Feking rehab, what a load of twaddle.

Everyone does that sort of booze in a session, in every single city UK wide.

The drugs is his choice, and again, plenty in most clubs in the UK will do more than that on a Sat night, then go back to work as normal on a Monday.

If he needs to sort himself then so do a vast percentage of the country, ridiculous, not as if he was caught in the toilets with his belt round his arm tapping his veins.

Anything to sell a story, the media is a joke best not to read it. Hate how they are so two faced, its not a scandal its reality, going to rehab is just trying to save face. He is mates with the gallaghers, should take a lead from liam when dealing with the press on the issue.

pretty lame, like dean said i too suspected its been going on for ages, went to an after party in vegas and he looked off his head, whatever, hes finished fighting, hes not hurting anyone. i was at a party in london on saturday and this is tame compared to what people were getting upto there, in the open! out of the party i would say 50-60% were getting on it out of maybe 50 people. its a very common part of uk culture these days! not saying its good but it just isnt that bad!

Thinking about it though, he is still heavily involved in the sport with promoting and managing, so he actually should be brought to task.

Not a great example to his young fighters who look up to him is it?

He actually has a greater responsibility than just to himself and his family.

What I can't get my head around is why does the media go to such far lengths to take people down?

Ricky Hatton nicest bloke on the planet.

or

Ricky Hatton drug shame

Thinking in media circles obvious which headline will sell more papers. They dont care who it is or how much smoke they blew up there arse in the past. Its what will get them the most news in the present.

Its the insecurity and competative nature in peoples attitudes that creates a nasty blend. If you dont like it, dont read it.

All the red-tops are full of dragging people down. I would hazard a guess that 90% of storys in these papers are negatively based.
The other 10% is building people up, to put them on a pedistal, to then sensationalise their downfall.....

Either way, its still tomorrows chip-papers.

HAWKMAN
Posted: 2010-09-14 11:40:05
keep your friends close and your enemies closer?

I think he was already over the moon. In orbit and heading off to space on a rocket.

Maybe he wouldnt have had a clue that his life was heading off the rails until he had it spelt out before him in the redtops?

Family are often the last people to accept and admit that the person they care for is all fucked up and that things have to change by their intervention. Parents/family can be totally useless at this.

He s public property, he made his fortune on that basis and people will always make money out of him.
Public Embarrassment doesnt ususally kill people. Betrayal.. most cases not, except in the case of Julius Caesar and others.
Drugs and booze will eventually permanently harm him.

Rumour has it he put £20k down on a local MMA guy to win. Apparently they had a 'beluckytote' style betting booth at the show. Ricky went in and put £20k down on this lad to win and they closed the bookies as it was going to skint them.
Sure enough, the lad won and Ricky walked out with substantial amount..... Later that night..... well.... the rest is history!

Watch this space for "The Big Comeback - 2011"
Ricky fighting a european champ, and being re-embraced as 'the peoples champ' again.

Anyone seen the film with Mickey Rourke called The Wrestler?

This could potentially be the same story, over a different sport.... Thats the point I am making. :)
ReeceChristy
Posted: 2010-09-16 09:31:29
It's too different mate. Wrestling and Boxing are so different. The training and life style is different. You can wrestle for years, Hulk Hogan is still going and he is old.He isn't as good as he was back in the day when no one could beat him but he still fights now.
The film the wrestler was just a film and that man didn't really exist.
HAWKMAN
Posted: 2010-09-16 09:32:12
Tiger Woods was a golfer

actually Mickey Rourke in real life was a potent reference, a man who lost everything he had and was living in a trailer due to his issues, prior to that film.

Dont underestimate the power of the mind- what i understand is how low it can sink you....then how high may it take you?
The latter is still my quest. ive had depression for 20 years on and off, been in and out and on every med.I dont feel stigmatised at all, but the only people who would never admit to anyone was my own family!
Everyone else could see it. Same with ricky hatton. you can judge me if you like, but what is sanity exactly anyway?

The brain is a complex organ of multiple chemical balances, same as the kidney or liver. In fact those 2 organs play way more part in keeping you alive.

I take comfort now in philosophy and realism. As high as we soar is as low as we can fall.
Last thing those at their bottom ebb is others comparing them to those gone before, George Best , Janis Joplin examples ad infinitum.... Every story is personal.

Everything has its origin. rickys depression and addiction did not start after his boxing retirement. You need to go back years to find out why his dedication (dependance) and his lapses (compensation) maybe this goes back to when he was 4 /5/6 years old?

Yes i think he s twat because of his press conference with PBF, but didnt before. And i dont think he s a twat because of his addictions. I can understand his failings.

Coke is rife these days wherever you go, suppose its only natural it was gonna find him sooner or later.

As to why, my best guess in his case would be boredom, nothing to do nowhere to go. In the last few months he seems to have been living his life through his brothers career, who doesnt have half his ability and its sad to see. He Should hav took the big send off at coms or wembley this year and put a few of his demons to bed, Very upsetting watching his mam and dad on tele last night. His dads a smashin fella, shook my hand once in Harvey Nicks about 3 years ago.

As for the 'its only coke' bollocks, dont be such a muppet. Coke wrecks lives, ruins familys. Not big and not clever.

This is a great shame! Everyone is forgetting what he put into boxing and all the Charity work he has done. His actions are only physically harming himself so his great deeds should not be forgotten. I know it must be hard for his family and fans but deep down he is a good guy and can recover from this.

celebrities doing work for charity does my tits in
if theyre so concerned give all their fucking money to an orphan
like angelina jolie and her UN goodwill ambassador status. those poor african kids dont want good will, they want a good feeding a place to live safely, clean running water and an education.
And like David Beckham turning up at Live aid 2. That cunts missus spends more on shoes in a week than most africans will have to eat in a year
just cos theyre famous telling everyone to give money to charity and setting an example.
what better example than to give half of your 10 million a year to the needy?
im sure he could scrape by on the balance 100k per week...

Yer missing a vital point Hawkman .... the celebs are there to draw attention to the charity in question. I've been to quite a few chrity sportsmans dinners, the best by far and away was the one I watched Ricky Hatton at. He gave his time, merchandise and his own money to the event and was there the whole evening unlike some 'celebs' who turn up for an hour or so.. He didn't need or have to do it, but nonetheless, he did.
He also doesn't spout vociferously the charity work he does as opposed to some plastic celebs who mention 'Their charity work' in every other sentence.
Hatton was a great ambassador for British Boxing, shame he's let himself and others down by succumbing to the marching powder. Everyone makes mistakes, apart from one person and they put him on a cross !!!
He's only human and obviously has weaknesses, so I for one, hope he quits the habit and gets back to being the bloke I met on that particular evening .... extremely funny, approachable and basically, very down-to-earth.

drawing attention to a charity for a cause and drawing attention to the root of a cause though are 2 different things

Posted: 2010-09-22 10:11:14
Not sure what you mean Hawkman ??? Hatton DID draw attention to a particular cancer charity cause on the night I attended, and made over £100K on the night.
How could he possibly draw attention to the "Root of the cause" ?? He's not a Macmillon (sp) nurse, or a cancer therapist ??

HAWKMAN
Posted: 2010-09-22 11:09:38
nah fair enough, good for him, but i dont think any drug company will ever try to cure cancer. there's too much money in treating it. Billions in research.

i am thinking charities raising money for landmine victims - how about celebrities mounting campaigns against landmine companies.
Check the brakes on yer mercedes though.

Or instead of blinding people to throw money at african poverty charities - who face it you could throw trillions at them and it has been done over the last 50 years none of it will ever solve the problem. How about dealing addressing the cause of extreme 3rd world poverty, which is extreme 1st world wealth.
Celebrities wearing pink ribbons hasnt cured aids and never will. "Lets raise aids awareness" well lets start by telling the catholic church get the f*ck out of poor countries with their no condom message. etc etc

British Boxing Board of Control had chosen not to revoke his license to promote, I reckon the rehab thing is just a media stunt so as to remain a 'role model' "look kids Ricky knows he has done wrong, and he's putting it right" blah blah blah, I bet he couldn't wait to get out of priory haha.

The story about the body builder hitting him is true, but tainted, and exaggerated along the way (chinese whispers!), a friend of mine was there and apparently the guy was a bit of a tool and was trying to provoke Ricky by claiming he had jumped an imaginary queue to the fruit machine (how many of us have ever seen a queue for a fruit machine?), when Ricky refused to move along the guy started mouthing off etc then cracked him IN THE SIDE OF THE HEAD (not face to face - so brave!), he fall to the floor but shot back to his feet and chose not to react...He is former world champion for christ sake, current professional manager/promoter, and has a fecking MBE!!! as if he would start scrapping in the pub!!!!
