Hi Pete,
Nothing on my in box.
Please try narholden@aol.com
Thanks,
Heads-up!
Posters should be arriving through the post now to the gyms that have registered an interest.
I might drop by for a bit of a knockabout on this one myself. Yep, after 4 years of training and losing 45 kg in weight Mr Smith has agreed that I can have my first ever fight. It's something I've been wanting to do for a long time and even smashing up my shoulder in a cycling accident last year didn't put me off. I know a lot of people have put in time and effort to get me to this stage and after all this time I'm certainly not planning on fighting just to get a draw.
Sounds like fighting talk bro:)
Great stuff!
Drop onto the AKAwebsite and have a look at some downloads to get a heads up on the competition format MH.
OSU
There was a problem with the videodownloads - all fixed now. Enjoy -

If you email us their details we can work on the matchups.
David
Event Update :...
On Friday we received no post from the Royal Mail, ( this occasionally happens, should they have a postman covering for another - as apparently the temporary postman cannot find the large mailbox on the wall outside the studio??!! ) - more likely he cannot be bothered walking up one flight stairs.
Therefore I have so far not received any entry forms. Hopefully these will arrive today.
I will look to start the matchups later today, and then send confirmations to the supporting instructors by Friday.
Thanks,
Neil
LOL Neil even I could see the mailbox on the wall and Im as blind as a bat!.
Generally there are lots of posties off on tuesdays after bank holiday weekends too!!! heavy bags and all!
Hi neil i have several juniors intrested in competing how much will it cost to compete and will it be osr rules
cheers steve
can any one help answering my question
cheers steve
Hi Steve
Please email me the childrens details
name age height weight and competition record please.
many thanks
David
Costs will be the similar if not the same as adults simply because of the venue and event costs along with the fact that each individual still recieves a trophy and fully edited dvd etc.
I will however confirm this
Should anyone require overnight lodging I can arrange preferential rates with a local hotel which has a spa and pool for a little R&R afterwards!
Indian head massage is optional extra lol!

Ill make a call gav
Did you get your extra tickets?
only 2 more days will be nice to see a few of the old faces.
looks like another good day shaping up.
Personally I'm looking forward to a pork pie with my name on it. I've been working on making the weight but there's only so much pasta and lean chicken you can have before you get bored. 3 kg gone in the last few weeks and 47 kg gone altogether.
I could do with a ticket for Saturday (my brother wants to find out what I've been doing during all those hours down the gym). It's obviously a bit too late to send it out now but would it be possible to get something sorted out on the day?
rankings are overdue a update
Hi Marcus,
I will put a ticket aside for you at the weight check.
Rankings will be updated following this event.
I have had many emails asking me about the rankings this year.
The reason there has been no update, is that we have been looking at another system for the events.
We have been considering running in the following manner.
Please note - this is still only considered, possibly for the 2010 season.
1. Divisions :-
---------------
Returning to several divisions - ( which worked great for the first four years of the A.K.A. events).
-63
-70
-77
-84
-91
-98
2. Rankings :-
--------------
Giving ranking points per single bout over the course of events during the immediate season, i.e. 2009 or 2010. So at the start of the season, all players are ranked equally at zero points.
3. Championships :-
-------------------
At the final event of the season, invite the 8 highest ranked athletes per division to contest the Championship 'Grandprix Tournament' title.
This would then see the leading players contest the championship title, with a quarter final,
then a semi-final for the winners of the quarter finals,
then a final for the winners of the semi finals,
- all on the same event - just like K-1 style kickboxing events.
* This may yet be a 4 man tournament as opposed to an 8 man tournament.
Overview:-
----------
As I said, this is a format that we have been looking at in recent months. It has some pro's and con's. The main one being that we would not have situations when players miss out on competing for titles, due to their opponents pulling out.
Due to last minute changes etc we are looking for...
Male - Youth Match (Age 15) - 72kgs
Male - Heavyweight - 90 Kgs
Male - Super-Heavyweight - 110 Kgs
Female - Upto 50 Kgs
Female - Over 75 Kgs.
Female - Over 85 Kgs.
can anyone help with the above please
Should be a great little event.
30 contests in total ( which is our max, so 100% turnout again! )
2 Title bouts top of the bill - BOTH are title defences, full credit to the champions!
Best of luck to everyone competing tomorrow.
Safe journey for those travelling across the country.
I lost on points to Justin Hartley who was quite a tough opponent (I think the final score was 76-98), but I went the distance without getting outclassed and I hardly even noticed when I got a nosebleed after getting punched in the face. This was my first scored fight after just doing interclubs and returning from a 3 month moratorium on training last year after smashing up my shoulder in a cycling accident and I learnt a lot from it. When you get that first punch in the face you know it's real and it isn't just sparring in the gym. My thanks to David and Neil for doing the show, Kyle and Davy Mac for looking after me today, the Team Phoenix crowd for their support and everyone at Bad Company for getting me from looking like this 4 years ago:
to this today:
I will be fighting again but I don't know yet where or when.
Well done to you Marcus.
You should be very proud of your achievements, as you have come a very long way.
For the record, the scores were.
Red Player - Marcus Houlden - Leeds.
Blue Player - Justin Hartley - Milton Keynes.
Round 1 : Red 35 - Blue 39.
Round 2 : Red 58 - Blue 76.
Round 3 : Red 76 - Blue 98.
Very good, considering that this was your first time!
A lot of people lose by outclass on their first A.K.A. contest as the K-1 style format is fast paced, straight from the starting blocks. You obviously took on board what I advised you on this, and this helped you complete the scheduled distance.
I hope that you feel you gained from the experience and would welcome you again on future events.
It was a pleasure working with you and your team,
Neil
IKF KICKBOXING (O.S.R. FORMAT).

Many thanks for the kind comments - hard work as always but well woth it.
many thanks to all the trainers and competitors who attended, its not possible to do these events without your valued and continual support.
Marcus your positive experience is exactly what the AKA is all about, providing a stepping stone experience from low key normal interclubs to a proper venue and real ring experience.
No egos no animosity were all along to work together and help one another.
From raw novice to the experience and skill of the amateur champions - everyone worked together superbly.
Win or lose the level of sportsmanship and respect at this event was truly inspiring to me.
Thanks again to you all
