I train with Dave Jackson at Warrington Muay Thai and on Sunday 6th August this year we are putting on a charity event to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
It seems these days that almost everybody knows someone who is affected by cancer (3 of my friends lost one of their parents in the space of 6 days recently, all to cancer) and so Im hoping this event will get a lot of support, which in turn means we will raise a lot of money.
The event will be held at Dave's gym under the title 'Kick 4 Cancer Research' and will basically involve teams of 5 people in a race to complete a total of 4000 kicks in as short a time as possible (ie 800 kicks per person). The event should last for a few hours but there will be other things going on as well and prizes for the winners and runners up, along with a prize for whichever individual raises the most money. There will also be a raffle held and Im currently in the process of getting together some prizes that, thanks to the help of others, are already way more impressive than I thought I could ever manage so I would like to say a massive thanks to Rob Cox who has agreed to help me get some signed gloves and shorts from some of the fighters over in Thailand, and to Ole Laursen who has very generously offered one months free stay at his Legacy Gym in Ubon as a prize. Im still waiting to hear back from a few other people about further prizes so I will keep this thread updated.
There will be an equipment stall at the gym on the day, with all profits made from sales going to charity (courtesy of Fight-Shop.co.uk), along with any other ideas I can come up with between now and then to help raise more money !
Although this is the first time the event has been advertised I have managed to speak with a few people beforehand and would like to say a massive thanks to both Richard Smith of Bad Company gym in Leeds and Craig Brown of Wigan Thaiboxing who have both said that they will definitely enter a team. Huge thanks as well to Darren Phillips of GFC Bury, Sandy Holt at Bolton Thaiboxing and Tricia McKeary at Beastmasters as they have all said that they will do what they can to help as well.
If anyone would be interested in entering a team then could you please let me know asap so that I can start to get an idea of numbers. If you are interested then if you could email me your details to si@warrington-thaiboxing.com then I will send out a copy of the poster to put up in the gym, along with sponsor forms and further details of the day of the event.
All of the costs involved in setting up this event are to be met privately and no money will be taken out of the funds raised to cover these costs. 100% of monies raised will be going to Cancer Research UK.
The poster is ready to go but I don’t have a clue how to put it on Ax ! Dave has a copy so Im hoping he will put it up shortly.
I'm up for it!
Had good practice on the Children In Need charity event at Bad Co last year....let the competition begin!!!!! :)
Ok heres the poster, Si just e-mailed it to me so I thought I would post it faster than he could! Please feel free to copy it and distribute as you feel fit.
(Sandy...dont stick it on lampposts please)
Thanks to Mr C for agreeing to take part and to Nige who is clearly too lazy to take part and so would rather just donate some cash !!! Either way works for me, as long as we are raising money for the charity.
Just had an email from the editor of the Warrington Guardian to confirm that they will cover the event and will be sending a photographer down to the gym on the day.

This seems a great event and a subject close to my heart,I will organise a team and be in touch shortly Dave..............................and win!!!!!!!!!!And get all the prizes.Thaisoon Dean jay call me we gots work to do!
fancy making it a little more interesting???? :)
Yes Yes Yes what u got noi???
the bad co team are gonna do 4005 kicks....4000 on the pads and one each kicking your butt!!!! :)
But our butts will be sitting down enjoying a drink long before you have finished.
Rdouble...giving up half way though is not allowed :)
i can see where DJ's money is going!!!!
dont forget...us short-asses dont have to kick as far.... LOL
suppose we could get a low kick pad for rdouble as he wont be able to lift his leg past his belly! :)
whats the rules ? how many pads r u allowd?
is ti an independent pad holder or is the pad holder part of the team?
just out of curiosity.
best of luck to all involved.
suppose we will have to state some rules for quality of kicks....
how about....
minimum height - must be above pad-holders waist
Put the foot down in-between every kick (for the karate and kung-fu guys)
PS whats up with WESTWOOD????
Mouth writing cheques that your body cant cash???? LMAO
Seems to have gone rather quiet!!!!
nervous now, eh boyo!!!!! :))))
Pad holder will be part of the team but the person counting the kicks will not. One person per team kicking at a time, all kicks must be mid point kicks, no low kicks allowed (if anyone is daft enough to want to do 4000 high kicks then feel free !)
As Mr C has said the foot must return to the floor between kicks. There will be a demo on the day of the event so everyone knows what is required before we get started.
If I have to do the demo can everyone watch really really carefully as i dont want to have to demonstrate more than 3 kicks :)

I would just to say that I have just lost my father two weeks ago to this disease. We only found out 6 weeks ago that he had it, then there was nothing they could do.
I wish you all the best with the Fund Raiser and wish you 100% success, and I am behind you all the way. If there is anything or anyway we could have contributed from Aus, I would have.
Just do it i am so so sorry for your loss,we all know people who have come in contact with this evil horrible disease, some of us make it through(i was luck enough to do it twice)some of us dont.
I dont know you and didnt know your father but be sure if you need support from myself or any of the cancer community we are here..my email address is on my profile if you need me.
This is why the medical fraternity need funding....there is a preventative vacine out there and it will be found but research is expensive please help in any way you can.
Rich Weston
Just Do It... Been there and know where you are pal.
Buy some raffle tickets and if you win I will bring your prize with me and post it when I get there as I am coming to Australia for 3 weeks in October to help with the opening of my mates new gym in Perth
I guess thats what Lance Armstrong is on about in his book (Its Not About the Bike) about the Global Cancer Community.....
If we can raise awareness and raise more money, we can help fund the research to conquer this awful disease.
Good Luck today guys...I am Red Bull-ed up to the eyeballs and ready to blast out my kicks!!!!
Ok....Its Sunday....time to preach....
Ezekiel 25:17
The path of the rightous man is bisect on all side the inequities and the tyrany of evil men
Blessed is he,in the name of charity and good will, shepards the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truely his brothers keeper and the finder of lost children.
And I will strike down with great vengance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers and you will know my name is the lord when I lay my vengance upon thee!!!
Thaiboxing is the path
The rightous man is the Nak Muay
The evil man is Mr Cancer
Lets kick the Evil Mans Ass!!!!!!!!!!

BAD COMPANY WON EVERYTHING !!!!!
The ladies team won the race to 4000 kicks, closely followed by the mens team and Rich Cadden then proceeded to win almost every prize in the raffle !!
Every team put in a fantastic effort but the way in which Lisa Houghton-Smith managed her team (despite being heavily pregnant) made the difference and the lads at Bad Co now have to live with being beaten by the ladies !!
Big thanks to Mike Tobin and the lads from Nongkee for coming down, and to Rich Weston who made it all the way up from Birmingham. Rich actually joined one of the ladies teams which I didnt have a problem with, although when he asked me where he could get a matching sports bra and thong from I was a little bit worried !!
Thank you to all the Warrington lot who helped throughout the day but you will all have to be punished on Tuesday for failing to win the race - Im sure Budgie will see to that !!
Just want to say a massive thanks to everybody who bought raffle tickets or donated to the charity. There were about 7 or 8 winners who were not there today and so I will get your prizes sorted out asap, had a long day so need some time to relax now.
I can confirm that winners off AX though were Chalky, Phil Hardaker, Master Sken and Liam Robinson.
The main prizes of the free training in Thailand went to Stephen Meikle (Kaewsamrit) and Rich Cadden (Legacy Gym).
Im not sure at this stage how much we raised but I will get a better idea over the next week or two. I also have a load of photos from today so I will get them up asap.
Thanks to Dave J for all your help with this mate and to anyone else who helped that I may have forgotten about.
Last but by no means least a massive thank you to Rob Cox. We sold almost 500 raffle tickets meaning that the raffle alone has helped raise almost £1000 for Cancer Research, none of which would have been possible without the fantastic prizes that Rob sorted out for us - thanks mate.
Forgot to say a big thanks to Mr C for all of his help with the event - selling raffle tickets, sorting posters, arranging radio interviews and standing outside shops with his bucket raising money !
Cheers mate
FANTASTIC effort by you all! Well done everybody.I'm sorry i did'nt come along but bought the raffle tickets. It's a charity dear to my heart also,As i lost my dad and mum to this terrible disease.
I have never won anything in a raffle so I'm pleased.Thanks.
I'm a bit black and blue from yesterday's sparring session!
Cheers,
Chalky.
Its ok mate. Throughly enjoyed it (apart from coming 2nd, obviously!).
i think off the top of my head bad co raised in the region of £2200 + shrapnel from yesterdays collecting in town....I really hammered the shoppers in York!!! LOL
I am pleased the badco speculation paid of with the wins in the raffle, but I think we will need the sweet solice of victory in the raffle when Mrs Houghton-Smith starts taking the mickey next week! :)
Keep us updated with the grand total, and let the warm feeling of good karma wash over us all! :)
Look fwd to the photos.
Two minutes into the contest and the Bad Co boys are already feeling the strain !! No prizes for guessing who was the first bloke to take his top off - in fact I think Rich may have turned up topless !!
Magnificent effort everybody, really well done. Its great to win a prize in the raffle but not nearly as good as seeing just how much money has been raised. Brilliant.
My god my legs hips, calf's, arse cheeks are all killing, worth it though. Was a good day, great to see so many people from the uk Muay Thai acene clubbing together for such a good cause, well done everyone.
AndyBC...Thanx for the massive sweaty hug at the end pal. I was gonna wash the tee shirt i had on but i decided to just throw it away x
The Winning team (Bad co. ladies bwwaaahahahaha) will each receive a trophy sometime this week.
This prize was kindly donated by Trophy Manufacturer Paul Sutton who can be contacted on 0121 384 5104
Mike Tobin played an ace card by bringing young Luke along for his team...that kid has stamina to die for...I think he did 2000 of their teams kicks.
and i love you too Dave, lol. Boo cant believe there getting a trophy, we was robbed i tell you, robbed, they had lisa counting for godsake, that lass can't do owt without cheating.lol. No we are not sore losers,he,he. In fairness well done to the girls they were wicked and deserved it. everyone who competed was wicked in fact, just for the fact that everyone finished. I was most impressed with Budgie's kids team, 5 lads no older than about 13yrs old doing 4000 kicks and they finished em in about 50mins thats awesome, so congrats to Dave and Budgie for teaching them so well. Again it was a really good day, had a right laugh even though all Mr Jackson did all day was abuse me, you bald poof jacko, lol
I did not spend all day abusing you...I also kept going next door to the All Ladies Gym who co-sponsored the Wire FM road show with us to check that they were all ok ;)
I will also have you know that Lisa grassed on you guys for cheating! She spotted the dubious padholder changes and promptly reported it to the correct authorites (me)... As a punisment for this offence Richard Weston was added to your team to slow you down.
well i suppose all that i get i deserve after the trouble i give you guys!
realy though it was good to meet you all face to face and not over the net,i was sorry not to bring a full team but was happy to help where i could and was impressed with all the teams,Dave and Si you did a great thing today raising money for a good cause takes a hell of a lot of organising and you did a great job.
Dave you never told me where i could get that thong/sports bra combo?
Oh and i wana trophy because "my " team won
And yea cadden had his shirt off in the carpark before the event.
No she was lying mate, we had a new person putting pads on while someone finished there turn and waited till they finished before new pad holder started (well most of the time anyway.lol.) and that bloody westwood went on the girls team (appropriate really,ha,ha) and helped them. Where never going to live this down and you no it mate, Lisa will still be talking of this when she's 80, you no what she's like.lol, Was a good day though mate, well done to you all for managing to get it organised, your a star. Nxt time can we just do 400 kicks though?? Im still fooked.
Plus the gal i was with said you were good looking rich which pissed me off then when i asked how old she thought you were she said ............36/37 result get in there!big grin on my face he he he he !
HA'HA yes westwood i love it, Rich reckons that he went out last week and someone said he looked 25??????????????????????????????????? Now that i can not believe can you??? What he failed to tell me was it was a blind person who he asked.lol. Good to see you again Westwood, even though you helped our bloody girls win.
She was being nice to him :)
Tell ya it was funny i went from pissed off to thrilled in seconds!I bet its gonna be hell in that gym the next couple of months! But iwas just helping out.......funny how i was drawn to an all girls team he he!Tell you what i couldnt concentrate properly though cus i recon one of them was "giving me the eye"
lol at Westwood..go for it boy!
i bet that was lisa mate, she's always at it. must be the pregnancy thats doing it.lol
Well done!!!! excellent job, you are all winners in my book!
And this is how i ended up after this wonderful event,LOL. Now whose idea was it to do 4000 bastard kicks then??? Look at what you did to me??lol.
LOL well done everyone absolutely class.......cadden is a right lucky twat. my dad best have won me some shorts.
I reckon he has won something mate, fook knows what? There was a fair few people from our gym who's numbers came out so lets just wait and see. My legs are destroyed all over the place today and i gotta go to work in 10mins??? Thanks Mr Jackson, lol.
Andy, Mr C and Mr Smith decided that while they were waiting their turn to kick they would do a quick rendition of the timewarp !!
The Bad Co ladies team on their way to victory.
At the edge of the picture you can just see Dave stood their chatting while everyone else is working hard !
One of the Warrington teams on the right and Mike Tobin and the Nongkee boys on the left
The Bad Co teams in action (and Dave wondering around chatting)
Budgie and the kids team - Budgie grew a beard especially for the event just so people could tell him apart from the kids !!
ha ha ha!!!
our timing is a little out...we had our hands on our hips BEFORE taking a step to to the riiiiiight!!!!
good one!
just like to add...my legs are destroyed today too!!!
calfs and hip flexors all the way!!!!!
all for a good cause though... :)
Andy yea Lisa was off with her"roving eye" again but thats obvious no no it was another member of the team who had the hots for me!(i recon)
Congratulations guys you're all a credit to our sport - looked like a great day. Good to see so many people taking part for such a good cause. I bought £20 worth of raffle tickets - really wanted Bovys shorts :( Looks like I've been pipped by someone!
There must be some sore people about today - well done to Dave and Si for organising it all.
let it be known!!
if someone doesn't particularly want some of the prizes, they could be put up for bidding on ax, reserve price and all....
whaddayathink?
money to go to the charity of course....
I realy realy love the shorts i won but yea if you want to set it up i will sell them ,all for a good cause.
I won NongO's shorts lumpinee champion and sports writers boxer of the year 06.
This could get interesting and could be a good way to raise a bit more money for the charity.
Any starting bids ??
(noi666 - get Pajonsuk's shorts up for auction mate - I WANT THEM !!!!)
westwood get your ass down rugeley 2nite wack ur nongO shorts on and ill knee you all over in my Nopparat ones lol
I was thinking over very similar lines.
I would though, like to try the shorts on that I have won as being there is 90ibs weight difference between myself and Sakadpetch, I think it could be a photo opportunity not to be missed and when shown on AX may offer a humorous respite to those affected by the nasty C word (Oh and I am more Johnny Vegas build than Christian Di Paolo).
Erm yea i.........got them on last night...not pretty.
I think every AX member who has won some shorts should submit a picture of themselves to AX, wearing said attire.
i was walking round the house in mine last night....
just the shorts...nothing else! lol
my gf and the neigbours must think I am a right whacko
me in medium shorts aint pretty aint pretty at all
Who won the signed Anuwat Shorts?? The red ones.....I would happily bid for them.
Well done to everyone!! Top effort!!
FB'Slim
FB'Slim - Chalky won the signed Anuwat shorts
there was still a pair of anuat shorts up for grabs yesterday but i had to pick the nopparat ones, theres not many pairs of shorts ever worn by boxers who have beaten saenchai!! ill get a pick on, westwood u fat nack give them 2 dean they will fit him, ill get you a nice pair of no fear ones with the american flag on and kick down one side and boxing down the other, actually ill go the whole hog and get Ajarn Rick across the bottom aswel
I'ld be interested in the Bovy ones or the NongO ones - I'm a Medium so they should fit :)
And Rich's training in Ubon aint it - wouldnt mind that - I'm in Thailand for a year soon so could fit it in ;)

dont know if moderators want to move this to another thread??
is there a pic with them of him signing them or wateva?
There was definately a pic with the shorts, cant remember whether it was him signing them or a fight pic but Westlife will be able to tell you.
I have set up another thread for any bids for the raffle prizes that people are willing to auction.
The winning team !
Sorry it took me so long to put this picture up, I was trying to work out what the lads were smiling about - didnt you all just get beaten by the ladies ??
The first of the Warrington teams to finish - about bloody time lads !
Mike Tobin's team (sorry for the crap photo lads - could have done with some help from Beanie baby!)
Team of the day for me - Budgie and the kids (they are not all his kids by the way !)
The longer the event went on the lower Frank's shorts got - Im just glad we werent doing 5000 kicks !
Thank you to everyone for taking part in this event. It was a great day and Im hoping we will have raised a lot of money for a fantastic cause.
I will post the final total on here as soon as I know it but that may take a week or two.
In the meantime check out the charity auction thread and get bidding !!
Nice pics. Also good to see Mr C has some tan competition in the gym.
See how sarah possitioned herself next to me on the picture........for gods sake what a stalker!
It was a good day!!! Knackering and hard work but it all paid off for us Bad Co Boy Beaters!!!!! Come on the Girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Smugness is not an attractive female quality!
It was a great day - congratulations to everyone who took part and to Simon and Dave for organising it.
I thought I'd got away with it yesterday, my legs weren't too bad but they seized up last night and I've been in agony today! Charlotte says she's walking downstairs like shes got calipers on and Greg said he has to use his hands to swing his legs in and out the car! Walking downstairs seems to be worst today!
I like smugness in a girl.....go for it ladies!! xx
There were 2 ladies on the day that need a special thank you.
Lisa H-S for a heroic effort at 7 months pregnant and one of the girls on one of our teams who I wont name but will tell you she she is just short of 50 yrs old and did her first interclub last month. (doesnt look a day over 30 either)
pic to follow, shorts are big on me westwood u must have really packed on the pounds
Ask anybody who was at the kicking event if i looked pariticulary heavy dickfeet get your facts straight
as requested turkey thumbs
Shorts look quality mate - pity the top ruins the picture !!
he could have fought in the blue corner so it matched, and no im not putting on my 1995 away shirt in red rdouble
You could have worn a Wales shirt in memory of Craig Bellamy, or an Aussie one in memory of Lucas Neill.
Looking a bit heavy?
normaly love getting the top off
pajunsuk bad-boys!
too many shufflers on here rdouble cant get the nips out! funny how last season everyone hated bellamy hey ho, leeds vs scunthorpe at the weekend is it?
cadden you wore them to bed and just got up for that photo didnt u! bet uv been clubbing in them
Nope Crystal Palace. The Championship is the league to be in, everybody knows that.
Think my shorts have arrived today, will have to see when I get home. Wonder if I will be able to get them on or not?
I havent had 'em off since i won 'em!
got some strange looks at work.... tried to customise it with shirt tie and pinstripe jacket, but i didnt quite pull it off! :)
Got a phone call from Stevie Nisbett today.
He will be holding a raffle on his interclub next weekend and the proceeds will go to this cause.
Nice one Stevie and thanx x
Stevie, sent you an email mate.
Sorry for taking so long to post on this thread again but its taken quite a while to get the money in, which is understandable really as a lot of people have been away on holiday.
Anyway, I have today sent Cancer Research UK £3500 but am still waiting on another £500 in sponsor money to come in. On top of that quite a few people have sent their money direct to the charity and so I think the final total raised is round about the £4500 mark which is a fantastic amount.
Thanks again to everybody who took part/donated/bought raffle tickets/sponsored the teams, and again a big thanks to Dave J and Rob Cox for all of their help with the event.
We have decided to make this an annual event, although next years will be arranged so that it doesnt clash with the main weeks of peoples summer holidays as loads of people have said they wanted to join in the event but couldnt because they were away.
Obviously I cant ask Rob to produce the kind of prizes he did for this event every year and so Im already working on a few new ideas to try and make the event as good next time round.
Thanks again everyone
Si
Well done everybody, and especially to you Si for organising it. Great to see such worthy cause benefitting.
A BIG WELL DONE! to all, especially Simon! A very very worthy cause.
Keep up the good work!
FB'Slim
Yeah Si you did great.
Just cos you did a good job doesnt mean i am gonna be nice to you in my best mans speech on Friday! ;)
