Hey Guys,
Last night i picked up a copy of Alexio vs. Cikatic from the local movie/music store. It's the first time i've ever seen it, i've heard a lot about it, but never seen it... and let me tell you that it's the biggest load of shit i've ever seen in my life. The rules for the fight were so gay, i cant believe it. You were allowed to knee, but not with your hands clinched behind the opponents head? what kind of shit is that? and then you have the referee taking points from cikatic like he's in alexio's pocket or something... To top it all off, the lame duck champ, alexio blatantly went after cikatic while the ref was keeping them apart... after seeing this fight, i can honestly say that alexio is a terrible sport with no respect for anyone, or no self respect. then on top of all that, you have all the announcers favoring alexio, guys like bob wall, and van damme... they tried to make him look like a god. i know that bob wall is in the alexio camp, but come on!!! he was making it look like cikatic was at fault, when clearly Alexio showed terrible sportsmanship. Even when the fight was over, in the post fight comments, alexio was crying like a baby, and saying that he won and cikatic "fucking quit" those were his exact words... TRULY UNBELIEVABLE at how this guy could call himself a champion. That's my story and i'm sticking to it!!!!!!
I liked the way they kept hyping up Cikatic as a great low kicker, when he sucks in that area. The B.S. footage before the Longinidas fight they show cracked me up too. I'm sure a primadona like Alexio whines about the ring, the catering, and the lighting no matter where he is. Doesn't give him an excuse to check a low kick wrong.
This tape is for sale on Ebay right now.
Guys, I think you must have seen a different fight than I saw or else your hatred of dennis is so strong you can't see straight. Dennis came out fast like he always does. He started to pick up the pace like he always does. Cikitic started to wilt. There are two blows that you can't see on the film because of poor camera work. You see Dennis start to kick the you see cikitics head fly by you see his head fly back again and both time the announcer go wooooo! I don't know what hit cikitic but he is obviously very hurt. When the ref breaks them Cik turns his back to Dennis and lays over the rope. Later when the controversy happens. The ref breaks them , then the ref signals fight, Cik tries to get a break by turning to complain to the ref and Dennis lets a punch fly. The ref tries to stop Dennis in mid punch but it is to late. Dennis does throw a punch and a kick after this both of which miss. But the punch that landed was legal. Dennis could not be expected to stop in mid punch. Yes Cik did turn to the ref but the ref had already signaled fight. Dennis should not have thrown the 2nd punch or the kick but they missed any way. Cikitic knew he was in deep sh** he tried to lay down and get Dennis disqualified. His corner Tom H immediately jumped in the ring. This should have been an immediate d.q. of cikitic. Cikitic is a god in Japan. But Don Wilson knocked him out and Dennis was well on his way to knocking him out. Guy get over your hatred and jealously of Dennis. Dennis 41 years old but he could still beat many K-1 stars if they fought him under full contact rules for 12 rounds. A few years ago he would have beaten most of them if not all of them. Yes they might beat Dennis under K-1 rules for 3 or 5 round.
It is a different game. Not better just different. I have worked the trained and worked the corner of a Dennis opponent. Believe me Dennis hits harder then anyone in in american kickboxing.
wow, anyone else...I'd like to get a clearer picture
The tape is also for sale on the yahoo! auction for $4.25. I just bought it.
Did you just do a search for Alexio or something?
FYI, you can visit
www.Ebay.com
or
Yahoo Auctions
and find the tape that he's talking about.
Just type in the word 'kickboxing' in the word search.
Kickshoot said it perfectly and why would anyone say the rules were gray or bad , they were the same as the K-1 but with no kneees to the head or clinch and everyone knew the rules before the fight. Maurice Smith, Kathy Long and Peter Cunningham all had bouts on the undercard and did not have any problems with the rules. Besides that Dennis is a FC Champ. so this was a much bigger change for him than it was for a Muay Thai Champ like Branko Cikatic. He just felt Alexios power early and wanted no more. Any fighter that turns his back on another and starts talking when the Ref has clearly orderd the fight to continue is just looking for a way to quit.
This card happened March 1992 on PPV a year before the first K-1 (which Cikatic won) so no one can say Dennis took a soft touch that night.
I can't wait to see this fight
Interesting thought Scott...
In '92, Alexio fought Cikatic...and won controversially by a KO (or TKO?).
In '93, Cikatic won the K-1 Grand Prix tournament...Knocking out Ernesto Hoost in the finals...who knocked out Maurice Smith earlier in the tournament. If you were the type of person that thinks...
Fighter A beats Fighter B...
Fighter C beats fighter A...
then Fighter C can beat Fighter B
Then you could conclude that Alexio could've beaten Maurice and Ernesto back then. Obviously it's not that simple...but it does indicate that Alexio was certainly no slouch back then. Obviously Cikatic's most useful weapon is his power in his hands...as shown in the 93 K-1 GP...and Alexio is a boxing-oriented fighter...mainly an inside boxing oriented fighter...so his hands did nullify Cikatic's biggest weapon. It's a style thing. Maybe Ernesto's leg kicks would've ripped up Alexio if he went into K-1 93 GP. Who knows.
Uh....the rules for that fight were made up BEFORE THE FIGHT. The rules they fought under were not the same rules the undercard bouts were under. Did you see one person wearing shin pads and one not in the other fights? no. There was a huge, long article in Black belt about it at the time. Go check it out at the library. Even a magazine that worships Bob Wall had a hard time sounding positive about that mess of a fight.
SEcond, Alexio hit Cikatic out of nowhere. Whether or not the ref had signalled the fighters (and I don't think he did though I haven't seen the fight in years) doesn't make a difference as Cikatic wasn't even turned to Alexio and talking to the ref. Alexio visually reached over the ref to punch Cikatic. Bitch move from a bitch fighter who then had the guts to whine bout it later.
Alexio was frustrated that Cikatic wasn't phased by any of his shots, and Alexio was clearly the better boxer but couldn't do a thing to him despite hitting him about 1,000x (His shots actually somewhat weak and patty against somebody who wasn't picked off the apple picking line). I'm sure it could've gone to an Alexio decision but the rules were screwy, against Cikatic a fight without knees is basically full contact because his low kicking is crap. Anybody who uses this fight as proof that Alexio is capabable under those rules is smoking some serious crack. Cikatic had the luck of knocking Hoost out with his freakishly hard right hand, but against everybody else he always looked like complete shit. Compare Stan's fights with Cikatic to Alexio's fight and tell me who the better guy is. Hoost would've ripped Alexio a new asshole under FC or K-1 style rules, don't make me laugh, and Aerts would send him home pissing blood either way.
i have to agree. hoost fought roufus twice under fc rules.losing the first one by dec.(although i hear it could have gone to hoost)and then by ko in the second. he looked very comfortable under these rules. and don't tell me alexio was a bigger puncher than rick. rick did well for himself in boxing, dennis didn't go very far in his boxing career.
aerts would head kick dennis to death, and it would be ugly. james warring ugly. dennis only being 5' 11,aerts wouldn't even have to try to get his leg up there.
i wouldn't say that dennis couldn't ko one of these two guys but it's very improbable.
I'd definitely say that Alexio was a bigger puncher than Rick. Rick was always more of a tricky fighter. He would do combinations on the way in...and then bounch out...and earlier in his career he would use a WHOLE lot of kicks in his attacks. Later on, he did more boxing, but he was not as power-oriented as Alexio. Instead, Rick was more of a busy boxer. Alexio always had a pretty thick frame...even for a light heavyweight, but especially as a heavy weight. He was somewhat short and had wide hips...which is really good for inside punching. NOT good for K-1, however, where knees are involved. I'd say Alexio's biggest "tool" in his fighting was that he would wear down the opponent with body shots. His Stamina won him a lot of fights. He used body punching more than most Kickboxers that I've seen. Again, this is something that he coulnd't get away with in K-1 rules.
Hoost vs Rick II...it's been a while since I've seen it, but I remember Rick winning by being the busier fighter and throwing many punching combinations throughout most of the fight. It was halfway through or later when Hoost's round kicks started to take their toll on Rick's arms, changing the fight. I also wonder if Rick's rumored case of diabetes had anything to do with that fight.
It's been even longer since I've seen Hoost vs Rick I...but I remember that Hoost wouldn't have won that fight. Rick was doing many many many flashy kicks to win over the judges and the crowd...and that frustrated Hoost...but still Hoost couldn't do anything about it. Hoost wasn't crafty enough to counter any of it to keep it from happening. In terms of damage, it was probably close...but Rick played to the crowd and judges.
rick told me he was dehyrdrated because he took diruetics to make weight. i would believe this because he was ripped. he had no answer for ernesto' rndhouse.
rick i still say is a more clever puncher and a harder puncher. rick dropped arthur williams who went on to become cruiserweight champ. the only other stoppage of williams that i know of was vasili jerov sp? and that was with body shots.
dennis is an overwhelming puncher with good conditioning. he wears guys out usually.
I never said that this fight showed how Dennis would do in K-1. I said Dennis would beat most if not all K-1 fighter in his prime under full contact rules. They would do much better under K-1 rules. You are right if Dennis were a perfect gentleman he would not have thrown that punch. But the punch was legal the ref signaled fight Branko tried to get the ref to give him a rest and Dennis threw the legal but not nice punch. Brankom laid down and tried to get the DQ he knew that was the only way he could win. Yes Dennis can be mean. That is one reason he was so tough. Stan just got a lucky kick in on Dennis. Dennis would crush Stan in Full contact. Stan is a real gentleman and a very nice guy but he is highly overated. He is not good unhder full contact rules.
If the punch was legal, why was the ref trying to stop Alexio in the middle of it? And then Dennis hept attacking and tried to kick Branko while he was down. Dennis didn't win that fight.
When it comes to Dennis, there is always an excuse to justify his negatives, it's what Dennis is known for. Branko, quit. Stan, lucky (or was it a hole in the mat, depends what the spin doctors are saying for now). Don Wilson, corruption or whatever the complaint was. The guy couldn't take one leg kick. Get over it guys, the man is a sore loser and a pathetic example of sportsmanship.
The punch was thrown after the ref signaled fight and before the ref tried to break them again. The punch was therfore legal. The kick and punch thrown afterward would not have been legal. They did not land. Tom Harnick entering the ring during the fight is however completely illegal anywhere under any rules. This should have been an immediate dq of Branko. Branko chose not to fight and hoped for a dq of Alexio. I believe the official ruling by the Las Vegas athletic commission was a no contest. Branko laid down. No one has accused Dennis of being a good sport. I merely said that you guys constantly belittle him. He is one of the best kickboxer the US has ever produced. He does not fight Muay Thai so you try to diminish his accomplishments. In his prime under full contact rules he would beat many of the K-1 champs in a 12 round fight. It is a different sport than K-1 or Muay Thai. I\'m not saying he could beat them in their rules.
and as i said before, i think a prime hoost or aerts takes dennis under any rules.
stan didn't throw a lucky kick, dennis chose an unlucky block.
and don't give me this crap about dennis being a full -contact fighter. he didn't fancy himself a full-contact fighter until after the leg break.
just listen to the interviews of the darrell henegan fight. if you don't have it i'll send it to ya.
dennis wanted leg kicks and was furious when henegan wouldn't fight under those rules.
alexio made his own bed with us leg kick types.
and who else did he beat other than cikatic? dick kimber? or how about jerry rhome? their names make me shiver with fear.
and stan and alexio's fight was basically a full contact fight. in the 80's they allowed fc matches with leg kicks. dennis fought many of these.
no knees were allowed and i believe it was 12 2 min. rnds.
Kirk if leg kicks were allowed then it was not a full contact fight. By definition a full contact fight has all kicks above the waist. yes
I understand in those days it was all called full contact karate just like it is all now called kickboxing. Do you honestly think Stan could have beaten Dennis if that block or kick hadn\'t occurred. Mo fought Stan. You know better.
I trained Elmore for his fight with Stan (although I did not go to australia with him). The fight was under full contact rules. Elmore won virtually every round. Stan could not touch Elmore. Even the Australian announcer were saying there is no way Stan won this fight. The aussie judges gave the dec to Stan. The Australian crowd was so upset that they demanded Stan give the title back. Stan being the great gentleman he is did the unheard of. He returned the belt to Elmore. Stan is much of a man . I have the greatest respect for him as a champion and a human being. However I do not think he could beat Dennis with out leg kicks. Yes Dennis did make a lot of remarks about him being the best leg kicker in the world. He found out he was wrong with Stan. \"I\" said he was one of the best full contact fighters in the world. Yes I know Aerts would be tough under any rules as would Hoost. Hoost has several full contact losses though. I saw him lose to Theriault on ESPN. I\'m pretty sure he lost the rematch. Rick Roufus handily beat him in their first match moving in and out. Playing the distance game. He even hit him with a 360 jump spin back kick in the face. The second fight roufus decided to stay close and use his boxing skills. This was a mistake. Hoost broke Rick\'s arm with a kick. He later knocked him out because Rick could not keep that arm up. I\'m not saying Dennis would beat these guys in K-1. I\'m just saying in full contact in his prime I believe Dennis could have beaten most of them. I also believe Dennis would beat Mo in full contact. I believe Mo would beat him with leg kicks.
Guys the above posts are just my opinion and since Dennis is well past his prime I understand we will never know. I am not trying to offend anyone. I just get sick of hearing all the Dennis bashing on this forum
Sounds about right to me...I could go for that point of view.
I think you are overrating Dennis by saying he could beat anyone with FC rules Kickshoot. I think would have had a CHANCE but it would be far from a foregone conclusion. Aerts would have had the weapons to beat Dennis under any rules. And we never would have found out because a) Dennis basically demands a small island for his purses and b) his crew offer peanuts to whoever they choose as an opponent. Plus Dennis would make his usual demands and make it a nightmare for everyone but himself.
Comparing Stan vs Mo to Dennis vs Mo...apples and oranges. Mo was better, period. Mo was the best heavyweight low kicker in the world at that point. Dennis talked a lot, but didn't deliver. The lucky kick excuse has worn thin. It's no-one's fault (although Dennis would whine about it) that he couldn't sustain one low kick. It's a pity it was so quick and everything, but Stan threw the kick to do damage, that's the point of throwing it. Many stoppages occur with low kicks, the fact it was so quick gives Dennis' people a loophole to make excuses. Saying "oh look, Mo beat Stan so Dennis would have"...completely different situations. They are not even close to being similar. Dennis couldn't take one low kick in that fight. Mo was a better fighter, I would like to hear someone who disagrees with that. Do you think Dennis would have beaten Mo? With low kicks I mean. I personally rate Mo well abover Dennis, who was a great fighter, but made his own bed with all the rubbish he talked and then it came back and slapped him in the face.
My opinion...with low kicks Stan beat Dennis and would have done it wether it was 6 seconds or 6 rounds. Same with Mo.
Stan vs Elmore...again, not a good comparison. Elmore was 6'5" and survival minded. It was Stan's 14th fight. 12 rounds of Elmore tapping Stan in the waist (and I literally mean tap!) vs Stan being the only one trying to make a fight of it. Stan vs Dennis would have been totally different had they fought FC. Mind you, you may be right in saying Dennis would have won! Stan's not FC, never claimed or wanted to be. Dennis claimed he was a bad ass leg kicker. When the metal detectors go off in airports because of the pins in his leg he will remember how wrong he was. Remember Wilson? He was no leg kicker, but he did a number on Alexio's legs.
One more point! Let's talk about Dennis own backyard, why couldn't he ever fight Mo? Mo sure called him out! I used to hear about that a lot. If Dennis had ever gotten over his paranoia about losing and taken the challenge, I would have respected him more win, lose or draw. It never happened, and I KNOW Mo isn't one to duck Dennis, just like we know how easy to get along with Dennis is.
Sorry, you answered the question about who you think would win between Mo and Dennis in your last post, didn't notice it.
it would be like a fighter saying i'm the best nhb fighter in the world after fighting nhb and submission fights and getting ko'd in a nhb fight and only wanting to fight submission after that.
dennis let his mouth over-ride his ass. don't let your mouth write a check your ass can't cash.
well guess what. i use to be a fan of dennis the menace.then i woke up.
i'm sorry if you don't like the bashing but these are our opinions and we're intitled to them.
had dennis said, i'm not that big on leg kicks but i'll give 'em a try and he failed no one would have cared, we would have respect for him. but it didn't happen that way.
i think dennis was fortunate enough to be in a sport with less than stellar opposition.
Incidentally, what was with those funky rules in the Cikatic fight? It was some "Muay Thai" title, but there was no clinching and kneeing to the head? Were you only allowed to throw a lead knee from a distance or something?! I hope the hardcore Muay Thai heads out there don't hear about that!! LOL!
I don't remember the bouts being called Muay Thai. Though it's been a while since I've seen it.
It was for the WMAC Muay Thai Title.
Like Hoost losing to Theriault when he was barely in his twenties and
green as hell is a good example of anything. Puh-lease. how about Alexio getting his ass kicked by Wilson and then spending his whole life whining about it wishing he wsa the one that got to star in 3:00 am HBO movies about karate instructors who get revenge on the mafia for killing his sensei.
And more excuses for beating Roufus? Wow. Somebody is clinging to Full contact. what? Do you promote the crap or something? Looked to me like Hoost thought he'd
make the Full contact rules blow up in Rick's face. it was a specific strategy that Hoost's team had *PLANNED OUT*. Keep throwing kick, afterkick, after kick, after kick until Rick got tired and take him out. that way Rick wouldn't be able to show boat like he did before. If you can only kick above the waist what's wrong with that? And I didn't hear anything about Rick's arm being broken.
and I'm not going to torture myself by digging through my tapes to find it, but I could have sworn that announcers were stating that it was an illegal shot until Bob Wall probably showed them a picture of their family and held a gun up to it.
And tom Hanrick was in the wrong for jumping int he ring? Wow. You are friggin' desperate. Pathetic is more like it.
sure Alexio was not a nice guy. Maybe that was one of his strenght's in the ring (I think it was more along the lines of having legally retarted opponents to pad his record with). But it's also why anybody who doesn't have their head lodged in in their ass can justify being mean while calling him on his bullshit, so deal with it.
I wish I could remember the fight Maurice had (I think it was on the undercard of Alexio/Cikatic) where he called Dennis out. Hilarious because it was totally out of character for Maurice and basically reminded me of Will Smith trying to be mean, but if Aleixo didn't respond to that then what would he have resonded to?
Damn Tim...
Do you drink much coffee?
Tom Harrinck was wrong to jump in the ring...that was grounds for disqualification under that sanctioning (I remember the discussion about it on the tape)...however, since the other issue with the sucker punch occured before that, I don't really think that was that was an issue.
I can't say that Alexio "got his ass kicked" by Wilson. That was an extremely close fight. Wilson was more effective with leg kicks and it countered Alexio's forward moving, inside fighting style.
And I believe that Hoost winning over Rick Roufus in the second fight had more to do with Rick doing something wrong than Hoost doing something right. I Didn't see Rick doing much show boating like he did in the first fight. He did like 90% Boxing combos and very little in-and-out movement like in the first fight.
Tim... massage therapy, yoga, excercise...these things help reduce stress and tension. Just FYI.
This is for kickshoot. You say you trained Elmore for the Longinidis fight back in 1990? Just tell me was it frustrating just to watch him? He would have to be one of the most annoying, boring, baby taping fighters I have ever seen. I paid $80 to go and see that fight. Stan tried to fight while that punk wasted my money, by running and TAPING like a typical full contact fighter! Man was I pissed. The only compensation I got was Stan winning and Elmore wingeing, because he claimed he won, what a joke! You do not win a fight like that, no guts no glory pal! One more thing Stan did not give back the title to Elmore he relinquished it! It was in a freeze state and a rematch was demanded by Stan himself! Elmore wanted more money, so the promoter said forget it! Nothing was heard from Elmore again and the aussie public judged Elmore the wimp, because they were so desperate to see the loud mouth come again for a real bashing if not by Stan, then the crowd themselves! BTW...I HATE FULL CONTACT! I would only watch Stan and Alexio!
"how about Alexio getting his ass kicked by Wilson and then spending his whole life whining about it wishing he wsa the one that got to star in 3:00 am HBO movies about karate instructors who get revenge on the mafia for killing his sensei."
LOL, I like that one because it sounds true. I remember when Dennis was down here for his fight with Stan and he was on a local talk show and when he was asked about his role in the movie Kickboxer, he started to get all upset and start whining about how he was supposed to be playing Van Damme's part and how he he was the world champion and shouldn't have to lose a fight on screen and that it was an insult to be shown leaving the ring on a stretcher...I'm not kidding, this is true!! I remember seeing it at the time and thinking there was something wrong with the guy. Irony of the whole situation was two nights later he left the ring on a stretcher!! LOL!
Tim brings up good points. Using Hoost vs Theriault as an example of why Alexio could beat Hoost in FC?!?! Geez, that fight was 14 years ago when Hoost was a NOVICE MIDDLEWEIGHT (looked kinda frail too) who showed not even one trillionth of the fighter he would become!
You guys make some good points. I agree with many of them. I don\\\'t believe the logic that if a beats b, and b beats c, then a could beat c. I\\\' m just trying to make the point that full contact and leg kick fights are very different sports. I\\\'m just saying that because you are the best at one , you are not necessarily the best at the other. Case in point: Hoost (along with Aerts) has proven to be the best in K-1. I\\\'m only saying that it has been proven he can be beaten in full contact. Yes the first Theriault fight was a long time ago. The rematch was a little more recent. The roufus fight was not that long ago, and in the first fight roufus handily out pointed him. It was not that close. The second fight Roufus got over confident in his boxing skills and stayed to close. Otherwise he may have won that one too. I agree Aerts is a tough fight for anyone under any rules. His power would definitely give Alexio trouble in full contact. (though I think Dennis has the better chin). As for the Stan - Elmore fight comparison. I\\\'m just making the point that Stan is not a very good full contact fighter. He has a wicked left hook and good leg kicks. In full contact he has only a good left hook. AS for all your comments about Elmore. Elmore is one of the smartest fighters I have ever seen. I was his sparring partner for years before I trained him. He is very deceiving. It looks like he is not kicking hard, it looks like he is slow, it looks like he can\\\'t punch hard. But in the ring you find out differently. I have the tape of the Stan - Elmore fight. I bet i could count the kicks and punches Stan landed in that fight on my fingers. And as you said Elmore kicked him over and over and over and over again for 12 rounds. This fight was not even close. I f you mean Stan made the fight by walking forward getting hit than you are right. I have great respect for Stan as a person and a leg kick Champion but he is not a full contact champ. I went with Elmore to Hawaii when he fought Alexio. Granted this was a different Elmore. Elmore was much older than in the Stan fight. Elmore hadn\\\'t had a fight in 5 years. We really only had about 3 weeks to train before we left for Hawaii. (the same amount of time we had before Elmore left to fight Stan). But Alexio won almost every round. Alexio knocked \\\"Amp\\\" out with 8 seconds left in the 12th round. Dennis hit Amp with the hardest left hook I have ever seen in kickboxing. Amp has a great chin and tremendous determination but he was unconcious before he hit the ground. After the Stan fight amp told me he didn\\\'t think Stan really hit that hard. (of course Stan never really hit him). After the Alexio fight my fighter spent the night in the hospitol for observation. I think I have some serious evidence to back up my opinions. I am a big fan of Mo and Kirk. I think they are the best leg kick fighter and trainer in the U.S. But Kirk told me Mo has never had a full contact fight. They are different sports. That is why I say Dennis would beat Mo in full contact. I think Mo would smoke Dennis with leg kicks. AS for the Alexio Wilson fight. The fight was very close. Wilson had, had flu the days before, Alexio had to lose a lot of weight. It was very early in Dennis\\\' career. Dennis was penalized several points for not getting his kicks in. And you are right Wilson is not really a great leg kicker. He is just a very smart fighter who finds a way to win. I agree Dennis stuck his foot in his moutn when he said he was the best leg kicker. Stan showed him he was not. I simply said Dennis is one of the best full contact fighter we have produced and he deserves respect you guys do not give him.
I agree Stan vs. Elmore wasn`t the most exciting fight, but that was Stans fault because HE couln`t do ANYTHING. We all know Stan is a great fighter and can walk through and clobber a guy who is just tapping him, so that just proves that Elmore had a lot of power behind those taps. The botttom line is he was totally out classed by Elmore under FC fules, and Dennis Alexio outclassed Anthony Elmore when admittedly both were old men.
I just found my tape and Alexio vs Cikatic was not for a Muay Thai but for the newly formed WMAC (world martial arts challenge) Heavyweight title. I had earlyer said it was 5 x 3min but that was only the womens match, the men fought 8 x 3min rounds with foot pads being up to each fighter to wear or not. Mo Smith, and Peter Cunninghams fights on the under card were also under the exact same rules.
Mo vs Don Wilson was an FC fight. Mo was a young kid back then, lost a boring decision.
I agree Stan's not a FC fighter completely. Why would he want to be? LOL!
But if Elmore didn't think Stan hit hard, then why was he so absolutely petrified whenever Stan got near him? Don't tell me he wasn't, because it was almost comical how he reacted when he got clubbed.
Scott...Alexio-Cikatic was for the WMAC Muay Thai title. That's the name of the title. For all we know it was probably invented only for that fight. You can even hear one of the commentators going on about how great Alexio is for fighting for the "Muay Thai Championship of the World".
BTW Kickshoot, Stan's hand skills are one of his main assets. He has a lot more than one punch. You respect Mo Smith as you say, ask Mo what he thinks of Stan's hands and power.
Alexio vs Stan under FC...intriguing fight and Dennis' best chance to win. But Dennis is same height as Stan (or a fraction taller) and not a chicken shit sort of fighter like Elmore. They would trade. Stan would have had just as much chance as Dennis of bombing him out with hands. Darrel Hennigan was smacking Dennis around, Lowell Nash nearly took his head off and Srtan can actually box as opposed to those guys. Mind you, I wouldn't bet on the fight, because if hands didn't come into it, Dennis has the FC style down and could out kick Stan. Elmore and Dennis... Different styles of fighter, different situations. Comparing a scared Elmore to Dennis is a different ball game.
For the record, I spoke with one of the judges of the Elmore-Stan fight and he wasn't sold on Elmore tap kicks and the fact that Elmore's reactions whenever Stan hit him or tried to rush him gave a bad impression. Thay 70's USA tapping game looked out of place elsewhere. At least Dennis would show some balls under that grass skirt and fight.
Everytime Stan would go inside and land some shots, Elmore's eyes would pop out and look at the referee for help!! I remember saying to myself what the hell is he complaining about, fight damn it! He did fight like he was scared, and I can assure you judges in Australia give it to the aggressor!!
Mo vs Dennis FC rules...again, Dennis' best chance to win. For this one, Mo can't really compare hands with Dennis, but he could kick just as hard as Dennis and just as often for 12 rounds. Mind you, again, Dennis may well win, but then again, who knows??
Low kicks...Mo would probably have broken both legs, or just decided to break the left one so Dennis can have matching souvenirs. Then you old school FC backers would say "lucky kick". Or make a wild comparison like "Peter Aerts beat Mo not long ago with leg kicks so Dennis would have!!" Heh, heh! I'm a fan of Mo's from long ago, he's a true gentleman and a guy who deserves the accolades he received back in the day. He is the anti-Alexio of American kickboxing.
Oops, I mean Mo may have wanted to break the right one. My bad.
Strange how you guys think Cikatic is not a good low kicker!!??!! In Tom Harinks exact words "....Brankos legs are made of Stone!!"
I tell you this about Branko, his legs can take a ridiculous amount of abuse. They turn all shades of purple but he doesn't seem to mind!
precisely! Not a nice dude though!
Nickos, The fight was not said to be a Muay thai title, it was titled WMAC Heavyweight Kickboxing Championship. It was only called "Thai boxing like" because of the knees and leg kicks, which at that time was fairly new to USA viewers, the commentators said that Cikatic was the Muay Thai Champion which he has by another sanctioning body. Maybe at some point someone miss spoke during the fight but it was never sold as Muay Thai.
There was only one said Muay Thai fight on the card and that was the first one between - Rajadamnern Stadium Champion Rungrich O. Smith vs. Jacksing So. Ravadee it was the rubber match for the two Thailand fighters with Smith winning by KO in the 4th. (great match)
This was the one and only event for the WMAC (Promoter/sanstioning body) which put on a great show and had big plans for the future. The Mo Smith vs. Steve Kruwell match was billed as a title eliminator. Which means at there next show it would have been DENNIS ALEXIO vs. MAURICE SMITH !!! But just like the K-1 and Mass Destruction it failed on PPV and that was the end of that.
The only time kickboxing was a success on TV was back in the 80`s when the PKA was the highest rated weekly show on ESPN, but then they imploded when the owners Don and Judy Quine got caught in a major Cocaine sting. Now there are countless sanctioning bodies ,rules, weight classes and the public doesn`t know who the Champions are much less the contenders. The one lone exception is the Heavyweights in the K-1 rules format but the rest of the sport is imposable to follow which = no fan base. (exccept us die hard on the AX!)
Scott, you are always optimistic, I give you that!
That Alexio-Cikatic card was:
1)Another pay per view disaster
2)Full of mis-matched undercard bouts
3)contained an unsatisfactorily ending and controversial main event
I remember reading a US mag (I still have it here somewhere) at the time which went out of it's way to promote Bob Wall and his crew and even that mag found little positive to say about the event in particular the main bout!
Do you really believe Mo vs Dennis was on the drawing boards?
*Case in point: Hoost (along with Aerts) has proven to be the best in K-1. I\\\'m only saying that it has been proven he can be beaten in full contact. Yes the first Theriault fight was a long time ago. The rematch was a little more recent.*
FONTGRLMAO!!!!!!!!!!
yeah, the first fight was in 84 or 85, the 2nd one was in 86. I guess that is more recent...
*The roufus fight was not that long ago, and in the first fight roufus handily out pointed him. It was not that close.*
And those 2 fights were 2 years apart. Talk all you want about Rick's strategy, if you want you can say Hoost only beat him because he kicked him in the neck way harder than anybody else had too.
