Hey travs what if you get hit by a bus tomorrow.
Lol
Best to go onto the airlines own sites that way you dont pay no middleman.

I have always found the direct sites more expensive :/ STA travel is pretty good.

Happy travels :)

me and wife just did manchester paris then paris bangkok airfrance then return bangkok amsterdam then home klm £1100.00 for the pair of us btw are same airline but klm far nicer aircraft and staff on airfrance are ignorant lazy unhelpful bastards wheras klm go out their way to give great customer service alas they didnt have a spare parachute for me to bale out 1 hour into 11 hour return flight home.
Shop about with aitlines ya can get some good deals on business and klm/airfrance now offer more legroom seats for very little extra money but well worth it.

KLM have to have more legroom because of the average dutch person being so tall. Cabon girls ugly as buggery tho

we just got newcastle-heathrow-bangkok with british airways and quantas £575 with lastminute.com, i normally always book it 10 months before and pay some off every month but you can only do that using a middle man and you still have to have the balance paid in full 10 wks before and have always paid more. we just saved our money this year and booked it 7 weeks before, got it cheaper and with much better airline, great flying times and connection times!

I'd say try and book direct with airlines and play them off each other on price?
We flew with Quatar and were very good,Stopped on route via Doha... which was a 2 hour wait in the airport and they were still building it lol
Sandy Holt

Marianne ..... I do hope the industrial action has ended before your departure date. Just been announced, that all (thats national AND international) Quantas flights have been grounded by their CEO, in a dispute over workers pay and conditions.

Fingers crossed it doesn't turn into a BA type debacle.

Sandy, just type STA Travel into google, it will pop up :)

Marianne, I hope your flights are safe :/

Just today Marianne. 29/10/11. Google it and you may get more info, ie- if there are to be scheduled strikes, non-movement of aircraft etc etc ......
I do hope yours is ok as there is nothing bloody worse than something that is out of your control wreaking mayhem !!!

i had a look, it does say that full refund will be given if the strike affects your flight, hopefully we wont have to change when we go :(
Knobsy
Posted: 2011-10-29 16:55:34
The refund is a double-edged sword unfortunately.

As per the reason this thread was started, trying to find flights as cheap as you did is ridiculously hard. The longer you leave it the costlier it becomes. Bloody Quantas !!!

Has anybody had any experience with Thai Airways?

These seem to be the cheapest, and i like their flight times, and also the fact that drinks are free during the flight!! However i have read some 'horror stories' of people's experience of flying with them!

But surely as martial artists we can handle a bit of discomfort for 12/16/22 hours?!?

tat 2 NO Direct Flights pal
hows that a cheapskate ? I LIVE IN THE EPICENTRE (OF THAI BOXING) Sunny Bolton not the Overpriced Capital of Cant park ya car or even get into London without a City charge WTF? No Thanks lol
i / we would have to fly from Manchester to London Gatwick or Heathrow so thats the first of "2" flights and in total 2 to 3 hours in itself even though its only a 45+ minutes flight !You have to Check in, bags, go through the long and laborious UK security checkes before you even get to passport control and then your gate ( total time 2 + hours ) then the flight to London and same again to your So caklled "Direct" 12 hours to Thailand lol )

it is 22 hours

from `your` house to the airport ? = how long?
from arriving at the airport in taxi ? car ? train whatever to boarding plane 2 to 3 hours
then a "Direct" flight for YOU guys in London is 12+ hours
then you have to leave plane and que up at Damn Customes VBisa / passport control and then Collect bags and then get out of airport and then get a Taxi? or train? bus etc: to your hotel etc: hiow longs that in Bangers traffic??
i will bet ya TAT3 its approx 18 to 20 even for you
i will bet ya a £10err

Flew Thai Air direct to Bangkok and flight cost about £550 and I was well impressed. Flight left London at around 1 o'clock so no silly o'clock start time and left Bangkok at 8 ish in morning so no hanging around for hours. Soon as seatbelts off sign came on they bouht drinks and meals round then had soft drinks laid out on tables in cabin crew sections at all times so you could wonder up and help yourself, much quicker than asking stewardess. Beer to start, wine with meal, brandy straight after... I think they wanted everyone asleep!!ha polite and helpful staff. I may have been lucky but on my experience I would thoroughly recommend them.

wow sounds good nice-1 thanks
But what about other stuff like own tv in back of the seats films / games etc: like on Etihad and Emrates and Quatar?

as i DONT drink so the Alcohol doesnt interest me in the slightest

Thai Airways used to be a top class airline. I'm sure that the level of service provided is still top class, but they're getting left behind in all areas by the middle eastern airlines with their new planes and international staff.

I've not noticed that Thai are particularly cheap either. Things like free drinks are standard on the major airline's scheduled flights and you can always go and get a drink from the galley area on any flights if you ask.

Like Sandy, the alcoholic drinks don't really interest me but I do like to have my own individual screen and movies on demand.

There's no direct flights from Manchester, but I quite like the break as long as it's not too long.

Over the years I've flown with most of the airlines. Price and connections are a big deciding factor, but for the past few years i've mostly used the middle eastern airlines.

i'd never get an indirect flight to thailand, how cheap can u get, even when i fly with my family it's direct, 12 hours is enough on a plane never mind having a trip to the middle east thrown in as well

i used to only fly british airways, best service and on that can't be beat, thai airways are ok but a bit dated, eva suit me with their flight times and entertainment

ba has personal screen and as i remember scheduled showings of entertainment, thai airways has shared tv's in the aisle withshceduled showings, pita, eva has a personal screen and as i remember on demand, so if you've slept you can watch what u want when u want

all 3 airlines offer free food and drinks on board

if i had to fly indirect it would be klm or air france as they are straight to amersterdam/paris and then bkk but if you're flying solo best to go direct

sandy you would still have to arrive at least 2 hours, 3 hours before your non direct flight at manchester airport, then you've your traveliing time to that airport, then waiting time in middle east, then flight time from middle east to bkk and then you're stuck in traffic getting to your hotel, so essentially you're going all the way to the middle east twice just to save a couple of quid, that's not my idea of relaxing or a holiday especially for 50-60 quid total, seems really cheap, understandable if you was married with 4 kids, mounts up then but for a bachelor like you at your age seems cheap, do they call u charlie in los :)

thanks for info and exp: cheers interesting thankyou v much.

But ref: the time factor isnt about cheaper etc:
it isnt!!!
cheaper to do 2 flights
its not about cheapest really when your travelling 20 hours +

thats why im asking about service and tv / films etc:

and you Cannot travel from Manchester International as far as im aware direct to Thailand And its mad as the London Flights fly over Manchester coming back home to land in London wtf? :-(

so its still 2 flights Manchester to London whichever way you look at it
as i live in Bolton next to manchester lol

and BKKGYM great post Correct re; Middle eastern airlines my fav 3 and are all good ( Emirates, Quatar, Etihad )and as you say the 2 hour "break" to get off the plane and stretch your legs and do other stuff you cannot on a pklane is good as your half way there break.... breaks it up scuse the pun !!!

from `your` house to the airport ? = how long? 50 mins
from arriving at the airport in taxi ? car ? train whatever to boarding plane 2 to 3 hours 3 hours max (i always book my seat online)
then a "Direct" flight for YOU guys in London is 12+ hours flight from london heathrow on EVA or Thai 10hrs 45mins out 11hrs 30mins back
then you have to leave plane and que up at Damn Customes VBisa / passport control 1hr ish and then Collect bags and then get out of airport and then get a Taxi? 1hr ish or train? bus etc: to your hotel etc: hiow longs that in Bangers traffic??45minsto 1 hour
i will bet ya TAT3 its approx 18 to 20 even for you
i will bet ya a £10err

Sandy its just aswell im not a gambling or that would have been the easiest tenner ive ever made ... i have done it in about 16 hrs 30 mins (fair enough everything was nonestop and straight thru with not one hold up)

Re; flights i have a very good contact who ive used for as long as i remember and done them all .

EVA cheapest
Thai best 1st Class by a long way (treat like royalty).
only flown indirect once NEVER AGAIN that was a mix of emirates and Qatar ... both pretty much the same .

So Sandy yes it can be done quicker than you said so please feel free to put that tenner in a poppy sellers box or in a kids charity box .

P.s when you are lucky enough to fly first class the check in time is also reduced .

Peace out lol X

Flown on internal flights with Thai airways(Bangkok to Koh Samui) and they were fantastic,Even got a meal and it was only about am hours flight i think? anyway they were brill.
The flight was a long, long one for us again we did'nt go direct, but we had a travel agent sort it all for us(honeymoon).Quatar were very good and the films/games keep you awake! LOL.
If/when we go back i would try direct if poss/cheap enough and arrange things ourselves rather than through a agent.

I really don't rate BA,we flew with them to India & they were mince. The service on the flights was begrudged, they lost our bags (both ways) and the food was stinking. Loved Emirates and Quantas were superb. I flew from Manchester via Zurich with Cross Air (about 10+ years ago)to Bangkok and that was a fantastic. I heard that you can fly with Jet via India to Thailand but I'd rather walk than fly with Jet again.

until this year we have always flown with china air. No tv in seats or owt but the planes comfy enough. The flight times are so good though, 2 hour wait in amsterdam (flying from newcastle) then bangkok in 11 hours. then same home with just a couple of hours again in schipol. china air going back from bkk have a flight that leaves bkk at 2am and is 9.30am next day when you get to schipol and back in the toon for 1pm, makes all the difference with jet lag and adjusting to time. they are ridiculously expensive though.

hmmm your silence speaks volumes sandy or dont you want to see your tenner go ...

By the way just this afternoon booked another flight to old Siam ...£550 direct on Thai Airways(economy) end of March to a few days before end of April and yes it will be quicker than the 18-20 hrs you bet it would take me lol.

looking to get out there myself at the same time tat2, bit of song kran madness, have thai airways updated their planes yet? still got the telly in the aisle or personal sets now? they're coming back a couple of hundred cheaper than eva and ba at the minute

To be honest and without sounding like a twat its the first time ive flown economy in years , i just honestly think spending the extra money is worth it for a flat bed seat ... only doing it this time as im going with people who are doing it on a shoe string .

i flew business once long haul and found i had the worst jet lag ever.Took me 2 weeks to recover. when i come back this way normally can recover in 2 -3 days.

I hardly ever go back to uk now though , because i hate paying good money to sit on a plane for 14 hours, id rather they flew us all in like bunkbed thingies, you could porbably get more people in, no need for inflight movies and the like and coffee being served in the middle of the night.
