained before he came how much room he would need and what he would be doing. he was on time, set up & got on with the night without any inconvenience or hassle.

the photos are printed out instantly and the cost of each photo is reasonable. i have booked him for the rest of my shows for the year, july 11th & october 8th, and wouldn't hesitate to reccommend his services to others.

some of his pictures weren't bad either!!

thanks pete, been a pleasure!

Arthur has been banned from all future Absolute Adrenaline events due to his inability to control himself around ring girls. You would think that a man of his age would have more class. Even Spearmint Rhino are now checking the fight list before agreeing to attend my events in case he is there:) (only joking).

Joss Gilbert right?
Mark my words. I said it before when he fought at Bridgwater. A good full contact fighter. May be not suited to Thai but a good full contact fighter who will benefit greatly from the Amateur circuit.

H Smiling? He always smiles when he is talking to me - may be he is laughing at me?

It was great to be able to come to one of your shows Dawn & H. I got such positive feedback from Neil after the last one that I was like a moth to a lightbulb.

Diesel was the Man. Damaging Lead Sidekicks used constantly to the same place. Sidekick to the Jaw and the 360.... what a showman. Enjoyed it very much. His opponent was a real hard guy too. Loved the goading, and general gamesmanship from him. Diesel looked like he hadn't even warmed up after the fight. Complete fitness and professionalism. Well done H (and Rob).

Great to see Winston and Colin, respect to both and always great to speak with Dean Sugden.

Now you people have got me on the hook.... I want to see wat Lucy can do, so I wish her a speedy recovery. Shame for both camps, but can't be helped. Can't wait to see this prospect achieve greatness!

I was born in Solihull, have lived in Solihull most of my life, and I have never been to the Land Rover Club. It was a great venue with great facilities. It was nice to be able to sit and watch with a pint of Guiness in my hand rather than work, so for me it was a real treat. No delays between fights, even after a no contest! This show real planning.

All in all, a great night. Well done MAGB!

ha ha,sorry dawn,i was only joking about arthur goading the ring girls,i would hate to get him banned from spearmint rhino.it was me,but unfortunately i have a wife who can beat me up.

mike appears fine today and hasnt stopped yapping,so i cant see that his jaw is broke even though touchgloves would have been a lot quieter.
lucys knee straightened up and she was back training just punches last night, she will fight this weekend in cambridge so fingers crossed but will be giving away 4kg so not sure how she will get on.

this was the first time we have been to birmingham, its only 4hrs from here,so i will definitely be pursuing fights up that way again.and most importantly there is a reflex 80s music bar in solihull-classic night to step out for a bit of dexys.

There I was, minding my own, enjoying some decent bouts at a decent show with a decent crowd and all that goes with it, but I just happened to be in the wrong place next to the wrong guy. I had to leave early because the howling was too much between rounds. Nathan, hang your head, that calendar has brought out a darker side to which we are all only just discovering.
Great show Dawn, be happy to come up again, look forward to hosting you guys in May. Not sure about Nathan though.
May 10th Bridgwater show there's an early plug!

Sorry I have been ages to comment on how good a show it was, havent been on Ax for weeks, firstly the show was great, really am seeing the benefits of the pro/am divide now and really will think it will benefit everyone!

Rob Stevens fight was a great show of how the use the ring, Rob was excellent om his feet and managed to get out of any awkward position the Mike tried to put him in, using a nice ead leg kick time and time again, i must admitt i really did feel Rob made Mike look well out of his league and we all know that Mike is of a high standard so that just goes to show the performance of Rob who will be a major force at 61.5kg as i believe that is what he came in at??

Really pleased with Craigs performance as well, i really do think he can go a long way once he irons a few things out, but he listens and whats to learn so looks promising! Thought we were lucky to get a draw with Will, he never got going untill the last round, would make a nice rematch!

Was great to meet Nathan Kitchen to he seemed a really nice guy, after reading all his posts on here i must admitt i did think he was a bit of a tool, but the sort of person i would get on with and i think i told him that, plus i want an invite to the next Touchgloves christmas party!

And Dawn have not forgot your little comment either, and was pleased that in your words 'you were trying to be one of the lads' lol

and a cuppa for 50p cant be bad, all in all a great ngiht and look forward to the next one, think we have had fighters on 4 of Dawns and H's shows and always come home happy and impressed.
