I'm looking forward to this - Hatton by KO R7
Mayweather is a good boxer but a cocky so and so and needs to be brought down by the Hitman.
Rumour is that what ever the outcome, Hatton vs Oscar in the UK - imagine how big this fight would be as well.

Finger crossed for Ricky.

One concern is should the bout go the distance. I really hope there are no discrepancies with the scoring.

This is a WBC title bout, and in accordance with WBC rules the contest should be conducted with 'Open Scoring'.

WBC 'Open Scoring' has the scores read at the end of round four, and round eight. This is to stop dodgy decisions - of which, especially in big-money contests is not uncommon.

Sounds great eh, HOWEVER, 'Open Scoring' is not being used in this contest???!!!

Lets hope Ricky does not need to rely on good judging!

LEFT BODY HOOOOOK!

Open Scoring Successful!

November 13, 2006

By Joe Koizumi

The adaptation of open scoring system was confirmed in the WBC convention in Croatia this October ( 2006). The very first was seen in a WBC world title twinbill on Monday in Tokyo, Japan. It seemed very successful as the crowd welcomed the announcement of the official tallies after the fourth and after the eighth.

Ricky Hatton will knock him out in the 10th.......after banging him about a bit! Mayweather underestimates Hatton (which is good!)
Also the fight is FREE ON RTL so if you can pick it up in England, tune into RTL at 0400 UK time to watch Hatton lift another belt :)

I have never been so excited - the last time I was nearly this excited was when I watched Prince Naseem as a kid on box office andthe Lewis v Tyson fight.

Mayweather may be a prat, but he's very skilled with excellent defence. He's not underestimating Hatton, it's just BS talk. He's won a close fight over a much bigger Oscar at light middle and has won many fights at welter.

Hatton admitted to not performing well at welter and moved back down to 140lbs, he weighed in 2pnds light. Hatton could pull it off, ppl have underestimated him before, but I think there's too much against him here. I'll have to go for Mayweather by decision or cuts stoppage. Would have been a better fight at light welter.

Hatton couldn't fight Oscar, he's too small.

I'll be off down to watch it in a bar down Sukhumvit in the early hours of tomorrow morning. Some people have advertised as 8am or 10am (Thailand time)....

Feel so gutted for Ricky, but he'll be back, and will be better than ever. Now he doesn't have the pressure of the 100% record to worry about. Hope he stays at Light Welterweight though.

PBF was just too good at times, very clever, very quick, and very slippery. After all the pre-fight trash talking, at the end of the fight he was a typical true sportsman, and a gentleman.

Hatton was apologising to his fans afterwards but he has nothing to be sorry about, he gave it his all, and got in with the pound for pound best fighter in the world.....no shame in losing to a man of PBF's calibre. One man had to lose just unfortunate it was Ricky :-(

The Hitman WILL be back!! :-)

Must be hard to swallow for some after all the talk of Mayweather being a frightened runner and to scared to stand and fight and what does that man go and do? he fights Ricky at his own game and beats him. A fighter dont allways fight the fight he wants to because its a buisness, but once in a while they get pissed off and sick of it and say fuck it im going to show up and fight toe to toe like you want me to and i will still give a good account of myself and maybe, just maybe it will dawn on you that im not as bad as you think i am. Well he did just that and shut the mouths of many and all detractors in the process. Some will say he used his forearm and elbow but we wanted a good old fashioned scrap and we got one. Great fight by two of the best fighters in the universe at that weight.Respect to them both for their heart and courage! How long before we hear a call for a rematch?? Such a great bout it will not be long i wouldnt think :-)

With all due respect, Ricky had it all against him, although it would have made no difference.
I thought in the early rounds the referee was a joke, splitting them every five seconds and warning Hatton for holding. Mayweathers inside game was based on holding and tieing up early on and that was not warned. The point deduction was right as he did attempt to strike when he shouldn't have, but if you were taking points for that, there were a dozen others if that was the standard.

That said, we all knew that Mayweather would be a nightmare. He is dirty on the inside with his elbows, but hey, who isn't. Bottom line, it was a frustrating night for Hatton and the stepping up of gears followed by the clinical finish was spot on. Once again the referee couldn't wait to step in, even earliar than that, but there was no argument at the end for me. the right result, based on performance. Hatton handled the defeat well, even when having to talk to that tosser Larry Merchant.

Absolutely gutted for Ricky, would have been so nice to see him hand PBF a good beating.

Can't take it away from PBF he boxed a very good fight....Just wish Ricky had used more body shots, he could have made more use of the inside work by digging his body punches in. When he lost the point he seemed to be looking for the big head shot and we all know PBF is a bit to cute to be caught with one of those. I do think that body shots wopuld have worked better.

Better luck next time.

hate to say this but i did see him gettin KOed and im off to the bookies after this to cash in my bet which had Mayweather winning by knockout...Badger had good odds on him winning by KO in the 10th too and collected a right wedge of money we wanted to cheer on Ricky but we talked for ages and just couldnt see him winning so bet on Floyd....ive said on other threads i think floyd is ace, i love everything about him and after watching all the 24/7 documentarys and build ups to the fight i love him more...i just wish it werent hatton he was handing out the beat down to last night, cos although hes not my favourite fighter i wouldnt rather have anyone else but him fly the flag for this country....To everyone who laughed at me (you know who you are) when i told them Hatton has underestimated how hard Floyd can punch and he will nail him i just wanna get in a quick i told ya so:):):) cos im off to cash in my money and collect loads off all my mates too, and your all broke cos ya lost it all ha ha....seriously tho like i said i wish it werent ricky takin the shots but at times it was a boxing masterclass from one of my fav fighters, just a pity it was a brit, and a top bloke on the end of it.......There will be no rematch whats the point??

Some Taxi cab driver told me this morning he heard on the news that there is already talk of a rematch, and that it will in England. PBF has said he'd love to fight in England, but come on I can't see that happening. Money for a start would probally make it a no go.

Even if there is a rematch the weight issue would have to be sorted and with Floyd being champ and Ricky challenging, Floyd need not come down to light welter, If they both fought at light welter though does anyone think a different outcome would happen? interesting to hear billy graham after fight sayin "I told you hes best at light welter" lets face it out of all Hattons performances his most difficult have happened at the heavier weight, collazo, urango, now floyd.

Not 100% sure if Urango was welter/light welter Liam, presumed it was welter as he tended to struggle in that fight. Although I really wanted Hatton to win I have to agree with you that Floyd is an outstanding fighter and judging by last nights ko can definatley bang as Ricky has been known to take a shot or two!

Posted: 2007-12-09 21:22:07
Ricky did very well, at times troubling PBF. If a bigger Oscar couldn't KO him, then Hatton didn't have much chance. Mayweather has exceptional skill.

There doesn't seem any point in a rematch, even at light welter. Ricky should retire, he has the whole country behind him and could have a nice future doing commentary or whatever else he chose. There's plenty of opponents for him, but his body has taken enough.

PBF should probably retire to, the only person left for him is Cotto. But it would be good too see him continue, you gotta love those interviews with his uncle!

Posted: 2007-12-09 22:24:38
There will allways be the question asked as to whether Floyd could match Cotto, and that will remain speculation until he fights him. The mystery was solved as to Hatton versus Mayweather. Both these guys previously fought at a lighter weight but felt the need to search out tougher fighters at the heavier weights to beat and be remembered for years to come long after they retire. There will allways be another name that comes along to bump them off the ladder. The new kid on the block allways turns up . for Kosta Tzsu it was Ricky Hatton. For Mayweather time will tell. Rocky Marciano got out of it before he became an old champ beaten by someone young and strong who had a smart manager.

sat and watched it without a Blink my overview for what its worth?
thought Ricky upset Floyds Rythym early rounds and noticed Floyd on his heals with not great footwork,
noticed Ricky ( saying this with a massooove amount of respect ) wasnt moving his head from as we all know floyds accurate straights, esp:his rights ! ouch,
touch chin Ricky tho:.... And Ricky didnt seam to Box but rather fight a little to much rush n push.. understandably after all this bulid up for him and both, what a massive bulid up and how long has it been from the announcement to battle ? a long time prep:
Noticed Maywethers body language on the stool for first 4 rounds a little negative, then round 5 he pulled away!
The Left hook was if you spotted it a simultaneous left hook from both fighters and obviously Floyds was better etc:

Like i said to over a dozen or more people whom asked me about this fight?
i answered similar to above
my head Win Floyd mayweather, my heart Ricky hatton, my gut?
couldnt / wouldnt say... :-(
I feel for Ricky and hes still a Great Britsh hero !
And for Floyd mayweather?
well take a look at his Face?
before the Fight?

After the Fight?

What a good week-end, stayed up late to watch K1 (shilt... what a monster, and those back kick?!?! wtf!!) then got up early and watched all opening fights including lacy's fight.
I have to agree with both Liam and Sandy on hatton-floyd.
being Italian didn't have the "must support" ricky but yet i feel like you guys that he has a massive heart and i really wanted him to do well, mayweather is easy to hate and you gotta love the brits for booing the american anthem in Vegas lol!!

Sandy put it to a T, mayweather was on the back foot for a while as hatton came in like a steam roller, but floyd is really on another planet! he really took his time and did what needed to be done, shoot from the outside, draw ricky in and tied him up.
Ricky tried and work the body but he never had the space because floyd never allowed any.
That finish was clinical, clean, fast and must have been a monster hook, having said that, Hatton was shaken with a power right early on and nearly went on his knees. mayweather didn't have a bruise.
nothing to say.... excellent atmosphere all around and as Liam said, a very clear winner and no much sense on a fight n.2.

They didnt throw a hook at the same time, Ricky threw his first but Floyd countered unbelievably. Probably the best split second of boxing ability I have seen in a long long time.

The ref not breaking them up wouldnt have made much difference. Floyd easily nullified Rickys inside game and had Ricky constantly tied up.

If Ricky had used the jab more then more than likely he would have had a face like the elephant man today as the vast reach difference wold have let Floys slip them easily and counter each time with his rapier right or left.

Basically I have to eat my words and say Mayweather was outrageously good in defence and attack and made one of the worlds best fighters look like a slugger in his first bout. My opinion on Mr Money has certainly changed for the better.

Why should Ricky retire, he didn`t take a huge beating and just got picked off with accurate shots. 99% of the best in any weight over history have lost a couple, that goes with the territory when you reach the top and are fighting similarly skilled opponents. Sugar Ray lost to Duran but then beat him in the rematch and went onto beat Hagler etc. Just one of those things, he can come back better and stronger.

Junior Witter will be calling him out but that would be a step backwards for Ricky. The WBC belt up for grabs may entice him though and it would be popular domestically.

Still would seem a backward step though.

With all that tape over there gloves i guess you couldnt tell if them gloves were the same weight cos this is exactly what a good old skool manager would do after all the jibba jabba that preceded this fight.

Cotto vs Mayweather would be worse than the Manfredo- Lacy fight.Maybe the Mosely Cotto fight was a clash of styles which can give a false impression but the impression remains long after the fight has finished.

What next for Hatton?
- Cotto
- Judah

Maybe take the Witter fight as a "relatively" easier fight then take on one of these two.

Gutted for Ricky, but I dont think just because he has a loss on his record he should retire. I think he has more to give and if he does want to retire go out on a win (even if it is against an easier opponent).

cotto and judah both welters and pretty big he wont be fighting them i dont think....Dave Hattons gloves are more of a punchers glove and mayweathers are favoured more by defensive fighters such as himself and winky wright...its a goodjob they dint have the same gloves cos hattons face would have been torn to shreds...most fighters on these shows now wear different gloves ive noticed it alot.

i didnt think Hatton fought well. He seemed to have lost the power he had in hes last fight, he looked like he was tickling mayweather. He seemed to have no real plan apart from lunge in with he's hands down. When he did get in close, he didnt do anything, none of those stinging body shots we saw against castillo. I think he showed he's a brawler and not much else, like to see him fight witter then retire and weather fight pavlik.

Posted: 2007-12-11 08:39:17
Ricky is normally very good at closing the distance to get to the right range to unleash them body shots, but against Mayweather he just seemed to steam in to the clinch. Floyd held that left elbow up high thinking Ricky might run on to it.I dont know whether Ricky was over-tense and the situation got to him.... maybe the glitz and glamour of the Golden Boy Promotions got to him as well.... Didnt hew have a 4 week whistle-stop tour round the world on private jets etc?
Sure, the trainers and dieticians did their jobs, but when crunch time came, it just didnt happen.

I dont think Ricky has lost power, I just dont think he carries that same punching power up to welterweight that he holds at light-welter. We saw that with Luis Castillo....sure, thats what he finished him with, but I think he just found the right spot rather than carrying an "all smashing" punch upto another weight division.

I spotted the glove thing when they were in the changing rooms, but assumed that they must have been "warm-up gloves" or something, before getting the proper ones put on and signed....but hey, I guess not.
Dave J: I thought you were gonna put a plug in there for the Affliction T-shirt that Ricky Hatton was sporting. :)

i think some people are being a bit unfair, he just lost to the best fighter in the world who holds titles in 5 different weights and has beaten people much bigger and stronger than Hatton, i think everyones expectations and all the hype got to everyone before hand...i told everyone before hand they are under estimating just how good Mayweather is....Hatton has had 43 wins and has fought basically the same way in every fight accept he boxed more against Tackie, and Urango...he tried his hardest to use his style what has won him all his previous fights and it just didnt work, Mayweather was too good simple as that...what else should he have done??? He couldnt out box him or or out wit him so think he had the right plan but mayweather is amzing and neutralized it.

Your words are good and true liam badco. He fought as good a fight as could be expected against Mayweather.I think the fighter against the boxer Scenario comes to mind, with one major difference between the two- The boxer can fight.

One thing that concerned/surprised me about Hatton was how long before the fight he started warming up.Easily an hour before a 12rnd fight he was getting stuck into his warm up and that will sap you of your strength more than one may think.

Funny that you mention Mayweather and Cotto in the same breath. When i first saw Mayweather on a highlight clip the only thing i noticed was his economical use of footwork/movement that made him seem untouchable.

As for when i first saw Cotto, I thought if i could have mastered any style it would be his. Seemingly unhittable coupled with devastating counter punching ability and never off balance. I just didn't see the fight with Mosley being what i expected. I will watch it again.

Spot on Liam, thats why I cant understand these calls for him to retire as though he is 38 and has lost the last 5 in the row!

He has just lost to a boxing miracle worker who was absolutely exceptional in his tactical and physical battle.

I think Floyd is a freak that can effectively counter any style and reprosuce against the protaganist wiht interest.

Ricky will now go and twat everybody at Light-welter where he is comfortable (he is very small in stature remember) and I guarantee in a years time when he had unified all belts in that division that the same people calling for him to retire will be banging on about wanting him to carry on forever.

The fickleness of the football fan is creeping into boxing, which was bound to happen in such a popular, well publicised fight.

Fickle- adj.

Characterized by erratic changeableness or instability, especially with regard to affections or attachments, and predictably accompanied by the throwing out of toys from the cot when things don't go well and according to your "expert opinion".

Had to look that one up eh Phil, and seems you hit the nail on the head :-)

When I said he should retire, it had nothing to do with his boxing ability. He's enormously popular and has many talents outside the ring. There's a heap of other things he could do without risking his head/health. He fights 100% the whole time and isn't scared to get hit, if he goes on too long this will take it's toll.

I think Mayweather's defensive style has alot to do with protecting his health, his been around old boxers all his life and doesn't want to end like his uncle.

We could have a robot amalgamation with the combined know how of Alf Ramsey, Franz Beckenbauer, Cesar Menotti and Enzo Bearzot and it still would not make any difference to the England team right now as the problem with our national game is SO much more deep rooted than a simple managerial change!

Anyway, I think I would like to see Hatton fight Witter next, just so he can put the cocky bugger in his place.

The mind set was the key as it always is Hatton lost to the better man,but emotions either works for you or not he got over emtional, look at him v other e.g Tyszu he was calm Floyd won both battles fair enough,Hatton v Malignaggi next year i reckon,Cotto will not beat Floyd, but Paul Williams beats the rest x

Could Williams stay at Welter for much longer though?

Seems to me he will follow the Hearns path through the weights with him being 6'1. Must be well hard making the weight at welter for each fight.
