100% recommend petes shows, easily one of the best shows I have fought on! Great match-making, well run with the best officials! Get your names put forward!!
This is one junior show I would recommend to any budding champion wanting to fight or watch some of the best junior fighters up and down the country the last show was brilliant and I'm sure they're going to get even better in the future!!!
I also think that due to the success of the first Celtic Challenge places for the show will quickly fill up!!!
connor butler is only just 13 and weighed in at 34kg for that fight with evan... couldnt understand why it was for 37kg max on the poster of ev n con it said 35kg max taa :)
think ye might be right mark, 1st 1 was excellent. nice atmosphere for the kids in the morning and giving them the taste of competing in a big show. i know pete will look after those that have supported him from the beginning as this show will just get bigger and better
You wanna stop putting sherry on yer cornflakes Robbo.....ridiculous ideas of him wearing R#@*ers shirt.....inside the ring hes yours... outside the ring im still king prawn....and its nothing other than the wearing of the Green!!lol
tht would really help me out liam lol scoosh is a rangers fan and i'm season ticket holding member of the unrepentant ;) so training him for a fight with a fellow member of th unrepentant will be weird lol
jst jesting scot will be more than ready for his biggest challenge to date. felt he really done well on satrdy for his 1st head contact fight
I'd love to get Jade Kelemen onto this show she is only small but had about 25 interclub fights and four decision fights 2W 1D 1L her weight is 54kg and she turned 15yrs old the other month.
aye :) i know i said i wouldnt have as many on again but they all train hard and want to fight and they try to put on a good show, i just have to cut myself in half to get them all sorted on time lol

Rons report on the show is set out below!!!!
A WEEKEND’S MUAY THAI: BARNSLEY AND HEYWOOD
Pete Spensley had a vision – or, to be less dramatic, an ambitious plan: to run a regular series of dual events, each of 30 junior Muay Thai matches during the day, followed by an adult show in the evening, with fighters from the full Celtic fringe competing with the English for Celtic Challenge Championships, plus a few British championship fights sanctioned by the WRSA. He also had the inspiration that winners of Celtic Challenge belts must defend them within the next two shows. I’m not sure what he’ll do about injuries or even those who just don’t return the belt (send the heavies round?), but the idea is certainly a good one: one of the weaknesses of Muay Thai is how rarely titles get defended.
And how did the first of these promotions, the Battle of Barnsley I on July 2nd, work out? Of course it didn’t match Pete’s original blueprint, but then these things never do, and it came pretty close. The Celtic fringe had thinned, no Welsh, only two Irish, no Isle of Man, but there was a strong Cornish representation (Touchgloves Gym) and the Scots invasion was truly impressive: at one time it seemed every customer at my Hero Sporto stall was wearing an Eclipse gym t-shirt and Carnage and Douglas were out in force, too.
The evening programme became an extension of the daytime junior programme. It was the eighth fight before the term ‘men’ as distinct from ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ was used, but this only served to emphasise the quality of talent in the early teens (and just before) age-group. The number of fights tallied well with Pete’s original idea, something like 26 and 17, and there were a half dozen WRSA British title fights.
The Metrodome is a perfect venue for such an event: leaving aside such questions as ease of motorway access, it offers a large, well-equipped arena that somehow doesn’t look bleak with a small attendance. During the day numbers were relatively low, but the atmosphere was pleasant, if low-key – and probably a deal more upscale than the youngsters had experienced before.
I’m not the best person to comment on the day’s fights. Apart from the distractions of running a stall, I don’t have the knowledge of Muay Thai techniques to judge a fight with nine-year-olds. My main impression was of surprising maturity and competence from the fighters, though of course you always get occasional bizarre behaviour with youngsters. I felt sorry for the 20 kg fighter (20 kg – how tiny is that?) who stomped furiously and tearfully out of the ring when he didn’t get the verdict and, even more so, for the macho youth who made a dramatic ring entrance, began the fight with aggressive confidence, then embarrassingly – and with more tears – made no attempt to get up when thrown vigorously in the first minute (in fairness, the explanation of an injury may have been true).
My favourite fighter during the day was, as so often, a loser. Tommy of Golden Team (no surnames in the daytime session) was the soul of aggression from the start, but Kailan of WTBC proved excellent at, first, defence and then counter-attack. Tommy’s reaction was to keep on attacking and that, with Kailan’s precision, made for a most enjoyable fight. When Tommy took a standing eight count in Round 5, he was totally exhausted, but it didn’t stop a final wild attempt at attack. That was for a WRSA title and something of the standard was maintained in other British title fights, Scott (Eclipse) starting and finishing strongly enough to wear down the accomplished Isaac (Touchgloves) and Connor (also Eclipse) keeping on top of Koby (Golden Team) without removing the bounce from him.
What struck me most in the evening was the degree of coolness and balance, the variety of techniques, in the best young fighters, even at weights below 30 kg and going up to the early 40s. Eclipse tinies Corey McLachlan and TJ Everett were both very canny in victory, whilst Joe Tomlin (Higginshaw) against JP Gallagher (Douglas) was a classic match, with Tomlin always winning. The standard of professionalism in the young was best illustrated by Evan Jay (Benfleet), badly mauled by the outstanding Connor Butler (Sasiprapa) early on. Evan could easily have quit after Round 1, but he seized his limited opportunities and stayed in the fight without threatening to win. Oddly enough, the first crash-bash fists-dominated winner of the evening was female, Vicky Wilkinson (Manchester) demolishing Caitlin Faulds (Eclipse) in the 1st round, though it should be said Caitlin was a late replacement.
Another fight to interest me was a tough scrappy points win for Thom Willock (Touchgloves) over Andy Hughes (Spartans). Thom had originally been matched with Jake Jenks, the talented Salford youngster whom Billionmore is proud to sponsor. Jake has all the qualities Billionmore wishes to encourage – except the ability to win! He first caught the eye in a flamboyant losing performance (see the report on the Battle of Bolton) and followed that up with another defeat, also at Bolton, a verdict which went beyond controversial to totally inexplicable.
The Jenks-Willock match-up was cancelled after misunderstandings about weight
nice write up from ron, glad to see mine and everyone elses fighters getting the recognition they deserve for putting on a great show of skill and heart with no shortage of ringcraft.

Hi Everyone new to AX Forum, can anyone recommend any hotels close to the Metrodome, coming up from London with family and friends on 3rd of September for the Celtic show so your help would be appreciated. Thanks
ACE! The holiday inn Barnsley, Dodworth 55 pounds a night or premier inn 29pound a night ;) im sure! stayed in holiday inn last time was really nice!;)
good luck with the show pete, looks like you found a good combination here and should go very well, barring work i hope to pop down there is some cracking bouts.
Ryan Rudkin is a very nice guy. If people make nice videos like that about him then so be it.
Its such a small world, one of my social mates mentioned training with Ryan in Cambridge when he was a teenager. He had an accident and Ryan went to visit him in hospital to see how he was.
All i can say to that is "top man!"
Ryan, if you are reading this,... Adam Carl (ginger lad) sends his regards!
george mann v jake nathan lawry .... GLASGOW V CORNWALL .. good luck to both boys fighting for a celtic belt ... cant wait to come see this fantastic show ... well done pete agaon for organising a huge junior show for all uk jiniour fighters... bring it on......... the after show party is awesome xxx
i've got 9 or 10 on this so i'm a couple down from the last show but, which will give me a chance to watch some of the fights
cant wait to see my guys, some making their debuts as well and some fighting for titles. think we may need to invest in more display cabinets for the gym :D
looking forward to see Scot "Scoosh" Ferguson take on Dan McGowan in what promises to be a cracker between 2 of the countrys best, both are on a bit of form with scoosh beating brad newlands, isaac ashley and kain o'hanlon (was undefeated and 4kg heavier) in his last 3 fights
TJ "the force" Everett will do what he does but is adding a real nasty streak and seems to be taking on a bit of Rungravee about what hes doing just now
Taylor Rae i'm hoping is matched after putting on a very dominant display in the 1st installment (she will fight a boy of the same experience and age)
Alisha Rae still on a learning curve but is ever improving and will hopefully show what she can do very well
iain and james hendry will be making another appearance and will get what they deserve when fighting both are freakishly fit
Neil Hanton and Kieran Phee are making their 1st appearances on th CCC, keiran having his 1st fight
and last but far from least is my bhoy Corey "the Flying Squirrel" McLachlan having his 1st tilt at a british title against Kian Flanagan. Corey was, for me, a star in the last show with his best performance to date from his entrance to his ring craft and skill

Best of luck with the show Pete the last one was brilliant! Who is the 55kg female fighter yu wanted to match for the British title? And what title is it?

To day/night in barnsley thanks for haveing the lads on pete enjoyed by us all none more so than shiffty kyle and warren cheers x
Really good to see Peter from Spartan again (cheers for the $1500 , you mug :P)
Great to catch up with loads of people from all over the place.
Well done to Colin from Evolution , excellent fight with the powerful and exciting Gavin Rodgerson!!!
JimmyChoo
It is called Celtic challenge because the Celtic people were the original inhabitants of England.
The whole idea is to honour the great Celtic Warriors who battled against the Saxons, the Vikings and the Romans.
LOL Dan, didnt see you there!!!
Out of the kids, i was impressed with yourself and Connor Butler. I sadly missed Ricky Sewell and Pete told me he is incredible!!!
Thanks for having us Saturday Pete it was a fantastic show I could'nt make the evening one so only saw the youngsters fighting but the juniors coming through the ranks now are getting better and better there was some great talent on display Saturday!!!

well done with the show pete, theres not another show in the country that lets kids show off their abilities in a great venue like that, so thanks for letting them compete :D
i was so proud of all my fighters, who showed that they are not only capable of competing with the best but also beating them.
1st up we had TJ everett in the 8fighter tourney, he was drawn against hannah from greenway. she was skilled and would have done very well if not in against tj in the 1st rnd. tj won comfortably on points. he then fought jack from semtex and won comfortably on points.
in the final he was made to dig deep and find something he hasnt needed for a long time. he was in against kailan from wigan, who started the fight very strongly with well timed kicks and turns in the clinch. with tj losing the 1st half of the fight he knew he had to up his game and he did coming on strong with clean kicks and straight knees landing cleanly through the middle.
TJ wins on points, some not very happy but he won 4 and 5 clear enough to negate the 1st half of the fight that kailan had won.:D
little james hendry finally got to fight some1 his own size and weight adn proved what a great wee fighter he is by winning the celtic title :D
iain hendry fought very bravely against a much older and heavier oppo but did well enough to be proud of his efforts:D
poor taylor ray was asked to do a demo with a girl 10kg heavier from peel, but she was determined to fight so asked for it to be a fight. she tried hard but the size difference was just too much for her but got presented with her belt from the last show so that made up for it :D
alisha rae on the other hand had a great fight with a girl from caged steel. finally displaying her talents that i know she has, now she HAS to show it more often. :D
Kieran Phee made his debut on the show and put in a good shift against kenzie from bad co, really enjoyed watching this fight as both kids showed some nice mt skills but kenzies experience paid off in the end by taking it on points :D
neil hanton did well in a tough fight with tyler from walkden, again the more exp. tyler being more clver about his scoring throughout but a good exp and showing from neil :D
in the evening show we had scoosh ferguson against dan mcgowan, scot fighting only his 2nd head contact fight against young dans exp came up short but acquitted himself very well in the 1st 3 rnds. might have been a step to far just now for scoosh but still very proud of him
nxt on was Corey McLachlan against Kian form wigan, corey started strong and continued on from the last showing against tommy green. he won every round of the fight by landing clean knees and kicks through out the fight. some good turns in the clinch too, Kian fought well and made it a challenge for corey but corey wins his 1st british title
Last up was wee Caitlin Faulds who fought Michelle Page from gainsborough. both ladies showing good skills with michelle opening with punches and caitlin countering well with clean kicks to the body, the fight continued on in much the same manner. Caitlin winning the celtic title :D
Brilliant write up & very gracious in victory & defeat..
The Scots came back stronger this time & it was expected they went home done there homework & won fights & titles..
Once again as the first show I cannot thank my event team enough a brilliant job by all ,
A special thanks goes to the judges & refs ,these fellas are at the top of the game & know and understand Muaythai better then anybody .In my opinion this is because they have been there won it & bought the T - Shirt & they have been advised and taught by the best Mr Tony Myres..
After nearly 200 fights we have had a handfull of contentious decisions , I try & watch every fight and on saturday I myself questioned 2 fight results even asking Jompop the ref for his opinion..
After an explanationIam more than happy with the results when 3 out of 4 officials give you the same answers within minutes of the fight ending thats good enough for me.
I honestly think there are alot of gyms / instructers that dont understand correct muay thai scoring ..
One instucter quoted that his fella had "Boxed the other fellas head off " & still lost !!
What he forgot to mention was the other fellas lovely Clinch/Knees and brilliant kicks to the body & head thoughout the fight..
Perhaps we should have an online Q&A session on here and my officials can answer some of the points that came up !!
A couple of instructers were astounded that there fighters "won the first 3 rounds " ( of a 5 rounder ) and still got beat..
I've just choked on my tea pmsl just shows that sum people avnt got a jar of glue how can yu win a muay thai fight by boxing sum1s head off not unless yu ko them, sum of the juniors were just amazing tj Everett so clever McGowan and many more it was a pleasure to judge so much talent I was like a pig in sh*t ;-)
Keith, little Taylor was great, just kept gritting her teeth and trying to have it, threw some decent shots too.
Also little Ellie from Pauls B's gym, almost looked like a mismatch (same weight, different weight) the fight began & Ellie started showing her techniques and was constantly scoring.
Defo some great young talent on display. Gutted I had to get off before the evening show.
Pete, as I said to the camps in the junior rules meeting, watching a fight, cornering a fight & scoring a fight a totally different things but even then some people still dont seem to grasp the basic principles of scoring.
Chris Podesta thanks for those kind words regarding my fighter Jade I just hope I can keep her on the right path because she has tremendous power and strength for a young girl of 15yrs my legs are still sore from letting her warm up on me Saturday!!!
Cheers Paul, Ellie is improving with every fight and has a excellent knowledge of muay thai rules and scoring which helps her game 110%,
To answer your question Pete "how can sum1 win the first 3 rounds and lose a 5 round fight" to many people compare boxing/kickboxing scoring to muaythai and it's completly different it's like saying rugby and football are the same, muay thai is scored on the whole performance not each round it's like a five lap running race runner A wins the first 3 laps and then runner B shows hes the stronger runner in the later laps and crosses the line 1st, just bcos runner A won the first 3 laps it dusnt make him the winner and that's very similar to how thai is scored hope this helps it's about effect over work rate the legs/knees are the bigger stronger weapons so obviously there going to score more than hands/elbows but again it depends on the effect the shots have.
Just wanna say considering how much stress Pete must ave gone through these last 2 weeks after losing his father and the funeral being last Wednesday and still went on to produce a fantastic show, well done mate hope you and all the family are coping take care god bless x
Ha! ha! ha! nice one Liam I like that!, but yes Jade is very strong for her size and the reason why I'm walking around with a black eye at the moment!...lol

Hey Paul thanks for that, believe it or not it wasent my quote
"how can sum 1 win the first 3 rounds and lose a 5 round fight"
but that of two MUAY THAI INSTRUCTERS !!! Amazing hey lol
Firstly thanks to pete for having us on the show and the strain you must of been under with the loss of your dad. X.
Well done to all Wigan fighters was not the best day for us but thats the fight game some you win some you lose, will come back stronger. Kailan got through to the final of the 8 man after winning both his fights in the morning and faced TJ Everett from Eclipse in the final. Kailan new this was to be a tough fight and everbody knows TJ Everett Kailan had everthing to go for.
If i am honest i honestly believe kailan won the fight and thats not taking anyhting away from Tj both lads were brilliant and after speaking to a lot of other instructors on the day in fact them coming to me saying Kailan won that fight im sure certain people can understand my frustration, and i am talking fighers and instructors who have been in the game a long time. If my fighters lose they lose and we go away gracious in defeat as in victory as we always have done. TJ is a great fighter and i am sure these two fantastic lads will meet again. Kailan i am so proud of you and how you performed through out the day and even after how you were so proffesional and congratulated TJ.
We then had Kian fighting Corey from Eclipse this was to be a tough challenge for Kian With corey the more experianced fighter it was just to much for Kian Well done Corey, And Kian you gave it your all even coming back in the last two rounds as you did great determination and heart a true fighter proud of you.
We then had the adults on James Hawkesworth fighting Dan Church from Als Gym in Cornwall great fight from both lads but James winning on points decision.
Last was Gavin 11.30pm long day! very long day Gavin was fighting Colin Reeves from Evolution Gym Gavin started really well but then Colin started scoring well with the left body kick and also putting Gavin to the canvas a couple of times, well done Colin and am sure Gavin will come back stronger next time.
Great points Craig and thanks..
Kailan v Tj is a natural British title fight & should happen sometime soon over the longer period of 5 x 1.5 ..
Corey as I stated before the fight is prob the best in the uk at his natural weight , Kian is younger & naturaly a little lighter & I have no doubt be a British title holder in the near future..
The wigan gym is a credit to the standards muaythai sets , with both Kian & Kailan making a point of thanking us for putting them on the show ..
Wigan are welcome back any time & Iam sure the lads will be back stronger & better ( if thats poss )
i missed the final as i was getting the lads ready but the two finalists were clearly the strongest two in the tournament, with the Wigan lad being the strongest biggest lad and the scottish lad looking the most technical in the previous rounds, would love to see dvd
"Connor Butler (sasiprapa Liverpool) bt Joe Le Marie (Richie Gents) 49-47 49-47 49-47 Joe Le Marie was ahead until he was counted I think r3 or r4 then connor took over"
The count was towards the end of rnd 4, Joe got caught with a big mid-section kick that winded him a little and Connor then landed some massive punches. Joe recovered well but Connor then came on very strong in the 5th for a well deserved win. Was very happy with Joes performance though as Connor is a class act and Joe will learn a lot from the experience
thanks rich for the kind words, both boys were a class act and joe will deffo go far in the sport!!! he was most deffo a worthy opponent for connor and gave him a run for his money ;)connor is freakishly strong for his weight, he walks around at 34kg i had to feed him junk just to get an extra kilo on for the fight lol . joe done brillant to make 35kg if he walks around at 38 just goes to show how dedicated he is well done joe le maire, will deffo be hearing your name alot more m8 ;)
Can anyone fill in the gaps? I know some were rematched etc.

Picture above tells a great story...
Taylor Rae from Eclipse ( a celtic champ at her own weight ) stood in at very late on & gave away about 7kg & 3 foot just so Ria from peel didnt go home without a fight ..
Really great fight from both girls, Ria now defends her title on 24th sept in Birmingham against Kaye Crisp from Mungcorn in Essex..
Whos out there to challenge for Taylor Raes title at 29kg 11/12 yrs old
I am fighting on 9th oct and We have lads on yogi's show on oct 30th so I couldn't go for that and Glasgow is abit far, I think I seen another Celtic challenge show further on in November, is that possible?
