Pisand, I can offer you a Bruichladdich 21y.o. 2nd Edition, anything from Glenfiddich from 12-30yr old stopping at all points in between, a particularly nice 22yr old Bowmore or one or two other unusual drams I've accumulated. I think Guy's promised we can all nip round and destroy his house after the event :-)

Think I've got the match-ups as they stand on the webpage now... if anyone's got fighter fotos, web pages or club affiliations that I've missed, drop me a line.

Well done to Stevie, Guy and Marie (and all involved). WHAT A SHOW! Only got to see bits of each fight, coz of my own, but from what I did see WOW. The venue was excellent and the organisation was bang on. The promoters have raised the bar and set a new high standard, which will hopefully encourage and inspire future shows.

Thanks Yoda for all your hard work for myself, Stacey and John from GTBA. John Dick fought an amazing fight. He done us proud and is one hell of a fighter regardless of the result. Well done to all the fighters.

Scottish Muay Thai took a giant step forward last night, and was not found to be lacking in any department.

The Caledonian/Sit Nai organising team showed tenacity and foresight in putting together the highest profile event ever seen in Scotland. The night 'oozed' quality from start to finish. I salute you all!

The Scots :- Hearts like Lions, showed a wonderful combination of pride, skill and desire.

The English :- Polished and shrewd, unflustered and technically very clever.

The Americans :- 'Well up for it'. Hard working and respectful.

The Dutch :- Great team spirit, great performers, wonderfully colourful.

The MMA bout :- This was the best MMA bout I have ever seen. Electric!

Venue :- Quality venue, really enhanced the calibre of the show.

I agree Gor. I felt John Dick had won the first 3 rounds convincingly and thought the 4rth was close but felt john was busier. Jonathan done well to come back in the 5th but it was still close. Overall I felt John had won but that’s just one point off view.

I think Jonathan Watt is an excellent fighter but John seemed stronger and more determined on the night.

Regardless John was a great sport, and typical of John, he was more concerned about his performance than the decision and knew he had fought well.

Posted: 2005-06-19 08:29:44
Sorry guys but have to disagree. Johnathon definitely won the first round I would've gave John Dick 2 and 3 but Johnathon turned it in the 4th and by the 5th John Dick looked very tired and actually thought Johnathon was busier and his techniques were a lot more effective especially in clinch and his body kicks. Was close tho and I wasn't sure what way the judges would go but think the decision was fair and went to the right corner. Maybe a rematch on the way tho huh.

on another note we do have an appeal system and i am 100% sure mark hendry will watch the fight over again and if he has grounds for appeal i am sure he will use it.

however john and jonathan wot a tremendous fight a credit to clubs coaches and scottish muay thai

Well done both of you. Two burning music questions relating to this event.

1 Between two of the bouts, the DJ played 'Aisha' by Death in Vegas. (Iggy Pop vocal). It wasn't the Radio Edit, and I don't think it was the album version. Is there another mix, or was the DJ just being creative?
My future piece of mind depends on this information. Someone please!!! Ask the DJ and post an answer.

2 One of the Dutch boys, Ahmet Calk, entered the ring to the most amazing piece of music. Very Arabic sound. Want it! Need it! Must have it! What the heck was it? I know the Dutch are heading home on Monday. Can someone find out for me? Pleeeeeeeze!

Well done Marie, Guy and Stevie for putting on an excellent show. I didn’t get a chance to watch many of the fights (I was busier than a Baghdad builder) but I’m looking forward to watching the DVD. We're currently in the appeals process for John Dicks fight so I don’t want to make any public comments on the bout but if anyone wishes to discuss the matter privately please feel free to e-mail me.
LOL at Tiny Thai, you're probably right I should take a chill pill but in my defence Stacey and I have been living together for about a year, does that count?

I think there is a little blinkered vision goes on sometimes at these shows. It seems that fighters who are known to the people that comment on this forum generally get all the congrats and favour of their opinion on the out come of the fight.
There is a lot of talk bout the John Dick-Johnathon Watt decision but come on everyone was happy with the Michelle Ness-Loopy Lou decision? In my opinion that was a far greater poor decision than the Johnathon-John fight.
However I guess there will always be that bit contraversy at these shows.
I'm also one who doesn't really see the point in appeals in Thai Boxing. If u lost a fight everyone at the venue seen u lose and no appeal is gonna change that so in my opinion is get a rematch and prove u r better as that win will feel better than an overturned decision.
yoda
Posted: 2005-06-20 07:24:19
Kebab, to be fair I don’t think that apart from the Dutch fighters there were many fighters on the show who aren’t known to the people who regularly post on this forum.
Unfortunately I didn’t see the whole of the Michelle Ness/Loopy Lou fight, why do you think that decision was poor?
I agree with you that at most big shows there will be controversy, unfortunately.
The reason I’m appealing the decision is because I honestly and genuinely feel that it was in correct. When a fighter is looking to climb the rankings and get shots at bigger titles against more highly rated opposition their fight record can come into question for them to have an undeserved loss on their record could come back to haunt them. Also if you fought and felt you had won you’re National title it would be pretty hard to walk away and accept a bad decision. Also if a re-match was to be arranged instead what would be the motivation fro Jonathon to accept it?
I would also like to re-iterate that the decision to appeal is solely mine and not John Dick’s.
Going slightly off subject I would just like to publicly praise Mr Frank Watkins, the shows Referee for another top class display, a classic example of one of the sports un-sung heros.

Yoda! I have fought and had one or two decisions which I felt was wrong but after watching the videos I try to be impartial and try and look at it from the "Judges" perspective and usually come to the conclusion that I didn't win as clearly as I thought I did and the decision was close and one or two rounds coulda went either way. Also when I sit and think about it I also think how can 3 people at ringside who don't sit beside each other all come to the same conclusion if it isn't actually true. I also think that Johnathon would fight John again as he will have to be a defending Champion and I'm sure if John had won Johnathon would be asking for a rematch, would u knock it back?
Also the last fight I wasn't saying anything bout it b4 I read some of the comments on here bout the 2 John's fight and just couldn't see how that could be argued and the last fight couldn't. I was sitting with 3 other people involved in the sport and we all raised an eyebrow when we heard Michelle had won, congrats to her tho, as we all thought Louise had won 4 of the 5 rounds even tho she did only really box but is was extremly effective and she caught Michelle with alot of clean shots.
Anyway if u r appealing Mark without first watching the video I hope it all goes well for u and u give Johnathon a chance to win it back? And besides what will happen? Surely you can't just tell Johnathon he is no longer champ and John is? I dunno!

Is this a Gyweneth Paltrow teary eyed moment Stevie ;-P

It was an ace show. Apart from the hall looking like my old primary school but the acoustics, and its layout was great especially for holding fight nights.

Alot of effort must've went in especially bringing foriegners over so hope it all worked out for you three!!

We all (Fighting Fit) enjoyed the show, the fighters, cornerman and our supporters.

The only downside was that there was no drinking allowed in the hall, which led to alot of folk leaving and heading outside when their favourite wasn't on!

All in all a great show. By the way North Lanarkshire Council must have an astronomical heating bill - the place was roasting hot all night....lol

Stevie,

There were a two or maybe even three professional looking photographers there on Saturday, taking photos - funny enough!

Anyway is there anyway way we can get copies of the photos, especially the ones concerning anyone from Fighting Fit? Would be great if a CD was available with them all.

Let me know mate - cheers

Kebab, sorry about the delay in answering you, I’ve not been near a computer all week. I felt that John won the fight fair and square and that’s why I’m appealing the decision. I realise that if the decision is over turned it’ll be a hard one for Jonathon to take but if the appeal goes our way John’s 1st defence will be against Jonathon.
I can’t answer your part of the post about how 3 judges could be wrong as I don’t want to taint the appeal process but if you e-mail me I’ll be happy to explain my thinking in private.
If you won a title fight you would want to be recognised by your peers for your achievement, wouldn’t you? Do you think that a proud young man such as Jonathon would want to be credited for something that is not rightfully his? No, neither do I, that said the appeal might go Jonathon’s way in which case we’ll have to take the decision on the chin and move on.
Regardless of how the appeal goes I think much respect has to go both Jonathon and John, as Michelle said they were and are a credit to both Alan Ferns and myself respectively.

Hey Yoda, I think Johnatho is a proud good fighter and I'm sure he is more than happy and sure that he won the fight. U can generally gauge by the fighters reaction in the ring after a decision how the feel it went and Johnathon looked very happy with HIMSELF and John looked like a great sport and didn't see a moments doubt of unfairness on his face. I do realise that it is you that is appealing and not cause John wanted u too. I guess we'll just have to see what the outcome will be but fear that you may have left a foul taste in The Black Devils camp over this and any kind of rematch should the appeal go in Johnathon's favour may be hard to get as they won't exactly be looking to do you any favours where as if you asked for a rematch after the fight I'm sure they would've accepted.

Kebab, as I've previously posted I don't think it's right to discuss the ins and outs of the fight while the appeal is on going.
What I will say is who ever ends up being the STBA champion it will be The STBA who decides who the tile holder should fight based on a merit system. I'm not looking for favours if Jonathon wins the appeal we will challenge and if Jonathon declines he'll be stripped of the title and John will fight someone else for it. No big deal and no favours required.
If you require further clarification of the rules I would suggest you referenced the STBA's web site; www.scottishmuaythai.com
As for leaving a foul taste in the mouths of The Black Devils Camp, are you speaking as representative of Alan Ferns or is this your own opinion?
Kebab
Posted: 2005-06-25 17:18:28
Everything is just my own opinion Yoda and looking at STBA rankings I don't see John Dick there so don't see how Johnathon could be stripped for declining as I knows he has to defend it within 6 months but if John ain't first contender how he can be stripped I don't know. Anyway don't really wanna fall out with anyone over what is after all just my opinion but I just see the appeals thing as a bit of a farce and have never appealed in my fight career and never will.
stevie nisbet
Posted: 2005-06-26 03:13:40
the appeals proccess has been runing in scotland since 2001, as far as i know it has been used twice before, i have the dvd for the appeal and it will be handed over to 3 respected judges/refs who are out with scotland and have no allegiance to either camp. arguing over the appeal is a waste of time, and as far as the "assumptions" that you are making kebeb that yoda may have left a foul taste in the black devils mouths, then im afraid that alan fearns is a bigger man than to become emroiled in such bitchinness. as for a rematch, whoever wins the appeal will have to defend the title against whomever the stba pick within the next 6 months, not the coach. you may find that greame ness throughs his name back into the ring for it, (although i would rank him well above scottish title level).
therfore gentlemen
leave it in the hands of those who will make the descision

thank you

Kebab, for someone who seems to have such strong opinions on how an instructor should exercise his rights I find it rather strange that you haven’t bothered to fill in your profile.
Do you lack confidence in what you post? Or is just easier to take pot shots at people from behind a pseudonym?
I’m confident that the decision will be overturned and John (rightfully) will be declared Scottish Champion. If he doesn’t then we will challenge Jonathon for it. Stevie is quite correct in saying Graham Ness is currently the No1 at that weight division, but Graham has already told me that he wants to further his career by continuing to fight A class rules against international opponents and doesn’t want to contest domestic titles anymore.
If there is someone who is considered more worthy as a contender than John we will be happy to fight them otherwise Jonathon will have to face John in the ring again or be stripped of the title.
As for your decision not to appeal your previous fights, if after losing some fights I would suggest that your time could be spent more productively working to improve your fighting skills rather than trying (rather un-successfully) to talk down a quality fighter like John Dick. Your arguments make you sound like you have some sort of Thai Boxing version of penis envy.

Kebab, up to now I’ve replied to your posts in a friendly and helpful manner. I simply pointed out (in case you need reminded) that you have not filled in profile. I would view this as you (understandably) feeling un-confident about your what you post.
I have said numerous times that I didn’t want to comment on the John & Jonathon fight on a public forum, while the appeal is on-going, but I would be happy to discuss it privately by e-mail, if you feel so strongly e-mail me (my address is in my profile). I’ll be happy to discuss and explain my take on the fight and also allow you to put forward your views. If not no problem, we’ll agree to disagree on the matter.
If you feel that the appeals system is such a farce why not get off your backside and attend one of the numerous meetings that are held throughout the year and put forward a concise argument on why the appeal system should be scrapped? If you’re so confident that your way is the best way forward for Scottish Muay Thai stand up and let your voice be heard instead of sniping from behind a keyboard.
As for the dummy incident I wasn’t spitting it out I was simply trying to put it back in your mouth after your wee tantrum about leaving a bad taste in the mouths of your camp and how John want be able to ask for a rematch.

U need to relax Yoda and why would it leave a bad taste in my camp? I said Black Devils camp. I don't need to hide behind anything mate it's a forum u r meant to use it to discuss views. And for not being confident in my views I will again tell u againit was just my OPINION I don't need to be confident in an opinion mate. And once again u slate me and what not. We will just see what happens ok and leave it at that as u have taken everything I have said out of context and believe that u r so high and mighty blah blah blah. In fact unless it is posted on here how am I meant to know what the decision will be? If it doesn't affect me why would I be bothered, which comes back to what I said earlier, it was only an opinion not a fight towards your decision to appeal.

This was a truly well organised show. Such a pleasure to attend. My first visit in Scotland, and positively not my last.
The drama and theatre were so different from Thailand, but only added to my enjoyment. Your MC was sensational, and looked like James Bond, very distinguished.
Would like to see your fighters punch a little less, kick and knee a little more.
When Thai fighters come to Scotland, as I am sure they soon will, they will be too strong for you unless you adapt your style.
Also, a few fighters, probably inexperienced, rushing in too much in early rounds, and not saving themselves for the later point winning rounds.

Congratulations Scotland, you are working hard and are a credit to Muay Thai.

One question - There is no gambling in Scotland?

i'd love to buddy, but I've got no chance of getting any time off work for the rest of the year! So I would imagine it would be next year, especially if I'm in Thailand in Febuary/March again! Saying that, I'm considering a change in my career path, so I might end up with a lot of free time if I quit! LOL

I'm off to Thailand next Wed and I expect the trip will change my perspecitve on what I want to do, based on past experience! So I'm reluctant to commit to anything right now! Just going to stay open minded and then get focused when i come back!

We should be over together next March though.

Personally, would love to resign from the Uni and only focus on the muayThai...it's simply more fun, but don't think my wife would like the pauper's salary to go with it LOL.

October - NYC and trying to bring some Caley fighters and Guy over.
