Big fan of Ricky, but even more so of Manny. The little guy is amazing, and will be far too quick for Hatton. It would be good for Hatton, and British Boxing if he does pull it off.

I know these don't mean much and don't really point to a winner but just for a laugh:- marks out of ten for each of them on the following

Strength

punching power

Hand Speed

Foot speed (work)

Defence

Punch resilience

overall skill

Stamina

Experience

Desire

strength of the corner (team behind them)

Anything else

You see both of you, if you added up, would give more to pacman than hatton, however these things mean nothing!

Here's my take, hatton is the stronger and the more powerful puncher. However in order to land one, he is either going to have to be a lot smarter than he has shown in his last few fights, or take four everytime. Pacman will look to hit with those fast raking shots and not be hit back, should he I believe he could wear hatton down and possibly cut him badly! The straight shots hatton took from malanagi knocked his head back and pacman won't throw them in single shots

But if hatton can figure out a way to nullify the foot speed of pacman and trap him down, different story.

Freddie Roach will of course know all this and will have his lad working on it, what's hatton gonna be working on? I hope he does 8 week camp like Mayweather Snr wanted or else he's in trouble. hatton's brother fights ted Bambi final eliminator for wbu world title in Altrincham on 28th march, if Hatton is there, expect him to come 2nd v Pacman

i thought some of them marks for hatton were low especially when it comes to his footwork and chin.against PM his footwork was immense he out danced the dancer and created some lovely angles and his chin at light welter is as solid as any other fighter around ...he took some massive bombs from tzsyu and walked through them.

Maybe Manny can move up a few pounds and take on Andy Fordham?
I really think that whoever wins will be a dilemma...if Manny loses people will say its only cos he was fighting way above his weight and if Hatton loses people will say he was never as good as everyone said when it came to fighting legends.
A draw would be awesome!
But i dont think Manny can go the distance on Hattons punching power and I dont think Hatton can keep up against Mannys stamina.
Someone is gonna go by an early round stoppage...!

One thing for sure no matter who wins this it is going to be an absolute war. Freddie Roach will have Pacman tip top and his defence against hattons body punching will be key to him winning. Watching 24/7 looks like Floyd Snr been working defence with Ricky for a few months whereas Pacmans been with Roach for 13 years or something. If it goes the distance I can't see pacman losing he will be too relentless for ricky and frustrate him don't see him allowing ricky to get up close like he likes to. But then again I know next to nothing about pro boxing just the way I see it.
mdk
Posted: 2009-04-21 10:24:45
Interesting on 24/7 to see Roach working alongside Michal Moorer at wildcard gym. Roach always strikes me as being his own man with his own ideas. Saying that he must know what hes doing so if he thinks another voice in there helps then fair enough. Mayweather was pissed off that Hatton didnt fly to the States earlier so he could have a few weeks extra in Manchester working with Lee Beard so swings and roundabouts. Hatton doesnt slur his words does he? All mancs talk like that anyway! Reminds me of when Sky did an interview with him after the Danny Willliams Klitscho fight at Rickys after fight party at about 5 in the morning. Ricky trying to do a proper analysis of the fight whilst looking and sounding completely smashed! Funny as!

Mayweather was in Manchester with Hatton before they flew out to Vegas and Lee Beard went to Vegas with them, Hatton now spends 6 weeks in Vegas with Mayweather to get used to the conditions. Up until his last fight he only ever went for 2 weeks before the fight. I think any more than six weeks out there could be a bad thing for Ricky as it would be a strain mentally to be holed up like he is for any longer.

i like the both of them but want pacman to win this fight as he's the real deal p4p, just don't appreciate the hype hatton and the media are putting out that hatton will be #1 p4p if he beats pacman(which he won't be imho)
it's a tough fight and as said above speed kills but so does a bigger object moving at a slower pace...sometimes the bigger object will cause more damage at the slower speed and suffer less actual damage in the process
i see the fight as a win win situation for the mayweather clan...if hatton loses then they've had a real good look at pacman and know what will work and what won't...if hatton wins then they know him inside out now and will know his strengths/weaknesses and will have messed with his style and are even more likely to get in his head and rattle him having worked so close
mayweather's are class and have me in stitches, roger was on 24/7 the other day lol had to skip it back 4 times just to get half an idea wtf he was saying and i still remember floyd jnr sitting with his mum at a press conference "momma what's my name?" "money" lol

Hatton tried to hit PBF to the body, but as PBF`s defence was possibly the best I was ever seen, he just couldnt get through.

In fact, the more I think back to that performance from PBF, it was one of the greatest I have seen, he was awesome.

Pacman within 9 rounds stopped due to ricky's face getting sliced open and falling all over the floor. Pac too quick and too acurate for him imo, ricky will not and wont learn, in his last fight he was still diving in all over with massive silly hooks, cant do that with pac, he will just make him miss and punish him. Cant wait to see the fight though its gunna be fooking ace.

I'm with fatandbald on this, they had been on TV practicing that very shot for weeks, jab and move the head one way, move to the outside in classic southpaw style and throw the left with a loop. Basic boxing and hatton did fall for it.

I think you have to blame his trainer. I saw him padding hatton and all the time he had his left hand low, couple this with no head movement and it was just waiting to happen and thats what cost him.

How about one more fight v Amir Khan in Manchester? Possible?

Glad i didnt get up for it and even if they had a rematch i would still say hatton would win as cannot quite believe this result!

Posted: 2009-05-04 05:12:38
Mark, your spot on. If you watch the last episode of 24/7 theres actually a clip where Hatton, Floyd, Beard etc are sat watching clips of Manny training and Ricky actually comments that all Manny seems to do is work on that one shot and Hatton says something like "whats he gonna do when i step the side as he rolls off?" so he definately knew about it. I don't think he could've believed how fast Pacquiao was though. Its one thing knowing a fighters fast but another thing entirely dealing with the speed. You can catch or slip what you can't see. The thing with the plan to move his head and use his jab was totally canceelled out by Pacquiao's faints, movements and speed. Pac basically stripped him down to being a raw novice cos all the work hey had done with Mayweather relied on timing and Hatton didnt have the skill or reflexes to time pacquiao's speed.
Herrcutt
Posted: 2009-05-04 06:03:27
I think Hatton should retire now as he has acheived all the forward movement he can!

Dont think he is not a class act neither - just the 2 x losses to Mayweather & Pacquiao where to better fighters.

I think Hatton should now focus on his Promotions side of things as he seems to be part of a team that is good at this. And they are now experienced and full of contacts inside the Las vegas scene so should be able to work through this route for other fighters from the UK.
markgibbs
Posted: 2009-05-04 07:53:50
Thats true Mick and and as atriua says the first knockdown when he threw the hook then rolled the punch was so fast it made Hatton look like a novice.

Still think his trainer is to blame to a degree. They have worked for ages now but maybe not long enough to change his style enough.

Pacquio only did what any southpaw does, albeit, does it at lightning speed.

Hatton has been a great fighter. He should retire now but money always talks and I think he will anounce his retirement, wait for Amir Khan to become a world champ then face him in one last fight in the UK in what would be a massive money spinner.

PBF v Pacquio is the one I would love to watch now.

I would actually blame Billy Graham as much as anyone, the mistakes Ricky made he's been making all his life, and for me a trainers job is to correct mistakes as much as add new things. If there is a mistake and all of us (comparative novices) can see it then the trainers of the worlds best are going to see it. It's a very difficult thing to to change 12 years of habit in 8 weeks.

At the end of the day Ricky's always dropped his left hand "to put his glove back on" after he throw his left hook". On 24/7 it showed the clip with hattons camp all going on about Pacman's one shot, the right hook, and then ten seconds later we see Hatton on the pads throw a combi and then step back and drop his left hand 12 inches away from his chin. He should have been stopped from doing that years ago
Deano White

I believe that Billy graham's strength was you could throw any combination at him and he could "catch them on the Pads" But, coupled with the ridiculous body bag, all that is is glorified bag work. All that's doing is improving the trainers reactions, it's not giving the boxer anything, have you ever seen Billy Graham throw a punch back at Ricky?

Anyway, it's all water under the bridge. I hope he retires, Witter is not a good fight! maybe retire and then come back to challenge Amir when he wins a world title, but with Roach in his corner????? I suppose that Roach would not let him take the fight until he was sure Khan would beat him.

The thing is, this performance will grate on Ricky's nerves, he will not want to be remembered for that.

Katsidis can bang and likes a tear up. If he has developed a shyness of being hit then it will show in that one.

Steve Bunce ( legend ) this week on his show broke the news mayweather when hatton doing his final sparring didnt turn up till the 7th round then on the night of the fight didnt show till Ricky was gettingb his hands wrapped. Plus never being on time as shown on 24/7.
Thats all Hatton needs coming up to fighting best man on the planet.
To me mayweather is all ego and thinks himself bigger than the fighter, a selfish B.....d. As for best trainer in world (self confessed)think Roach has got a bigger claim than him. The man is genius. Predicted virtually spot on rd that Pac would stop Oscar, predicted khan, and predicted hatton wouldnt go to 3 rounds. We all thouht Haton would last longer at least but Roach knows better.
Big dent in mayweathers ego rofl

Yeah, it said on the live program that by the time the fight that was aired before Hatton's had started that Mayweather had just turned up.
