Dan,

Sounds like a great event...will the preliminary bouts be 5 rounds or will it be 3 rounds and the final being 5 rounds?

Cheers,

Dan G

The fights will be 3 x 3 mins. I think it's enough to expect the champion to fight 9 rounds in one night. All these guys are top level and no-one will have an easy fight!!

Russel - at the moment Morgado is out and Wayne McCoy is in. Otherwise same as the poster (as per my post :) )

Who ever wins that tournament will be hanging out at the end.
Very hard path to the final.

Imran Khan, James France, Tim Thomas, Andy Thrasher, Kevin Harper ones to be avoided in first round.

Good luck fellas

Great idea / show and good luck in it etc: can i ask? is it day before weigh in? as some of those fighters are going up to 68 and some will have to come down!
and £10 grand is Great for the Winner / awesome in fact!
But do all the other 7 get paid anything?
Because each has to fight at least once, some twice and The Runner up in the Final the same as the winner `3` fight !!!!!!!!!!
Just curious ! cheers

What a year for '8 Man' tournaments. First the 'Superfly' in Liverpool and now this. This has the potential to be sensational!

Tim can bang like a privy door in a storm, Thrasher is in the form of his life, France is brilliant, will cause anyone trouble and I've just spent the weekend in Portugal with Harper who is the most focussed and determined person I've ever met. Add to that he's the most experienced and is rock hard, I reckon this tourny will be awesome.

If any of the Scots fancy going to this one can you message me on Facebook. Depending on numbers it might be worth putting on a bus as I've definitely got some mates who are up for it!

Updated poster with Robinson in...

Yes some of them are friends but I actually think that will make for better fights as they truly test each other and push each other harder.....

I was asked the same question when Bernise Alldis fought Eva Berben in Portugal (the two became good friends in Thailand). Will they really fight each other? Will they go for it?

Before and after they were good friends. Soon as the bell went that went out the window and it was a total war from start to finish - the best girls fight I have seen this year...

All the guys in the tournament are pros and I expect the same to happen again.... Expect even better fights for it...

in all fairness, i dont think trainor and the italian fight should be for a world title, the italian doesnt look anywhere near world level!!! damien hasnt had the best of results in the last few years himself either, being uk number three which is a good achivment doesnt really warrant a genuine world title shot in my eyes, kind of makes a great looking show a bit mickey mousy like all kick boxing shows! fighting for the world championship of birmingham!

Paul the Italians ISKA world champion i believe & Damien is IKF world champion, actually Damien has been on a good run he beat Kaewkla kaesamrit which I'm sure on another thread you said damien will get beat!!! He also went on & fought in France, & beat Said Youb for the WMC European title.

i dont think i said that raf, in all fairness kaewkla is good and damian beat him, i disagreed with the descisions on trainor and jut is it? and i thought howson beat him quite convincing although a very good fight, the italian is not world level have a look for yourself

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0A_wPz6p278

just with world title fights i feel they should have 2 fighters that are atleast world level if not the best in the world!

The MAD WMS titles are good stepping stones into WMS rankings to get a shot at eliminator for the proper WMS title but at that weight there is Jomthong Chuwatthana and Sarm A Tor Rattanakiat contending who are beasts. 2 wins for the english on these titles though definitely. Good luck lads.

Don't ask me to go into the differances it's all politics :)

Trainor
Posted: 2010-09-01 09:41:02
The WMC MAD titles are as Liam stated, also with these titles someone could win it today and it can fought again the very next day by two different people it's more like a prestige. Now to say I'm not credible enough is a little harsh yeah I'm ranked number 3 now but look at the division any 3 of us on any given day would beat the other.... and I've had some good results. I don't believe Howson won with ease (not knocking you mate just responding) but I he did win in my opinion by having a great 4th round also beating a ranked top 10 Thai then winning the WMC Euro title in Paris so none of these would qualifi me to for a MAD title fight?

Raf for a start the italian isnt ISKA World champ cause i am, well at 55 i am anyway so if he is what weight?

Damien you ugly bum lover you dont have anything to prove but tbf mate your gunna tear the italian kid a new 1 cause he aint looking good. Just as i hope my Franch opponent the same day is gash :)

I see 100% both sides of this, Damien as said nothing to prove, always had tough fights, fought alot of Thais and top uk and dutch etc, and Pauls point is well its a so called world title so should be a level playing field so to speak, i get where he is coming from aswell. But at the end of the day its 2 top uk lads fighting for a nice belt that you would think will boost them up,( but trust me its wmc and that aint gunna happen unless you smash a wmc top ten thai, i no ive been told all the stories from them but no matter how many thai's fought, beat or wmc belts won, no shot still.)

Regardless of politics i hope they both smash it cause i love ya both ;) x

Cheers mate I'm not taking the fight lightly as it's rare I fight at home plus anytime I have taken fights lightly they've become right wars lol oh he's not the ISKA but the WAKO PRO world champion. Just annoyed me to say I haven't done well the last few years when I've lost 2 fights in last two years 3 if you count my robbery in Hong Kong and except you both out of my weight division but I'm know for doing silly things like that lol, just cos I don't publise myself a lot doesn't mean I'm not busy.

Wish all the best mate for 11th and I'll catch you soon

Either andy thrasher or Wayne McCoy to win!
Damien Trainor to smash the italian just because he is world class!

Should be a good torny, am gutted that i cant be there to see it and Damien and Dean do the business.

the first chance I have had to comment on paulinthailand's comments.
Damien has more than proved himself worthy of fighting for the title.
I don't think people who have World and European titles should be included in the British rankings, they should be in the World or european rankings.
I also don't agree with 2 or 3 people having the same title at the same time.

Everyone has the own opinion thats fair enough but a man like Damien Trainor hasn't got shit to prove, there shouldnt be any debate about it. The guy has proved himself win or lose, Great fighter. Anytime he is on a bill in the UK I make sure I get down there. That is a true warrior I would pay to see every time. He doesn't get enough dues, the guy is a credit to the sport. Hail D.Trainor.

MCOTTO If you read Pauls post again he isnt actually saying Damien has anything to prove and i no for a fact he rates him as a fighter. What he is really getting at is he doesnt think that Damiens opponent is a a worthy one to be fighting him, and for the title. I think thats what he is getting at and people are mistaking it for him having a pop which i really dont think is the case what so ever.
I agree with Paul, at the end of the day i think Damien is far and away a much better fighter than the Italian boy, i honestly think this fight isnt going to go any further than 3 rounds imo. But regardless of that Damien is a pro, and as a fighter it isnt upto you who you fight, the promoter gets the guys in and if your a fighter like mr T is you basically want to fight and dont give 2 shits who it is, your there to do a job and thats that it has nothing to do with Damien how good this guy is so lets just get behind him and all the lads and watch him smack this guys teeth all over brum :) lol.
MCOTTO

Andy, I was't singling out Paul's comments. If I was I would have called him out by name quite blatantly. My point was in made in General terms, on a whole over the years I don't think he gets his proper dues, simple.
In regards to Damien's opponent I totally agree with you, it is quite obvious he isn't in Trainor's league. But at the end of the day don't matter, if there is an opponent in front of you just decimate him, as you well know yourself.
paulinthailand
Posted: 2010-09-03 05:21:19
it is quite obvious he isn't in Trainor's league.

and that is why it shouldnt be for a "world title", this one keeps going round in circles and people dont listen to what is said!

You can only beat who's put in front of you and obviously the italian believes he can win, and will have trained hard, or he wouldn't have taken the fight. And with Damiens past record of drawing lunatics who come to prove a point, i won't be writing anyone off lol. That said Damiens trained really hard and looks brilliant at the moment so he's more then ready. Same for dave and Jay-r.

The tournaments really exciting, every fight in that could top a show but i'm gonna say McKoy! Or McKormick...or thrasher...or thomas lol. Cool to see liam in it too! What a show haha.

Good luck to Dean too, really looking forward to his fight and hope he does the biz! So skilled and a top guy!

Paulinthailand you wrote Damien hasn't had the best results of late! In his last 9 fights his won 6 beating a champion from France and Portugal, destroying juk, beating a ranked Thai and also winning a wmc European title! Paulinthailand get your facts right before you start making statements!

Paulinthailand I ko'd the portugese champion followed by the French champion then fought Andy then fought in HK then juk 1 (you believe I didn't win many do) so a rematch was set. You said you didn't agree with the desicions with the juk fight so I'm guessing you mean both if that's the case then you haven't seen the second fight at all then. I fought the Dutch lad bad night but have come back to beat keawklaa (last checked was ranked 6th rajadamnern) then won the wmc euro title so what 5 fights have I lost?

damian i dont hate you, i dont know you, that was a mistake in desicions, i only seen the first, thought you lost. i have been told that the dutch guy could have gone either way, like you say you beat the thai lad, good fight correct descision, not seen the wmc title fight. your lad told me 6 out of 9 wins where as two of those six could hae gone the other way so could have been 4 out of nine! im letting this one die, if any of you guys want to have a word about it come see me at the show.

lol at paul again mate you just ended me with that.

Adrian i love Damien but i no for a fact he himself wil tell you that some of those 9 havent been the best opponents, it isnt a dig or a critisism and he knows that, as said before you can only fight who's put in front of you, none of this that Paul or anyone else has said is a pop at Damien but at the Italien opponent, put it a different way, Deans fighting a Thai yes? for a World title, and the Thai was ranked number 5 at raja in 2006 at 52kgs i believe not sure what he is now but regardless has fought top top top level, then you go from that to an Italian who lets be honest doesnt look too great on his youtube clips, thats all folk are saying. Damien is a legend, he is who i first ever looked at when i started and thought wow he's ace. But cause i love the guy doesnt mean i cant think his opponents shit every now anad again, and it really isnt often. It happens to EVERYONE we have all fought people who are awful i will openly say my last opponent was shockingly bad, couldnt have ever beat me, but was tough and durable but got spanked, by rights shouldnt have been in there with me, but it wasnt for a "world
title" and thats the point trying to be made.

Oh and MCOTTO i never said that you had singled Paul out? not at all in fact just stated that he was making a different point that people think.

No worries mate but just for the record the Dutch lad beat me, lost in hong kong and to Andy. Now Hong Kong was a blind robbery so let's say I won that and juk beat (still think I won lol) as correct judging and all that has been brought up. So hence 6 out of 9. Enjoy the show :-)

For the tournament, my favourites have always been either Thrasher or Harper. As always the draw will be decisive though PLUS...I hear Dan has something really quite interesting up his sleeve regarding the draw itself (more details to follow shortly, I guess, lol).

That having beem said, I'm still eating humble pie from the last time I doubted the tournaments newest entrant, Scottish Champion Gordon Smith.
Exceptionally fit, tough, has a great understanding of scoring, kicks like a mule (fast and frequent), never been cut, never been ko'd and never been stopped. Trained and fought in Thailand for months he will be a nightmare for anyone.

(Just to throw in some trivia here...on Gordon's last outing he dismantled British Champion John Douglas who had previously beaten fellow tournament entrant Liam Robinson)

It really is impossible to pick out a defenite winner for the tournament.....The K-1 Worl Grand Prix in 2001 when Mark Hunt won is a perfect example, no one thought he would win and he did. Especially when you have factors like injury replacements, fatigue and gameplans on your hands....

I'm going for Wayne McKoy to win. He's a very tough, durable, hard hitting fighter with sound technique and I think it'll see him through the 3 fights. He has previous tournament experience and will be able to use this against his opposers.

Is Mark Beale vs Leigh Edlin still scheduled on the undercard?
This is a good approach for Leigh to establish himself and give him a solid position in his weight division. If he is prosperous on this occasion it would guarantee bigger fights of which he requires.

As it was mentioned, I look forward to Dean James and Andy Howeson 2 in the future. I think it will be the same result, Dean on points again. It was great to watch Dean with his great kneeing techniques and his ability to apply his scoring knowledge to his advantage to dominate the fight in the later rounds.

80_B Wayne isnt in the tourny anymore from what i hear, been replaced now by Kerrith Bella and as far as me and Dean again do also fancy putting your money where your mouth is like Wainey has?? Another £200?? :)

That's unfortunate that he is no longer in the tournament. I will have to reevaluate and come to a new decision on who will triumph.

AndyBC I must inform you that due to my religious beliefs i can not and will not participate in any gambling. I love Thaiboxing for what it is and enjoy attending as many shows as possible. I no longer compete but believe that over the years watching this martial art develope my opinions and predictions tend to be very accurate. The observations I have made from Dean's previous outings led me to believe that he would win the first encounter and that being the result. I still believe Dean James will remain number 1 in his devision for the foreseeable future, also after the rematch with your good self.

Maybe you having several fights in a close space of time contributed to the loss against Dean and you having 3 consecutive losses(Although I hear one may have been of malfeasance and completely out of your control). I hope that your training goes well if the fight is to occur, and you both have no disturbances in your training camps or any fights in passage to upset the result.

Good luck for the future and I'll hopefully see you at the NIA.

Peace be upon you.

80_B Thats fine on the bet front, and everyone's entitled to there opinion right or wrong. Ive made no excuses for Dean winning the first fight, its totally fine, yes i was gutted of course i was, but the people close to me and who no me (and im hoping dean himself) no that wasnt me anywhere near my best, he won fair and sqaure and there's no bad blood or anything like that, love the guy 1 of the nicest people in this sport full stop. Lost to rungravee again fair and square no probs raja ranked Thai's can do that to anyone, but its good cause this time round im the underdog and thats what i prefer and when im at my best, i just hope this fight gets sorted asap so i can prove everyone wrong ;)

I'm very sorry if you have mistaken my post as a personal attack. It was never meant for me to cause you to react so defensively and for this I apologise unreservedly. I would never want to offend or hurt anybody in any way unless in self defence.

Remember I am just an observer and have no prefrence on who I want to win. My assessments will be the same again on previous performances and behaviors and in this case a clash of styles. When my judgments are correct I never gloat, rejoice or celebrate. It is a personal satisfaction from within that I feel I know the sport well and continue to learn more from my background, research and observations.

I wish you well in your forthcoming matches and hope this underdog status that you have labled yourself with, will give you the phycological edge that you desire.
Peace be upon you.

Farhad
Thank you for you pleasant comments, they are most kind.
It would a pleasure to meet with you. I hope that our seating arrangements can permit this to happen.

Yawn why do you 2 folk bore me so much? You can both sit there and do your slagging off cause we both love it and laugh at you, espeicially the way neither of you have a profile and are nothing to anyone, if you had balls and a life you would have a profile so people would no that you can speak your mind openly without shitting yourselfs, End of convo right there really, you obviously no who me and liam are so if you both have a problem by all means come and do your slagging face to face next time you see us although we both no along with everyone on this site you have no bollocks so never gunna happen, get lifes and fuck off and stop trying to cause problems that dont exsist. Ie me and dean, and liam and imran. Which also have fuck all to do with this thread.

Dan let it be known i dont care have any problem with Dean, yourself of this fight or anything. All i want is what is owed to me and thats a rematch that we all agreed to when the fight was discussed in the first place. So all i ask is you stand upto that mate you no that. Good luck with the show and to Dean and Damien smash em up boys.

And J&J the 2 troll doctors get back under your bridges boys cause nobody gives 2 shits about you :)

Craig Dickson, Training in thai boxing for a little over a year and fighting for 10 months lost his quarter final. On two days notice he took his first A Class fight at this show and was in no way outclassed. Obviously the lack of notice meant that he didn't feel fit, but when opportunity knocked he answered.

I don't know many fighters that would have done it. Proud to have done his corner. What more can be said!!!

Posted: 2010-09-12 11:38:19
The first two rounds of Harper V Robinson were edged by Harper, the last was a massive round for Liam which IMHO gave him the fight. It is quite possible under MT scoring to lose 2 rounds and win 1 and win the fight, it depends on the margin of the win in the rounds.

Would love to see 5 rounds rematch between them.

Any how, well done Liam and Obviously Dean James was awesome again.

Shame about the lack of any real information from the promoters as to what was going on with pull outs etc, and id like my £5 back for the programme as most of it was not relevant.

Despite changes to the line-up, Dan and his team put on another excellent show, well done mate. I missed a number of fights but the ones I did see were a great advertisement for Muay Thai.

I was pleased with Pindi’s (Liam’s gym) performance (as was Liam) in the opening fight of the night. He fought a technically competent, clinical and controlled fight to win against a very game opponent –a really good performance for only his third fight.

Well done to Andre Kotsur an excellent win in a weight class above his usual fighting weight. He did well to beat a strong and skilful Thomas McCormick (Both really nice guys). Despite dropouts, the tournament proved really interesting and at times a little controversial, which added to the drama. I didn’t see all the tournament fights, but the ones I watched were really interesting and entertaining.

I was really proud of Liam (Robinson) - both in choosing to fight Kev (Harper) and then again in the fight. Liam showed something of his real ability in round three against Kev who a great fighter and a seasoned warrior. I really hope this is a stepping stone for Liam to really shine against the best UK fighters in the division now.

Damien did really well to control a very game and really awkward opponent who was scoring well early in the fight. Damien took charge with some nice skills in the last two rounds to secure victory.

I couldn’t be more proud of Dean (James), who put in a simply outstanding performance and his best to date, against a very tough opponent who had a massive heart. Dean delivered a non-stop barrage of fast and hard long knees mixed in with sharp kicks and elbows. After pulling ahead in the second, Dean completely dominated using a range of weapons although it was the knees that did the damage to Giang Hoang. I was surprised Giang managed to beat the count (his second to that point) after getting dropped but his ribs had gone a few seconds later. Dean is improving with every fight and was stronger and sharper in this fight than in previous fights. He is definitely improving all the time but has the potential to develop so much more...definitely the beginning of an exciting journey for Dean, Pra Chao Suua and British Muay Thai.

It is quite possible under MT scoring to lose 2 rounds and win 1 and win the fight?

If harper won the first 2 rounds, and liam won the last how would that give the fight to liam?
Even if it was a massive round is it not still scored 10-9 if no knock down occured?
TonyMyers
Posted: 2010-09-13 02:44:34
While I am not prepared to comment on any of the actual decisions awarded in any of the fights on the night, in Muay Thai it is possible to lose two rounds and win a three match, just as it is possible to win a fight in a five round match yet lose the majority of the rounds. It all depends how close the rounds are, or how big a boxer wins particular rounds.

An analogy used by top Thai judges is that judging Muay Thai is like judging a marathon or foot race, in the sense that judges should consider the overall fight rather than just counting the number of rounds a boxer wins. Boxer 'A' can edge several rounds, but boxer 'B' can "overtake" by winning other rounds by a bigger margin. One of the main reasons the 10 point must system was first introduced many years ago in international boxing (late 1960s), was to avoid awarding fights to a boxer by just counting the number of rounds they won. While in practice, international boxing is now almost a binary system unless there is a knock down and count, Muay Thai applies this principle more liberally.

In Muay Thai, judges need to consider by how much boxers won particular rounds, so they award the fight to the boxer who won the fight. This has been debated numerous times on this forum and if it needs to be debated again, it would be better done on a different thread.
